Pats WR's ... What is a #1 WR?

For the most part. I think Edelman was the Patriots 1 WR, but I don’t see him as a prototypical #1WR. Great player, but I don’t think he fits that mold.
Edelman's my #1

Wasn’t Harry a number 1 WR?

What’s a #1 WR?

This ^

7th round pick, but he had agility and quickness comparable to the best athletes in the NFL. He couldn’t be covered…
Even though it happens from time to time those guys most times don't pan out. Again sometimes Teams get lucky like we have been many times.

F the numbers. Matchups matter. If it's a back, TE, slot or X who are we going too on 3rd down. Just need 2 clutch receivers who can beat gonzo and Jones sometimes in camp! TE could be WR1, Running back WR1.

Edelman for sure was a #1.
interesting career that spanned 12 seasons. he couldn't see the field on offense for 4 seasons. put up 3 great seasons in 4 years, with a season ending injury in the middle of that span in what looked to be his best season. then he lost a full season to injury, followed by losing a quarter of the season to suspension, only to come back as good as ever for one and three quarter seasons. his last season again lost to injury.
Edelman, Gronk and White on the field together, had that chemistry with Brady, knew the teams extensive playbook like the back of their hands, and all 3 were great blockers to boot. on any given game day, either of the 3 could be that games #1 target

This discussion looks like the baseball arguments over who is an "ace" pitcher. A pitcher can be the ace of the team but not an ACE.

Like ace pitchers there aren't many WR1 caliber players in the league. When you have one you'll know. He makes everyone including his QB better. I mentioned Alex Smith above... case in point.

I’m psyched for Mac, knowing he’ll be good now that BB isn’t holding him back is good to know.

Let me know when we can expect him to start?
Good for you. Mac is also psyched for Mac now that BB isn't holding him back.

Nah, there’s players found in every round of the draft.

Troy Brown, Welker, Amendola, Edelman, Jakobi Meyers… the only ones on this list who were drafted was Jules in the 7th and Troy in the 8th… the 8th round no longer exists. The rest were UDFA’s…

Tell us when you think he’ll take Trevor Lawrence’s job? That guys been a real underachiever…
Would you two get a room so you can fight or f#$% already? Its literally the same back and forth non arguements in every thread. You know there is middle ground, Bill did just about everything possible to ruin Mac AND if Mac was who he was supposed to be that wouldnt have mattered. Its ok to be happy both are gone and there is a fresh start with a new beginning thats exciting to root for without trying to win a 4 year old arguement thats been beaten and beaten and beaten and beaten and beaten and beaten to death. Let it go.

And that is exactly where I am at.

Love Jules, his podcast is must listen patriot porn, and if heart and determination were the only things that matter he would definitely be in the top 5 patriots of all time, but i think the legend of his playoff stats are clouding who he was in the regular season. He had 3 1000 yard seasons all by the skin of his teeth, getting 100 targets once. He was Robin to Gronks Batman and in no way shape or form a #1. If he had played like he did in the playoffs every year we are talking about a clear HOFer but he only has a little over 6000 yards in 12 seasons.

IMO to be a #1 you have to be 6'2+ 220+ lbs run at least a 4.4 and have either a crazy vertical or top shelf Route running. There are usually 4 or 5 in the NFL in a given year and the crazy part is its not always the same guys. My criteria is every single game you need to do one of three things 1)get 5-8 catchs for 60-120 yards against the other teams #1 corner, i.e you win some you lose some but you hold your own and draw thier best coverage 2) get double covered and open up the field for everyone else to have big days or 3) get crappy coverage and go off for 10 catches 200 yards and a couple TDs.

The exception to that oddly enough is a player like Welker. Not a #1 IMO but has a much better arguement for it. 5 seasons over 1k yards 5 seasons of 150+ targets almost 10k career yards. When i hear the word uncoverable thats who immediately springs to mind. Its 3rd and 6, welker is going to run a 7 yard juke out, the pats know it, the defense knows it, didnt matter first down 70% of the time.

You respond with the same talking points again and again and again. You are as guilty as he is. Crazy thing is i agree with both of you to different degrees depending on the point.

I don't think every team has a legit WR1 at least if you think a WR1 is like an "ace" pitcher in baseball and I do. There aren't many of those in the league.

Love JE11 but I wouldn't put him in that category. His QB made him not the other way around. Hard to see him having the same level of success somewhere else.

I suppose I can sometimes but when you're trying to have a reasonable conversation with a last-word jockey it's hard not to.
