Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

There was never any smoke, never mind fire between the two. White knew Jaylen wasn't taking a shot at him, and knows that JB is a better overall player and a top 15 guy at worst in the NBA. Brown knows just how good White is as a teammate and a guard for this team.

They are fine.
Agree to disagree. Don’t want to turn this into a negative on either of them. Glad they’re gelling well.

Happy the regular season is right around the corner to take my mind off the Pats.

No one wanted to trade Tatum. If they did they are insane.
I was about as negative as they get about Tatum. I even started a thread calling him overrated (which was an opinion I soon retracted). At that time I liked Brown more but I never in a million years wanted Tatum to be traded and I don't remember much of that kind of talk.

I could find receipts from a Cs forum I was banned from because I was one of the only people who didn't want to trade Tatum for Davis. Or George etc. Every off season all they could talk about would be trading Tatum or Brown.

In fact, there is a small time Cs reporter from there who posted "Trade Tatum, trade Brown, I don't care...just do something!".

My guess that loser was one of those who was dancing around when they won the title.

Watching Starting5 on Netflix. In season documentary following Tatum, LeBron, Edwards, Butler, Sabonis.

The show is absolutely ruined by LeBron hogging like 80% of the show. This guy’s level of cringe knows no bounds. Such a self-absorbed clown trying to convince everyone he’s a good, normal guy but unable to stop boasting about his accomplishments and pitching himself as the GOAT (lol). What a ****in tool.

The other guys all have some good, but very concise stories.

Tatum’s natural humility is very under appreciated and one reason the Celtics can have a ceiling the Lakers / former Cavs can’t.

Someone on Reddit had a great take on Edwards. One of these guys who is brash, ****y, and beloved until suddenly one day overnight he becomes known a bad teammate and diva. Sounds about right. In a few years, his behavior will go from being seen as fresh, youthful and cool to arrogant, exhausting and toxic.

Butler is interesting guy…never disliked him. Great player even if he’s not really a generational talent. He’s very smart though and his philosophical take on life and basketball is a big plus for the show.

Sabonis’s wife is fairly hot (but not that hot.) He’s as boring af as you’d expect when watching him interact on the court.

Looks OK. Tall guys with big feet need a wife with a big mouth which limits the options.
From what I’ve read, height and foot size actually have no correlation with unit size. That’s bad news if you’re 7’0”. The proportional perception is gonna make it look micro.

Haven’t watched it yet but saw this. Man, you gotta get Russell in there

One big glaring weakness in Barack's 5 is lack of size up front. I love Akeem, but Durant at power forward?
I can think of a ton of different power forward/ center combos that would abuse those guys.
And if you gonna go Durant, Bird is a superior choice. Bird was a ?great rebounder, Durant not.
Outside shooting about the same, but overall scoring? Not close. Bird could destroy you off the dribble, inside, outside,
and the best passing player at 6'9"" or above in league history.( lone exception is Maguc, but he was a pg. And Bird was not far behind Magic in passing either)
Obama's 5 would be entertaining, no question.
But I could put out a few lineups that would beat them regularly.

Obama is looking at the roster in today's NBA which is essentially positionless basketball and without defense.

Steph is 1-2
MJ is 1-2-3
LB-1-2-3-4
KD- 2-3-4-5
Dream 4-5

Hell, I'd even take 2 players from today, Jokic and Giannis. They would help destroy his team.

Too many on-ball scorers on Obama's list. There's only one ball. LeBron immediately puts everyone else in a box.

An all-time starting 5 would need at least one, if not two, of the very best complementary players who can add spacing, defense, ball distribution, etc. Curry isn't a terrible pick because of the spacing he provides. Olajuwon isn't a bad pick either. I like guys like Bird, Magic, Russell, Duncan, and Pippen for a lineup like this. I agree that Jokic and and Stockton are also good.

Basically, there are a lot of great players so I can't really come up with this list without mental agony, so I'll just leave it at my suspicion that, if you actually created the greatest team possible in real life and had them face off, it's very possible the best team might have some Draymond Green / Jrue Holiday / Ben Wallace / Dennis Rodman type of impact guy. Putting five legendary offensive players in the same lineup is often diminishing returns.
