Extra reps for Maye this week

Its been reported that Maye has gotten about 30 percent of the practice snaps this week.

My theory is not that they are anxious to start him soon, but they may be forced to start him soon given the number of free rushes the Oline has and will likely continue to give up. I give major credit to Brissett's ability to be Houdini in avoiding the rush in Week 1, but it may only be a matter of time before he's jacked up and needs to come out.
Sounds good! Then Maye can get rocked too and we can begin the Milton era.

think you have this right... extra reps to get him set to replace Brissett at some point this season...

They might even up his practice reps even more if they can get the line to a point where they don't need jumbo packages, which was on 28% of the offensive snaps vs cincy... and that's 28% with an additional lineman... doesn't take into consideration them keeping a tight end in to block...

@Ian pretty sure you mean Caedan Wallace, not Courtney Wallace Jr...
LOL, yes, should be Caedan Wallace, but Courtney Wallace Jr. was a real player here, and the two share similar abbreviations (C.Wallace) so it just pulled him in error. I've fixed it and appreciate the heads up on that.

As Mayo said, the team is giving Brissett the reps necessary to prepare for the game while continuing to develop Maye. The competition is between how Brissett does on game days and how well Maye executes in practice. Maye will start if/when he is the better option. As long as Mayo is up front about the change, the players will understand.

I don’t believe that is true. Or at least Mayo‘s definition of „the better option“ is not solely related to play-mgmt & huddle-mgmt; (the way most ‚start Maye now’ posters here would think of it).

I believe Mayo is definitely looking at the long game and preserving the possibility of Maye in end-if-year / playoff timeframe.

Physically, I think every rookie has about 10-12 good games in them. (History spts this theory) After that point the longer nfl season wears too much on these college season bodies.

So i think Mayo wants to see if JB can keep the boat afloat til sometime in weeks 8-12; then the rest of season can be Maye‘s.

Maybe MAY be technically a better option before week 9; but I don’t expect to see him til then unless we get some blowouts with mop up duty.

Have to admit I thought ol man brisket was going to stay down after he was hit a few times. Looked beaten down a bit due to the sieve called an offensive (it really is) line. It won’t be long before either he’s hurt seriously, not so seriously, or just starts to suck I’m thinking so we will be seeing drake. I just hope he can hold up better.

62% passing and 121 yards is not good but it is good he didn’t lose the game for our other worldly defense and run game Mac “Backfoot” Jones style.
There were several free rushes where Jacoby escaped the pocket and made a play, where Mac would have crumbled like a cookie immediately. It was nice to see it.

It's not just the sieve of an OL, but Brissett has never had a short clock in his head and has the processing speed of a Mac II when it comes to reading what the D initially shows and what it ends up giving him, and he also loves himself big fat windows which rarely happens in the NFL.

AVP has actually tried going easy with him by having him (IMO) just read off the flat defender to the playside on a handful of plays. I'm sure I've seen him key off the flat a handful of times.

Makes you pine for the days of Brady whose processing speed was just flat out elite (sorry, here I go again). He'd already be on his fourth progression by the time Brissett got his eyes up.

The Pats have a shot but this isn't an easy game at all.

I agree. I think we will be fine defensively, but I'm worried about our O line. The seahawks rush four from all different places. I'm afraid they are going to have free rushers all day.

People keep saying the Bills have lost a lot of talent without mentioning Poyer and Hyde were old men that were a detriment to their defense, AND they were injured, that Tre White was a shadow of himself, that Milano was on IR and wasn't playing, but meanwhile the front 4 are all back and look better than ever.

Also, they fired their idiot OC Dorsey in the middle of the year and they immediately improved.

The Bills look like the old Patriots in terms of team buildup, very few stars but a lot of depth from players who are taking over from old vets.

Also, the Jets defense has more than those 2 players (Gardner and Williams). In case you didn't notice, Johnson was a Pro Bowler last year, the other Williams is good too, Mosely as well, and finally Will McDonald is a better version of Josh Uche.
on Jets I haven’t done the research to argue TOO much but McDonald had 3 sacks, Mosley is 32 and not same player he was, pro bowl kind of meaningless living in the New York bubble where they are all hyped, maybe you are right but they seem to lay an egg against every good team, leads me to think they are overrated but admit haven’t delved into them in great detail.
They’re the only two players I look at is being excellent, and you usually need more than that to equal their reputation as a top D.
Rodgers is an upgrade regardless of course. Just not sure how much at his age.

Bills gave up 28 at home to Arizona we will see about the defense. They lost Diggs, a legitimate number 1 receiver. But yeah they have Josh and he’s the best QB like Brady was. Couldn’t get over the hump with better players and Josh at QB, so we’ll see. Allen could just go to the next level and carry them.

My question is can a rookie QB learn to read a defense from the bench. Anticipation. Timing etc. Or, is it better to throw them out there and let them learn on the fly?

If the OL is a mess, do you want him out there? On one hand he gets experience. On the other, it could negatively affect him going forward. You don't want him injured either.

Anyone else hear the commentary that during the Bengals game Maye was disengaged on the sideline rather than listening to the play calls? You'd think he'd have McAdoo or someone in his ear during the Pats offensive reps.

Agreed. The Bills and Jets are tough. Not outstanding, but definitely tough. Rogers looks like he can not move the same so he is doing more arm throwing which is what Marino said would happen (Marino had the same injury late in his career). Rogers will never be the same, he can not move or throw like the old Aaron, but he is still good enough to make the JETS a tough out.

It will be interesting to see if the Pats can run on the Seahawks and JETS. I doubt it becuase I think both teams will stop the run and make Brissett pass. In that situation, I hope to see Polk and Douglas shine. I dont think Brissett can throw a long ball to Thornton, we will have to wait for Maye to see that threat potentially realized.

Probably the SF game which is likely a loss regardless. After that it is the Texans, best run defense they will face.

The "tough" schedule all of a sudden not looking so tough.
49ers and Bills are the only teams I'm afraid of.

Already beat the "Super Bowl Contender" Bengals (frauds with an overrated QB)
Seahawks travel cross country without top RB
Jets Defense has Williams and Gardner and then a bunch of who are they? Rodgers is still a question mark.
Dolphins look like they lost something from last year before Tua went down.
Texans we get at home, Stroud has started slow, solid team but no juggernaut But can stop the run and weak against the pass
Jaguars, Mid-team with a mid-QB
Titans: Will Levis makes a dumb play a couple times a game Latham, the 2nd tackle taken is a disaster in Pass protection.
Bears: Not giving up on Williams but he looked like crap and by then hope Maye is playing and Maye is better than Williams.
Rams: Great QB, good wr's assuming all healthy and rest of roster kind of bad
Colts: Terrible QB, can run a bit, terrible accuracy on throws
Cardinals: QB that can run but can't throw, no defense whatsoever
Chargers: Great QB, good tackles, no wr's and below average defense
Bills: Josh Allen a superman, overall roster is weaker than last year when we beat them

Just realized not many great teams, probably a product of the crappy QB play, as Brady pointed out the overall QB play these days is weak. Can I name 10 guys I think are very good? probably not.
.
I see 14-3 if we can just pass the ball past 5 yards in the air successfully. HA!
I don't see this at all...

Take that commentary with a grain of salt. 9/10 times it’s them just jawing on providing entertainment to get people talking and guess what? It worked. Drake is so far from Mac it’s funny.
