Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

The growth of this guy on the court is just incredible.
Jaylen went from a super athletic dude who often played dumb basketball to a
super athletic dude who has become a very smart, savvy and unselfish player.
And yes, that puts him among the best players on the planet. Im very impressed.

Celtics first preseason game (vs Denver in Abu Dhabi) is beginning now.

Tatum’s new shooting motion looks good so far. No more hitch, quicker release. 3/7 on threes in first half. Tiny sample size though and will take a long time to assess if it’s an improvement from his old form.

But with his old form, I thought a lot of the time, he’d have an open look and then his motion would force it into an imbalanced heave rather than a smooth stroke. It’s almost like he was a field goal kicker who prefers kicking from the hash mark instead of the center.

I think he’s improved his game by subtraction. Fewer negatives, letting the game come to him, trusting teammates and the flow of the game. Going 3/7 on higher percentage three pointers is so much better than going 4/13 and force chucking them. Unfortunately the ESPN sports culture rewards the latter over the former. In addition to resisting the bad three point shots, Brown is also doing better at recognizing doubles.

Brown would be one of the best players in the NBA if it were 2005. That’s not an insult to him. In the pre-3 point era where iso postups, athletic shot creation, midrange shooting, and slashing were at peak value, he would absolutely feast doing exactly what his natural athleticism compels him to do. He’s doing well now at finding a compromise where he can still do his thing while still adhering to emphasized modern basketball concepts of ball movement and spacing.

I have receipts from people on other forums and in real life that desperately wanted to trade Brown and or Tatum for the flavor of the day. Thats all you saw posted for years. I was adamant that you shouldn't and let them grow and I got crucified for it.

Wonder how happy those ass clowns were slapping each other on the backs saying "We did it".

He did work, and still does a ton in the offseason. I saw a lot to his game, and saw a better version of Jimmy Butler, whom many cried to trade him for. I think right now Butler and him are close but Brown is younger and pulls ahead a little bit.

Cs legit have 2 of the top 15 players in basketball on the same team. Thats pretty rare air and being so young is a good thing for the Celtics.

No one wanted to trade Tatum. If they did they are insane.

I don’t think they are that close anymore especially after last season. Jimmy is on the decline, Brown peaking.

Watched the 2nd half last night.
Davison played well on both sides of the ball.
He channeled his inner Derrick White on one play for a dynamite block.
Had some nice assists and can shoot the rock.

Thats gonna be the key. Can they get the draftees and young guys to play at a high level to keep the roster churning with young, above average talent. Brad seems to have a keen eye for high end diamond in the rough talents.

Yes, down the road they may need to make some tough decisions with all these big contracts. Having guys in the wings will be critical since they’re out of the FA market for a long time.

Game 2 of Celtics Nuggets.

In the set offense, White is being more assertive and creating more shots off the dribble. Tatum and Brown both being a lot more patient and not forcing. Wonder if this will carry over into the season.

This is all “on camera” stuff but still it’s hard to deny the camaraderie and chemistry with White and Brown with their body language and also their ability to find each other in the offense. They appear to be getting along even better than before if there were any legitimate concerns about this.

There was never any smoke, never mind fire between the two. White knew Jaylen wasn't taking a shot at him, and knows that JB is a better overall player and a top 15 guy at worst in the NBA. Brown knows just how good White is as a teammate and a guard for this team.

They are fine.
