Mayo Made The Right Call, The Only Call - Brissett over Maye

For you, there is only black and white.

PLAN A is for Brissett to play for a few games, and for the Offense to play the first quarter developing the Offense and developing our OL. As Belichick used to say, the first quarter is an extended pre-season. Under this plan, Brissett would most likely start Game 5.
=========
PLAN B

Just because there is a Plan A doesn't mean that events that might change this plan.

One of those events is Brissett getting injured, in which case Maye would play. Perhaps this wasn't decided until the team was comfortable that they had in fact gotten him ready to play earlier than Game 5, if necessary.
===============
Another possible contingency COULD have occurred, If the OL developed early in camp, and was playing reasonably well and consistently, Maye MIGHT HAVE started Game 1.
Didn't Mayo say that plan A was to burn some cash?

There are indeed certain guys...
Fot instace, if TyREEK took a career ender I'd probably play it on a loop for a good week or two

Tom Brady himself, TB12, agrees. The Drake Maye era needs to wait a bit, for his own good.

"I've gone on record to say that I think that it's best in my opinion for young quarterbacks or rookie quarterbacks to kind of watch a veteran do it," Brady said, as shared by Stephen Douglas of Sports Illustrated. "There's so much that goes on and quarterbacks need to process so much information so quickly and I think if you can have someone — I sat behind Drew Bledsoe my first year. What a great player he was. Someone that I got to watch and learn from. Aaron Rodgers watched behind Brett Favre. Patrick Mahomes watched behind Alex Smith."

except all those qb’s are better than jb

Only 7 Superbowl Championships. The greatest QB to ever play the game. The GOAT. He knows a thing or two about football.
I mean, he is not wrong but that don’t make it an absolute either. He is just advocating for the treatment he had because it worked for him.

The same way Peyton Manning said that his first year was invaluable in his development.

If it was as simple as to sit your QB a year and he will become an hall of famer then everybody would do it.

Also Brady situation wasn’t even remotely close to this one. His situation was closer to Joe Milton. And I don’t think anybody is clamoring for Milton to start week 1. If Brady was drafted top 5 and was sitting behind Scott Zolak, i don’t think he would have the same speech. But that’s just me.

I'm sorry it doesn't make sense to you. I guess we just see it differently. Oftentimes in life we've all had to fall back to plan B, or D due to circumstances beyond our control. It just is what it is. I'm not looking for an argument but if you are then try Andy, he lives for them. Unless ofc this is another Andy sock puppet account in which case congrats I guess, you tricked me into engaging with you.
The thing is Mayo literally said multiple times that they decided on a plan in March and that they will NOT deviate from it.

So if the plan was to not rush him out there then they should have took actions to not have to rush Maye out there early. If they need to throw away the plan if Brissett gets injured then it’s a huge failure on the coaching staff and the front office for not planning enough the contingencies.

My point is either Maye isn’t ready and they should have made moves to avoid having to throw away the plan or Maye is ready now and they should have started him week 1.

I just think the coaching staff lack some cojones and even if Maye is ready in their mind they are afraid that it blows up in their faces so they sit him to be able to say : « we didn’t rush him, it’s not our fault » or « We were forced to put him in there when his wasn’t ready, it’s not our fault »

The plan is for JB not to get injured, if he does what other choice do they have?
If the plan was don’t play Maye (it shouldn’t have been but that’s what people are saying) they should have kept Zappe to play if there was any injury.

He and Wolf think JB is better to start at least for a while, while getting Maye some experience learning from the sidelines but if JB goes down what's his choice? Milton or Maye, he's not going to say we'll have to play Maye but he's not ready, obviously Maye would be next up over Milton.
He concluded Maye's the back up. We know not if but behind this line when JB goes down maye daye era begins.

You've been mostly correct on this throughout this thread, but I'm going to take issue with you on this. It's simple enough logic to reason that Milton beat out Zappe as well.

If brissett and Maye were both unavailable and Milton and Zappe are her today Zappe would start.

But specific to this conversation I can’t imagine how they would justify playing the rookie Milton over Maye. Again, I am saying IF the plan was Maye just can’t play because they are afraid for his life then they would have Kelly zappe.

Honestly I think someone at the top just feels rookie QBs shouldn’t play so regardless of anything else he wasn’t going to.

He also literally said they were competing for the job and Maye outplayed him. Why say it’s a competition if it was predetermined in march?

Perhaps if the OL was set early in camp, and looked good in the pre-season, THEN Maye might have started Game 1.

I certainly saw it as POSSIBLE that Okorafor would look good at LT and either Wallace at RT, Wallace at swing, or Onwenu at rt and RObinson starting. As some have been saying for months, the OL MAY be a player away from competency with four starters in place: Sow, Andrews, Onwenu and either Robinson or Wallace.

The key was and is Okorafor. If he is a semi-competent LT, then he or Lowe can start and backup, and that line can start all year.
