We need to know what we have for the future.

ROBINSON
1) He is really getting abused. He needs to sit and learn the NFL game.
2) On the other hand, he is a fine run blocker. For now he should be our backup RG and our 6th OL in jumbo sets. I would much rather Jordan be starting at RG. Each week, it is Jordan that has been allowing the fewest pressures and sacks.

WALLACE
3) Well, he isn't a present or future LT, or even swing OT. He is a RT. I guess that it was useful to learn this. We did need to know for future planning.
4) Now, we need to see whether Wallace has a future as our starting RT or whether he will be a backup RT for his rookie contract.
5) We need to move Onwenu back to RG. We have 3 OT's (not counting Thomas) who can play RT when healthy (Lowe, Jacobs and Wallace).
Let's use one of them as the starting RT.

BOTTOM LINE
Let's play a solid IOL. If necessary, we should bring in more players from other Practice Squads or elevate our PS OT or trade for backup OT.
My hope is that Jacobs will be able to play LT when Lowe is injured. I recognize that we should try Thomas and Jones more during practces.

They should stay in there and learn the hard way by doing in live action as long as there's steady improvement... as long as Jacoby is back there taking the hits while they learn... Thanks JB!

Sow and Strange need to play as soon as possible.

Onwenwu is also better at guard than tackle.

If Lowe can get healthy I think you plug him back into LT. I don't think we really have any better option.

RT is a little trickier strange and Sow at guard with Onwenwu staying at RT might be the best option but Onwenwu is our best guard so it might make sense just to plug Wallace in at RT and put Onwenwu back where he's best.

So far it's only got worse so I have very little confidence in the players and coaching.

Like was said in some other threads -

Short term, get Sow back at LG and move Jordan over to RG, give Robinson some time on the bench to practice his pass protection. This shores up your interior OL so it's not as weak as it has been.

Long term, get Strange back at LG, move Onwenu back to RG and make Wallace your starting RT. Demontrey Jacobs and Caleb Jones will be more comfortable by then as backups. This gives you a pretty strong interior OL. Tackle will still be a sore spot, but by this point Maye is probably playing and he should hopefully be nimble enough to step up and avoid edge pressure or otherwise bail out as long as the middle is stout. This also gives valuable reps and practice to Wallace to be your long term RT starter for 2025 onward, so that you hopefully only need to find a LT next year.

Onwenwu has struggled rightly in pass protection so far this year.
This is something we don't talk about. Let's move Onwenu to RT now. Robinson's play should make this decision easier.

At RG, Onwenu is a top player. At RT, he is mediocre at best.

Yup. Agreed. I thought it was only the players but now it looks the coaches are very limited as well.
Yes, the coaching is definitely at fault. Shame on them. They have one of the very worst OL units in the NFL, and they are playing with their starting LT and LG injured (and backup LG). Shame on them for being trounced by a solid Defense.

I think you mean RG but I agree. He is an averageish tackle but a great guard.

This post doesn't make sense, much like most of your posts.

Wonder how DJ Humphries rehab is going…or if Charles Leno’s phone is working. We need to be evaluating guys for next year and beyond, but we can’t because it’s a ****ing dam break every snap.

LT: Anyone average
LG: Sow
C: Andrews
RG: Onwenu
RT: Wallace

They've played 3 games in the NFL with Wallace starting at LT for the first time ever.

They look awful right now, but let the season play out. There's not much they can do anyways.

Humphries, Donovan Smith maybe.

Give me one or two of theee guys who look like legit NFL OLinment, bring in a vet and cross your fingers that you get a high pick at OT

Onwenwu has struggled mightily in pass protection so far this year.
Perhaps in a unit that depends on others - such as OL - it’s difficult to perform / to be assessed. I think that Onwenu would likely look a LOT better if he was RT on the 2004 Patriots.

Not saying he’s a HoFer, but I believe OL is very very dependant on ‘the 5 working in unison’.

you mean move him back to RG right?

for the money we are spending on onwenu lets get the most value by moving him to a position where he excels and that would be RG. trying to get mediocre LT we are making all other units inept.

always go with jumbo TE formation and provide additional protection on left side. stop wallace experiment on LT. its either jacobs or lowe. keep poaching LTS from PS of other teas till you find a decent LT or decent swing tackle.

next year we should just be looking for LT. if lady luck smiles, lowe could be on upswing like trent brown and become a rock solid LT.

That's just making excuses everyone is at fault.

LT Lowe
LG Sow
C Andrews
RG Onwenu
RT Wallace

I think that is the line that has the greatest chance to stabilize things for this season. Hopefully they can get healthy enough. Robinson is not ready as a pass blocker.
