Belichick remarks on Mayo's "soft" comments on Pat McAfee Show - "They're not soft"

His team started 1-5 last season then duplicated that to a 2-10 start. It's not that far off.
Good, we should applaud Mayo for breaking a record that Bill Belichick wasn't able to accomplish in 30 years of head coaching.

BB on Maye "He has done some good things: we'll see when things get a little more competitive." BB would have Never Drafted Maye @ #3. Stay on TV Bill it fits you perfectly.
I’m convinced Belichick would have taken McCarthy. Not that he didn’t like Maye; his draft night commentary showed positives but highlighted all the work he needs. Whereas he didn’t do that with McCarthy; it was virtually all positives.

Like I said he is a rookie head coach - and one with no experience who looks exactly like that right now. It's not a good start but I expect he'll get better. Otherwise it's out the door and time for the next guy.

He was 6-10 his first season in Cleveland.
Cool story.
So they're going 6-4 down the stretch is what you're saying. Based on their obvious incline in play since week 1.

Call pat Mcaffe and ask the HC. Just fire mayo and hire back bill that will solve everything!
Sure but Kraft screwed that up.

You’re the one asking, whether a defense was bad, soft, asleep, stupid, isn’t the issue. It’s their HC calling them out and saying the Xs and Os are fine.

He is essentially saying we are doing a fine job coaching but those soft ****ies we put out on the field are ****ing it all up.

I honestly can’t remember another HC calling his own team soft.

No experience? I thought he 'ran the defense' the last few years. Is that not true now?

Look, a lot of patriots staffers and ownership - mayo , kraft , wolf took shots at BB in the off season . Created a dynasty doc. Called blank to not give him the job. Now Bill is repaying it all back.
It was petty on both sides and its sad to see that instead of celebrating our longest tenured coach and greatest coach in SB history having such a relationship with the team and fans.

Not saying that at all.. I'm just saying let the season go on.. I'm just enjoying watching Drake play and acclimate.. I'm not going to try and defend mayo because it's pointless it's not going to change that he's the HC. I'm sorry to upset you.

There is nothing wrong with that comment.
The difference between qbs with pretty stars and winning QBs is how they play with the game on the line. Maye hasn’t been on that situation

Oh sure it was. One guy said literally nothing until he was paid to do so on TV months later, and one guy made an entire-ass documentary that may as well have included a 'For Your Hall of Fame Consideration' watermark on the entire thing.

Clearly, these two things are exactly the same.

I think Singletary did something somewhat comparable but it can't be a common approach.

"Can't win with them"

I don't believe I said he did. Regardless he needs to be better as does every other area of the team.

And when paid to do so on tv he held his tongue until the new HC threw players who had played hard for him under the bus

Wasn’t that directed at one player? The TE? Davis?

Edit: it was. It was directly a response to why he kicked Vernon Davis out of practice

His opinion on the Patriots means nothing more than McAfee's now. He's an outsider.

Wish we had coaches like they had then!
I'd happily take BB, Weis and Crennel from 2003 back today. Also the QB but that goes without saying.

Too bad all we have is the 2024 BB who thinks hiring his buddies who are out of their element to run his offense was a recipe for success...
