The defense hasn’t played a game yet. The defense you are basing your opinion on lost it’s designer who was the best defensive mind of our generation. It also lost 2/3 of its interior DL and is trying to replace them with castoffs. Who is going to stop the run, who is going to rush the passer? Who is cb3 and s3, one of the other is on the field virtually every down. Is there depth at any position at all to overcome inevitable injuries?
There are many reasons to be concerned.

The defense is the least of concern. Yes Bill's not here, Yes they lost judon ans beast more. It's excepted by most posters they will take a small drop off.. however they still project to be good.
Did you enjoy the Chargers game last season? Better yet how about that season finale exciting game?

This is a scoring league. We averageed 13.9.PPG last season. So your saying you love games like the Chargers game? The offense needs to be marginal at best and defense will always bring it.

We should all appreciate the years of greatness and accept that we are moving on with a new team and fresh challenges. The media has been pretty critical of Mayo as well as this board. I don't get it. Give the guy a couple years to see if he can turn this around. Tough to win with the mess left behind. Getting the QB was a huge first step.

But, since BK bought the franchise, he has hired 3 Super Bowl Head Coaches of the last 4. Parcells didn't win it and Carroll moved on to win his, but BB more than made up for it.

The current state of this team reminds me of the 90's before hiring Parcells. I used to drive to the old stadium with no ticket and get a 40 yard line seat from a guy on the street outside the stadium for $20. That game that Zolak started and beat the Jets there were more Jets fans in the stands than Patriots fans(since they finished 2-14 that year). From that point, it took a long time before the team was good.

So my question is this: Do you think the team is tanking this year? Would you want them to tank?

They may only win 4-6 games if they were trying hard with their poor offensive line/other issues. I hate rooting against my favorite team even when they are bad. However, getting another top 3 pick(or even the first pick) might be the best thing this team needs to have another run at championships.

Look at the OKC Thunder. They traded away all their stars, and got a young star in return in SGA. Drafted high for a couple of years. Now they are back in contention. (Granted the Celtics are still a much better team) I understand with basketball you only need a few drafts to replenish.

Back in the day when the Patriots were bad, I used to say "I just want to see 1 championship". As fans we got much more than that with the Dynasty. I just look forward to them getting back to that point again and I personally would be ok with sucking to get the #1 pick next year. Since I have already seen years of bad football in New England back in the day

Just tired of the negativity on this board. We went through years of the Tom crap when he left, and now Bill is gone, and I thought, woohoo finally we can move past that crap and get on to talking about football seriously. But now we have the Bill Ball washers who rip everythig the new regime does. Jesus cut the crap, it gets so old.
