Mayo Made The Right Call, The Only Call - Brissett over Maye

He belongs in there and sooner is better than later. A mythical injury doesn't change that. At what point do the "Sit Drake" supporters feel the OL will be ready enough to let the best player at the most important position play?

I think it might matter to the players. If Maye actually gives them a better option and the players know that then that could cause an issue if Brissett struggles.

In the end, it's been five years since they've had an actual starting QB and I can wait a few more weeks to see if we have another.
Agree here. Is why I'm willing to let Brissett play for now. Let's Drake acclimate to GameDay, GameDay planning, in game adjustments, different looks from defenses. As alot of us are expecting once Brissett starts making errant throws, and INTS and it looks like last season I'd expect to see Drake!

I'm sure the Pats brain trust is relieved to know you're willing to let Brissett play for now. No doubt they were sweatin' bullets awaiting your approval.

Thank you. I'm glad you approved. It was a tough decision, but we as an organization felt it was best for now.. it may not be what is best weeks from now! LOL..

Honestly if they are fine with that then Maye should have been the starter week 1. It’s looking more and more that Brissett has been promised the job when he signed.

Or Mayo has no say in the offense and disagree with the AVP/Wolf approach and he project to the media what he wants to happen.

They were ranked 13th overall in preseason in PFF rating, Preseason is preseason, but what they did in preseason really is not indicative on how it will go. The LT is a big question mark, the other positions, if manned by the best 4 assuming everyone is healthy, have shown in preseason to be fine.
If Sow and Lowe are both out, the depth is weak, will be a challenge.
Bengals were middle of the road on sacks last year, worst in yards per attempt on defense for passing and overall a below average defense. Even though they are on the road the line should perform well, if they do not play well against the Bengals, and they have their starters, then we can say the issue is real.
I'm just not expecting them to perform better against starters than third stringers but fair enough.

Or, you know, he simply meant what he said.
And ofc, our man Milton is a hella big no so there's no way in God's good creation he's taking the field ahead of Maye if Biscuit goes down

And he changed from they are competing for the job and Maye is outplaying him to you have to include minicamps

I think Mayo and Wolf know they put together an awful roster and are looking for a scapegoat
Brissett will probably play until we are 0-7 or 0-8 then they will blame him Maye comes in and they win a could of games and say next year will be better because Maye won’t be a rookie any more.

He and Wolf think JB is better to start at least for a while, while getting Maye some experience learning from the sidelines but if JB goes down what's his choice? Milton or Maye, he's not going to say we'll have to play Maye but he's not ready, obviously Maye would be next up over Milton.

No scapegoat is need for a poor record. A scapegoat will only be necessary if Maye is injured and can't play to start 2025.

per Mayo...
“When we talk about developing a guy like Drake, that is a continuous process,” Mayo said of the team’s third overall pick. “If Jacoby was to get injured in the first week, 1,000%, Drake would be the next guy as the No. 2 quarterback on our roster.”

Exactly, "a 1000 percent" they'll play Maye if Biscuit goes down is a non-story. WTH else are they gonna do ffs?
That's some Earth shattering news right there, if the one goes down the two goes in. Imagine that???
Stop the freakin' presses...smdh

It’s not a non-story. The argument for the not starting Maye week 1 is that’s the plan ! He is not ready, he hasn’t seen enough NFL defense on film, his mechanic are still imperfect, the OL is awful, we don’t want to risk an injury.

So now if Brissett gets injured week 1, the plan doesn’t matter anymore and they are fine putting Maye in behind the same awful OL, fine with risking an injury, fine with him not have perfect mechanics. If find that contradicting.

Either wait until he is ready in your mind and play somebody else if Brissett is injured or if you think Maye is ready to play week 2 if Brissett is injured then Maye should have been starting week 1.

Its not an "argument". Its is quite literally what they are doing.

Brissett has worked with the first unit since day 1. Its been evident since OTA's, its been evident since Camp started and ended that this is what they are going to do.

I think the team is very pleased with the progress that Maye has made. I think you will see Maye taking over the starters role at some point this season. There isn't anything wrong with that. We've seen it before in the NFL, we will see it again.

The team went the win win route. Sit the rookie, let him continue to learn how to be a pro and continue to work his game without the pressure of being the starter.

The organization takes any criticism for losses or bad pay from Jacoby if it plays out that way.

Also if, like some believe, the line is playing a part in this decision it gives them a few weeks to see how it plays out/fix it.

I'm in the play the kid camp. But I get the patience. Letting him watch and learn is not going to hurt him. I'm guessing barring an injury or just outright awful play by Jacoby, we don't see Maye any earlier than week 6-8. Possibly even after the buy to mop up the season.

No scapegoat is need for a poor record. A scapegoat will only be necessary if Maye is injured and can't play to start 2025.
Why would no scapegoat be needed if they go 1-16?

How could you possibly need a scapegoat for a football player getting injured?

This contradicts the argument that they aren’t playing maye to protect him because of the OL.
They appear to think the only thing standing in Mayes way is Jacoby Brissett and Mayo even went it of his way to say that he doesn’t want Brissett to worry that Maye is gaining on him, so Maye appears to not even be in competition to play. Our top draft pick has been designated clipboard holder and scout team QB. What a tremendous plan to develop our #1 asset.

Ideally he sits and learns. However, if Jacoby gets hurt, we are no longer in the ideal. Milton was valued more than Zappe.

I don't understand the problem.
