Pats WR's ... What is a #1 WR?

All are slot receivers, apart from Evans. I was debating adding Evans to the list, but decided against it because he was part of a duo with Godwin. He also just barely cracked a thousand yards that season. In my mind, a #1 is the clear cut top receiver on the team.
evans running up 1000 yards in every year of his career, which no one else has done, really does point to him being a number 1... and I would classify Jennings as more of a hybrid receiver than just a slot guy...

but hey Toe May Toe or Toe Mah Toe ... thanks for the insight

I just answered this in another thread. Wozzy is on tilt. His post are tough to read tbh.

.....

"It's not that hard if you think about it for a few seconds. You might not nail down every single aspect but it's really not hard.

In no order ...
A)does he attract & win against CB1 and / or bracket coverage
B)wins consistently- semi-consistently on the outside
C)has his qb's trust when things are tough (3rd down, high leverage spots)
D)effective, efficient and productive with what he's given in terms of snaps, targets

I could add a few others. There's no exact criteria but its not that hard if you think about it."

ALTERNATIVE ONE
a team's top WR, hopefully one that other teams need to game plan for and who requires a double team

ALTERNATIVE TWO
One of the top few WR's in the NFL, one who can be the focus of the team's Offense. Many argue that the patriots have had only one #1 this century.

it's all about mismatches, right?
does this offense have a player that commands double coverage, "where is he?" on each snap attention? I say they do not, and have not for quite some time. if 2 defenders are covering one offensive player, another offensive player is either covered by a LB or S, or uncovered. or an area of the field in zone coverage is vulnerable.
imo, that player is not Pop (yet), Henry or Polk (yet).

A lot of team don't have a player that demands double coverage, the Chiefs haven't the last two years. Mismatches isn't about having one magical player.

It's about my #1, #2, #3, #4 options being better than your #1, #2, #3 and #4 CB's... it's also about my lines ability to block your pass rush and my QB's skill to beat you by spotting the mismatches. It's about a play callers ability to fool the opponents coverage.

Passive aggressive attacks are for women.

You didn't counter my concise well worded response to you, so I'll just assume you can't.

AVP's Offense love Big Play Guys this where Thornton fits in I am sure AVP will make us know If Thornton is in the plans or not I sure hope so. Thornton is over Fastest boundary Receiver we need to set him loose.
I feel good about TT this season.. it's a big year for him.. 2nd Round pick.. he shown it in flashes.. but he needs to be more consistent and stay on the field... imagine TT & baker on the outside with the speed of pop in the slot!...

Kelce is routinely double covered, and Hill was too.
plus they have the added option of Mahomes running

Hill hasn’t been on the team in three years.

Kelce had the third lowest yards per game and TD’s scored of his entire career. He’s old and getting older. Not a problem for the Chiefs, they won with Juju as their #1.

It’s a team game, you don’t need a #1 WR, history has shown that.

"They" being a team with an all world QB. Funny how you forget that part. Also the Pats don't have one so let's not pretend the Pats are fine without a #1 WR.

That's why so many teams have won championships without a #1 WR. Oh wait!

Nick Foles wasn’t an all world QB, he didn’t have a #1… myth busted.

yes, I know. but when he was there, he was always double teamed
with Hill no longer there, Kelce is routinely double teamed

For every Nick Foles example there are hundreds of examples to the contrary. 1 exception is not evidence.

Like Brady being drafted in the 6th round means the Pats made a mistake drafting Maye. Obviously they should have been looking on day 3 because Brady. Lololol

The Chiefs ran the ball and played defense, they haven’t had a #1 the last two years.

The definition now includes old TE’s… laughable.

Excuses… dance.

This ^ is the big mystery… nobody can define it.

But they’re positive we don’t have one…
It can be defined, but then we'll all argue about the definition. But here are some criteria:

* Primary target

* Team stat leader

* Good hands

* Runs great routes

* Great physical traits (size, speed, quickness or strength), hopefully more than one

* Can line up anywhere

* Opponent's best CB covers them

* Consistent

Cue all the examples of number ones that don't meet the criteria above. Intangibles are important too. I don't know if we have a #1, and I'm not sure if we find out this season given the QB situation.
