Just Met Bill Parcells

He met him at the cobbler in between picking up a phosphate at the drugstore and meeting his sweetheart for a malt at the diner!
I can't put into words how much I love this comment

Edit: I have read this comment randomly about 10 times and have laughed like a lunatic everytime

Yeah I think the loss kept us out the playoffs
Adam Vinatieri was also pretty bad in 1999 missing at least 3 kicks that would've been game winners. That team could've been 10-6 at worst and 11-5 had they not blown the home game to Miami. Could've been even better had they not got embarrassed at home against the Jets on MNF, at Philly. They just weren't a good team.

They had some pieces but needed a coach to get rid of some of the riff raff and bring in some solid vets and a new young hot shot QB.

In an alternate universe, I think the Pats would've had a small window to either take out the Broncos or get back to the Super Bowl by 1999 had the band stayed together.

Some younger fans on here don't realize how loaded the late 90's Pats team was, but major injuries and poor management derailed those teams.
There's a lot of guys on that SB squad that ended up with rings here.

I read getting a shoe repaired and was like how did you just meet him in the 1950s? Weird
C'mon now, PatFans needs to keep up with the trends! Cobblers are back (sustainability/re-using stuff). [well, a little bit]

Will you guys stop bumming me out?

Without the foundation of players that Tuna drafted for the Pat's, I'm not sure if the Pat's still win the 2001 Super Bowl.
Not sure? Try no way in a million years.

Veterans. Experienced veterans. With playoff and Super Bowl experience. Guys we drafted.

The '01 Pats had Brady. He stayed in, they went deep.

The '88 Pats had Flutie. He got benched, they died.

We're going down the rabbit hole here, but so many thing had to line up in order for the Dynasty to occur. Had Bobby not righted his wrong and brought back BB as HC, there's no Rehbein and no Brady.

Had BB drafted fan and media favorite David Terrell, they don't win the Super Bow in 2001. They did have a lot of Parcells guys, but Richard Seymour was the catalyst of that defense.

And finally, had it not snowed in the divisional round, I think Oakland ends their season. Even Ernie Adams thought a miracle had occured when it snowed as he wasn't confident they were going to slow down the Raiders offense.

Spoken like a cowboy who loves his boots. My favorite motorcycle boots were purchased pre-Reagan, They've made their fair share of cobbler vsits. Old Bikers never die, we just wear out our soles

Remember that time you got mule kicked in the balls?

Let's not leave out the rest of the story. Sure APF got kicked in the balls but he and the mule kissed and made up, cause real men work out their livestock problems. That or they eat them, either way it's dealt with

Didn't he miss a key kick late in the year that kept them out of the postseason. Ultimately, speeding up Pete's firing. In turn, leading to Belichick? I think it might have been against KC.

My next general question to the board is why they felt the need to give a QB $100 million while he declined in 1999 and 2000. Each season seemed to be getting worse. Maybe they were afraid of the unknown. As it turnd out, MO Lewis took care of the "unknown" part for them.

Things have a way of working out. Over our history, the Patriots have had more than our share of good fortune and happy times. Local media, along with a lot of fans, just prefer to emphasize the negative.

Bob loves Drew. And attention. So, he went out of his way to make Drew the highest paid player in NFL history. Bill was okay with it because it freed up cap space.

But of course it was fundamentally silly. Paying a guy more money will not make him play better. Mo belongs in the Patriots Hall of Fame.

Neither will surrounding a guy with declining talent make him play better. Name one impact offensive player the Patriots brought in from 1997-1999. Draft or free agency.

Also, celebrating a member of an opposing team almost killing one of your players is a curious take for an 'ActualPatsFan'.

To be VERY clear, anybody who praises Mo Lewis is not a fan in my book.

Adam shanked 2 game winners against Buffalo at home. One in the 4th and overtime. Bro looked like he was shaving points. He was horrible in 1999.

It was certainly controversial at the time. The belief was that the team needed upgrades as they were on the decline. Bledsoe was a very high maintenance QB. But if you got him the supporting cast he needed, he’d shred defenses. I’ve never seen him so uncomfortable in an offense than in 2000-2001. He just wasn’t a good fit. His last good year was in Buffalo in 2002 when he had Eric Moulds and Peerless Price at WR and Travis Henry running the football.

Drew mentions this on Julian Edelman’s podcast that the drafts during that time were “poor”. He’s only scratching the surface on how bad management was.

Letting their backfield go after 1997 was idiotic. Both Martin and Gash were among the best in the league.

The drafts were horrendous. In fact, Ted Johnson said on his show that both he and Drew Bledsoe met with Bobby and told him not to sign Chris Canty after he was getting roasted in practice.

Robert Edward’s statistically had a good year, but he’s similar to Sony Michel where there’s nothing that wowed you about him.

Tony Simmons was supposed to complement Glenn and take over for Jefferson.

Faulk was awful as a primary back.

Terry Allen was desperation.

Rod Rutledge? LOL.

He also felt Pete Carroll got a raw deal. Locker room was divided on him only because they were used to Bill Parcells.

I agree. It’s in poor taste to celebrate a guy taking a freak hit and almost died if it were for the Pats trainer and Drew’s brother.
