So who will be the return guy this year? It seems no one is talking about special teams much but I would like to know who our best return guy would be.
I was thinking Tyquan Thornton, with his speed could help us. He hasn't made much of an impression as a receiver so far so maybe he can find his niche there..

Thornton is fragile enough as it is. We don't need to have him returning kicks.

It's either going to be Marcus Jones when he gets healthy, or Reagor or Wallis. I'd rather it be Jones because he seems to be so much more natural.

Seems every time BoneyT takes a special teams rep he winds up heading to the trainers' tent after.

If/when he's healthy I'd expect Marcus Jones' in combination with Reagor. I'd very much doubt the Pats will use a spot on the 53 for a return specialist. They'll need that spot elsewhere

I hope Reagor returns punts and kicks…if he makes the 53. If Marcus is CB3 then no to returns. Tyquan is too fragile.

Marcus Jones. Wallis is a feel good story, but his ass will be cut.
Jones is our punt returner with Wallis on the Practice Squad.

The real question is whether we make a place on the roster for Ster Reagor, calling him the 6th WR.

Zero doubt Marcus will be our number 1 punt returner when he's healthy.

Fairly certain he'll also be our first kick returner too. But there's a small chance they feel being starting slot corner and punt returner is enough.

Reagor is kick returner 2.

Gibson made a blocking mistake but he's also in the mix if they think a RB will be a better lead blocker.

I lean toward Wallis being a feel good story and hopefully we can keep on the PS and see how he develops.

Wallis has already proven himself to be a return specialist. What did Marcus Jones do to be the bonafide guy? One return that time?

You keep Wallis at #6 WR to return. Pop, Polk, Baker, Osborne, Tyquan.

PS Tyquan, Wallis depending on the game once KB returns. I wanna see more of Wallis tbh.

Other than being one of the best, if not the best, NCAA Div 1 punt returner during his final two years at Houston and then making the Pro Bowl as a returner as a rookie? Nothing.

I’m just eye balling from what I’ve seen in the NFL. Marcus Jones may have had all those little honors but I never thought “this guy is elusive”. He hits a hole and has some straight line speed. If he gets lucky he can get that big return.

Wallis seems like the nifty type who can have the lateral movement. Maybe a poor man’s Edelman but I think he has more potential. I doubt he makes the team but IDK.

What has Tyquan ever showed in real time to earn a roster spot? Nothing. Wallis has done more notable things in two preseason game than Thornton ever has, particularly given he is a second round pick.

I’ve heard very little about Osb

There's not even a debate. Reagor is ahead of Wallis too. But to answer your question:

In 2022 Marcus Jones became the first NFL player in 75 years to score a touchdown in all three phases of the game in a single season: offense, defense, and special teams. All three of his touchdowns were from over 40 yards away, including the pick six. Jones was also named first team AP All-Pro.

His yards per punt return average is 12 yards and his yards per kick return average is 23.9
2 interceptions for an average return of 43.5
4 receptions 19.5 yard average

He's bonafide.

He's bonafide.
The question is more whether or not they want to risk him getting injured on STs.

As a case in point, "Wally Pipp" jokes aside, letting Edelman handle PR instead of Welker was good from a strategic standpoint. By the same token, Edelman, who was one of the all-time greats at PR, mostly ceded that role to Amendola (and others) after he became Brady's security blanket.

Yeah I think Marcus might be our PR and Reagor taking kicks for exactly the reasons you state.

However he might just be too good not use on both even still.

I was thinking Tyquan Thornton, with his speed could help us.
-Unable to survive the ground
-Vulnerable to finger tackles
