Who Is Our 3rd Starting Corner And Who Is the Backup Outside

Jon Jones and Marcus Jones will come in handy when you play the Dolphins, Tyreek and Waddle are as small as these CB’s are.

Also Jon Jones did pretty well outside, why, because he has old man strength… he’s strong. Ideally you want him or Marcus inside matched up against those lightning quick slot guys that taller CB’s struggle with.

Gonzalez and Marco Wilson are their two best outside CB’s, if the coaches don’t recognize that immediately they’re fools… but ultimately they should play matchups depending on opponent.

I think that if the kids dont show enough, they may want an older vet to come in and help settle down the back end. Losing the DB coach may affect some of the cohesion back there.
We still have pelligrino he's the best CB coach in the business. I think these guys all got better last season.. most of them have been with the team for a while Wade In particular. I believe mayo and covington are content with who they have.. however I'm still open to them adding a veteran in camp.

Wilson would be a nice STs, back up option if the starter Austin went down but he's likely buried behind Wade, bolden and dial.

Austin was floating around on the waiver wire while Wilson was starting in Arizona.

I get that we all have binkies but don’t be absurd.

Well he showed the staff enough in his short time for covington to have him opposite gonzo. So we'll see.. how everything goes as camp goes along

They literally had nobody else last year, injuries forced them to search through the scrap heap. This is a new season.

Q1) so, you're saying that Austin and Marco Wilson were signed and played as scrap heap players since no one else was available?

Q2) Is Marco Jones our 3rd best corner and able to start at nickel back. If so, the Jon Jones is our starter outside.

To be clear, you are saying that Marco Wilson is a better outside cornerback than Jon Jones?

The difference between 5'8" and 5'9" makes little difference at nickel back, Marcus could start at nickel. Personally, I don't thin we are ready to start Marcus Jones at nickel.

There is no evidence to show Wilson had done anything to warrant a spot over bolden, Wade, or even dial at this point.

True. But Wilson I don't recall even made the field? Or did he? I dont know anything about Wilson so I'm open. If he shows in camp then he'll be in the mix to be the 2nd guy opposite Gonzo.

Wilson started 37 games at either CB1 or CB2 in Arizona and is just 25 yo. He had 3 INT’s and 10 PD’s in 2022. The other guys you mentioned don’t even have 3/10 for career totals. He’s 6’ 195 lbs.

I’m not saying he will be the starter at CB2 but at this time he’s the best we have there with J. Jones at CB3.

Marco Wilson was cut by Arizona’s new regime and wasn’t available to play for NE until the final game of the season. He was a former starter who was disenchanted with the direction of the new regime so they set him free.

Austin was a practice squad player cut from the practice squad in Buffalo, then Houston. He joined the Patriots midseason and was pulled into duty because of injuries… desperation. He played fairly well.

I said Jon Jones played well outside and specifically said why, he is strong and experienced.

If they want to play their best players they should start Gonzalez and Wilson outside, use Jon Jones in the slot and rotate Marcus and whomever emerges as the next best “big” CB. Be it Bolden, Austin, Dial or whomever.

Marco Wilson benched it 26 times at the Florida pro day, he is stupid strong for a CB. He is also the next best athlete at CB having exceptional measurables across the board. He is a Ferrari, Austin is a Kia.

Thank you for that information. Wozzy has been infatuated with him. My question is? Why hasn't covington inserted him into the spot opposite gonzo? Thus far that guy has been Austin. Trust me I want anyone of our guys that can play that spot to have it. But until we see different it's Austin.

Wilson has been a starter in the NFL for a while…so maybe they know what they have with him to a degree and don’t with the other players. Coaches do that at all positions to know what they have.

It’s July. Let’s see what happens in September.

Oh definitely agree. As I said im open to seeing him and all the guys playing.. if the Jones boys are still sideline I expect dial and the other CBs to have an increase opportunity.

The coaching staff knows more about these men than we could ever post about. I like to look at who's in the lineup whenever a defensive unit takes the field. Who you see Starting tells us as fans what the coaching staff feels is the best match ups to have. Personally I don't care if it's Wilson, Austin, Wade.. I just want a big physical CB opposite Gonzo. Having 2 press man physical CBs on the outside limits what an offense can do.

So, based on one game, you think that Wilson is a better choice than Jon Jones? I suspect that the tem doesn't agree or he might have been playing more in minicamp opposite Gonzo, Certainly he needs the reps. But perhaps he such a good veteran that he doesn't need reps.

Wilson was a starter through 11 games and then wasn't brought back from IR. I guess that they changed systems and he was now no longer good enough to be a backup.

Based on Wilson starting 37 games in Arizona at CB1 and CB2, had 3 INT’s and 10 pass deflections in 2022, is 6’ 195 lb who is a very good athlete and is just 25 yrs old. Having multiple seasons as a starter is not considered a bad thing.

Regarding J. Jones at CB3…is the OL better as a unit with Onwenu at RT or RG?
