So I've been reading the updates as they are posted and really appreciate the amount of information and timeliness of it as practice occurs as well as the post practice articles and videos.

A few things of note:

1. Here was a quote by Chad Graff in the Athletic
"The problem for the offense so far has been twofold. The slightly less concerning part is the logistics of it. There have been too many pre-snap penalties and players lining up in the wrong spots. That’s probably a function of it still being July while learning a new scheme. There are six weeks to clean that up before the season starts"

I would be very interested in knowing what players appear to be committing the pre-snap penalties and what if any consequences are there. I don't have high expectations for this team but a lack of focus or discipline is something I will always put on the coaches.

2. I'm not sure if I'm in the minority here but when I've read that the offense had a bad day, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of analysis attached to this. For instance, we will be provided stats on how many sacks there were but there is no detail on where the breakdown occurred or what player appeared responsible. Was there a stunt by the Dline; was it a 4 man rush or blitz? We hear about the line Tackles being switched up regularly but no specific analysis on the player performance.

Maybe next week when they put the pads on and there are specific pass protection/rush periods of practice, we'll receive more detail

I went to camp yesterday for the first time this offseason, I saw the offense screw up at least twice on the snap count or pre snap operation... Maye was under center both times. Not for nothing, but I also saw the defense jump offsides once.

They're installing an entirely new offensive system with a QB who is 21 years old. It will take some time and a lot of reps for them to get comfortable and run a clean operation. I didn't see any screw ups with Brissett under center but maybe I missed one.

I also saw one stupid good tight window throw by Maye that made me sit up and say damn... haven't seen a laser like that in years attending camp. If they can shake the rust off, get a good grasp on the system they should be fine. This is why Brissett was a great signing this offseason. Any young QB was going to need a vet in front of him to watch and emulate. Just having a coach tell you what to do was not enough.

Now, can they block worth a damn is the real question... we'll see when the pads come on.

Chuks Okorafor at LT doesn’t inspire confidence. But at least there’s Calvin A. Well, that may be a work in progress, too.

VLowe there’s there too. So there’s that.

Is it a good time to begin a glue-sniffing habit?

Love hearing reports from non reporters. Official reporters have the exact same comments just worded slightly different.

Did the offense penalties seem to be a result of what Maye was doing?

You forgot to mention if Onwenu is at RG, we have to start 2 of the 3, Okorafor, Anderson and Lowe. Glue is not strong enough.

Nothing will be worse than the stories we heard about the offense during 2022 training camp.

If 2 of these three is not good enough AND Wallace isn't ready to start at RT, then I think we start Onwenu at RT.

As Wozzy keeps saying, we seem to have four starters: Sow, Andrews, Onwenu and one of Anderson/Wallace/Okorafor.

This isn't terrible. The likely bad case is that we are looking for a starting RG.

And, look how great that season turned out.

Van Pelt is probably like..."damn... what the hell am I going to do with these guys in this offense?"

They just aren't built for what he wants them to do. Cleveland has a way better O-line and backs than NE does.

Not too bad retrospectively. If they were to have that kind of record this year, most people with realistic expectations would be pretty happy.

I like Caedan Wallace at RT.

We have three starters. A great guard tandem Sow and Onwenu. Decent, reliable center in Andrews.

Running more outside zone would be more of a challenge for the 350 pound Onwenu at RT. I think both he and they want him moved back inside. That’s where he’s dominant.

Tackles? No one knows. I am hoping Anderson comes in strong at LT. Wallace is equipped to start at RT. Okorafor the swing.

Belichick sucked in his OL overseeing since 2021 by not drafting RT Dawand Jones in the third round two years ago and not doing more to adequately shore up LT in anticipation of Trent Brown being gone.

I mentioned in another post Dan Skipper floated around the Lions’ practice squad several years ago. An easy acquisition for us and an upgrade over McDermott.

But Belichick was a disaster for the OL after the staggered departures of the wonderful Cole Popovich and the decent Carmen Bricillo.

Seems the same as last year with T Brown gone and Okorafor in. It was bad last year. Why is it much different?

Question: would you take the 2022 offensive stats for this year?

They finished 17th that year. And did worse under O'Brien.

You're blaming Belichick and here we had a team picking in the top 3 of every round in 2024 and didn't draft an LT.

Something tells me this front office (the same front office) is not that good at assessing lineman. Layden Robinson? Caeden Wallace?

Well for starters Wallace is a rookie that could be an upgrade and Anderson, who has been a serviceable tackle in the past, is fully recovered from a debilitating disease that almost killed him and wrecked his 2023 season.

Sounds like we only have 3 starters to me.

We had Brown, Lowe and McDermott (RT).

We now have Okorafor, Anderson and Wallace (RT).

I like this year better.
