RUMOR: Patriots and Judon not close on deal

I would let him play out his current contract. He is on the wrong side of 30 and his play can decline quickly. IMO, he would have more value if we were a playoff contender. I also wouldn't hesitate to trade him for a fair value player/pick.
Don't know if it's a rumor or true but it's said: "Judon won't play on his current contract". Don't shoot the messenger.

Thanks for the info. I may add some incentives to his current contract but wouldn't pay him guarranted money especially coming off an injury. I would also be fine trading him for a draft pick.

The thing is unlike MLB when they break a fingernail and can't play.. NFL, NHL players guaranteed contracts are everything to them as you aware. He's been our best player the past few seasons. I believe wolf gives him a nice bump this season and see what happens in the offseason. I mean the money isn't an issue here.

I am in the you signed the contract then honor it.
His skills declined in 2023 ... doubt they improve.
We're not making the playoffs ... I trust Wolfe on this one.

Petulant Judon can ride the bike in training camp.
I don't think anyone would say the D is better with out Judon
I would think players like Barmore, Wise, Uche, Jennings would be better players with Judon on the field.
How much would you go?
I have posted a scenario that is far as I would go..

turn his salary to a sign bonus ($8m) and pay him another $8m this year guaranteed. Judon realizes $16m this year, guaranteed
pay him $8m next year, which guarantees March 1 2025
If Judon plays well he will see 2/$24 rather than his current 1/$8m

2 million bump for this year at 16 million is not bad.

Didn't read the whole thread, but did anyone point out his contract was very front end laden.
In other words, Judon conveniently forgetting how much money he got up front and the fact is...he already got paid.

Offer him a couple extra mil incentive-based on playing time and let him marinate.
He's older and becoming an injury risk.

Don't they fine heavily for holdouts?

everything you posted is true
the Pats hold leverage here
that said, the team is better off with a happy (and healthy) Judon on the field
how do they get him on the field at proper value as they try to hold their budget for 2 years down the road when they are ready to really compete, and Judon will be off the roster

I doubt that his skills improve too, but what he still has left in his tank (imo) will continue to be a positive for the defense,
at least this year. I'm 100% for honoring contracts, but this is the NFL, where they play magic tricks with money that could rival the
best magic acts in Vegas. Within reason, it would be very good to keep him.

there is way to "honor his contract" and redo his deal at the same time
adding another year, or adding incentives to his current deal, is accomplishing both
how to get there making both sides happy?

This conversation is 2 fold when it comes to individuals especially ones on my favorite team as I believe in team first and what's best for the team.

But in the bigger perspective I am for anything that pushes more money from the owners to the players. And guys in Judon's spot shouldn't be shamed for not honoring a contract and they should go after as much as they can while they still can.

is pushing money towards the players from the owners more important than winning?
for us season tix holders, and fans that watch every away game (attending some as well) we want to win this year, but also field a playoff team once Maye is ready. having money tied up in players not earning their money (thru on the field play or thru dead money) will only hurt winning.
finding some common ground at 2 years is very doable. even 3 years with out guaranteed money is doable.
the player gets more money now, some security next year, and if he plays well that 3rd year.
if the team takes that step, the player needs to meet somewhere in the middle as well.
as Judon himself said, "ya feel me bro?"

Same answer pretty much I obviously want my team to do the smart thing but I also try to keep the other part in mind as not to begrudge the individual.

So he was IR'd after 3 games and that's your explanation, his skills declined. That's like saying, "Great-Grandma Icy never comes to visit us anymore, she doesn't love us, and I don't care if it's because she's been dead for 15 years, she could at least make an effort." I trust the after-life on this one.

You're a hard-marker.
