Mayo Made The Right Call, The Only Call - Brissett over Maye

It certainly delays it in my mind. No amount of film study makes up for game experience.

Overall it's good to have a QB who it looks like could end up being the real deal. I can wait for him to start playing in games. I'll try not to be too hard on Jalopy if he struggles to reach Thornton with his passes.

I totally agree with this.

Patriots fans have PTSD from watching Mac.

The OL may be bad but it looked 100x worse because Mac was behind it. When Maye got in the game, suddenly the OL looked much better.

A good QB will improve the quality of the line just by making the defense back off. We seem to have forgotten that over the last 3 years.

I don't think we can say either way what would happen. But if Maye is the better QB he belongs in there.
I'm hoping to get a "Play Drake" supporter to address this question: if he is seriously injured -- even career ending -- due to the abysmal OL we have, will you still think that he "belong[ed] in there"? Alternatively, if that happens will you say the risk was worth the reward? Do you think the risk is negligible, despite JB getting hurt already?

How many times did we see clueless Mac move himself right into the blitzer instead of moving in the other direction?? Pocket presence is a thing some guys have it and some guys don't Marino and Brady was the best at it.

As bad as Mac was, Jacoby is costing us $5m more this year. Would we have been better off just keeping him as the sacrificial lamb for a few weeks?

I hated the signing I preferred Jimmy G as a possible bridge.

He's a people pleaser. He tries way too hard in his press conferences to be nice and amiable to everyone, answering just about every question. And he's walked away a few times with his foot in his outh.

I am banking on that.

Agreed. Lessen that steep incline of the learning curve everybody is on.

Mayo shouldn't defer to anyone. Hes the Head Coach.
Agree. But as a defensive coach at least for now he's allowed AVP autonomy on the offense. So it's AVPs baby.. if the offense looks like ****.. then he's responsible.

LT = ???
swing OT - ???
LG - Strange/Sow/Robinson
C - Andrews, ???
RG - Onwenu, Robinson/Sow
RT- Wallace

We seem to have six for 2025, needing a LT, swing OT and a backup C. Strange could be that backup center.
I just have no idea what is going to happen with Strange.

I agree. But what happens if J.B., injury prone at times, gets injured within the first few snaps in Cincinnati? Does Milton start?

If they are so hell bent on Maye not starting, he should be QB # 3 going into the season.
In that case our hand is forced and Maye starts if there’s an injury. That’s why I wouldn’t have been opposed to carrying Zappe to bridge a few games for a JB injury.

I just have no idea what is going to happen with Strange.
Strange when healthy is our quickest most athletic OL-man, and well suited to the offense we're now running. I'd expect him to take over LG when he returns. Long term if we re-sign him, he could be a candidate to play center when Andrews retires.

To me, the key question is," Does this decision serve the goal of developing Maye as the eventual long-term starter or does it not? I take the #1 goal this season to be the development/evaluation of recent-acquired players, Maye first and foremost. I care very little about how many games they win.

I try - maybe to a fault - to be definitive in my views, but i am frankly not sure how to answer my own question. I won't rehash the arguments. In the end, as generic or tedious as it may sound, I think a circumstance in which Brisset plays for a period in which further facts are gathered regarding the two qb's, the o-line, the receivers, the new coaches, and so on is probably wise; and I suspect that at some point those accumulating facts will suggest that it is time for Maye to play and that that is what they will do. The facts will - one hopes- determine when that moment comes. This isn't an exciting prospect, not a prospect offering much in the way of immediate gratification, but it might just be - given how far the franchise has fallen - for the best.

I suspect fwiw that Mayo's lousy job of communicating throughout the process has served to obscure such wisdom as the decision might have. The underlying problem, though, is the lousy roster and the learn-as-you go management team. Mayo is part of that problem, but he is not its cause. That falls on Bill and Robert, on Bill for his lousy GM work and on Robert for being such a feel-good squish during the hiring process.

Hey on the bright side I won't have to pay to renew NFL+ and I can spend the time on other pursuits rather than on watching a terrible team play out a forfeited season. That's not entertainment for me. I'm sure season ticket holders will continue to show up, but I can't imagine why anyone not already committed would pay the exorbitant amounts they charge to watch their team get embarrassed every week. At least the draft next year will be exciting!

I'm 71, so I'm not terribly patient with promises of multi-year rebuilds. I can't imagine that Robert Kraft at 83 is happy with the condition of his plaything. But hey, I'm sure you can look forward to stellar leadership when his accomplished son takes over!

Good luck to all of you and to the team.

Moay
Mayo probably wanted Jimmy glass but his agent reported he got hurt walking to his car.
nah, they targeted jacoby early on b/c of his familiarity with avp

I wanted Jimmy G

Imagine the havoc, being able to make threads like "Tom Who??" "Shoulda Made this Move in '16" etc etc

How about Cole Strange @ LT kinda like Matt Light.

Put that in perspective though - Preseason Games ? Regular Season Games

With the power of hindsight it’s easy to say. But light was a rookie, woody was good but flawed and the other 3 were JAGs.

If Wallace plays LT and comes close to Light (as a rookie)
You then have Onwenu=Woody, Okorafir = GRR Anderson and Sow = Compton and Andruzzi.
Those 4 look like a dead heat.

Certainly not enough of a difference to say we can’t play Maye because this OL would ruin a QB, when we see how that OL didn’t ruin Brady.

It's not the same OL. Without the benefit of foresight, it seems like it'd be responsible to see what we have before we throw another rook to the wolves.

In 2001, this franchise was in a far different place, as far as expectations and recent experience. Regardless of what happens during an offseason, there is now a much larger expectation that, at some point in the near future, this team should be contending. One could reasonably argue that we've also recently mishandled a first-round quarterback, so it doesn't stretch reason to exercise some caution.

Some of you guys seem to think Maye will be holding a clipboard all year and not ever pout his helmet on, I'm sure he'll get some reps and maybe even start some games as the year goes on.

The " head coach of the offense " wanted Jacoby. Meh... the Jimmy in '16 absolutely not so sure on the current version. Good thing for us we have so many 1 pm games. We can get the agony out the way, and not loose sleep for work on Sunday night games.

I'm pretty sure he played some LT at Chattanooga. If I recall right when he was a rookie, we ran him a little at LT but not in any games. Theoretically he could be a candidate but he doesn't seem big enough to me for the running game.
