Adam Seward

June 15 is a very special day at PatFans.com because it is the birthday of a most legendary player on this forum - yet one who was never part of the Patriot organization.

Happy 42nd birthday to Adam Seward
Born June 15, 1982 in Champaign, Illinois
NFL ILB, 2005-2009; uniform #59

Adam Seward was misfit in Carolina's 4-3 defense, and visited New England as a restricted free agent in 2008. Seward felt he would fit in nicely to the Patriots 3-4, and it appeared that the asking price (a 5th round draft pick) would make him a great addition. The Pats had just drafted Jerod Mayo, but the rest of the starting linebacking corps was all on the wrong side of 30. Others saw Seward's lack of playing time (just two starts, stuck behind Dan Morgan and Jon Beason) as evidence that he was nothing more than Monty Beisel v2.0. The Pats did not sign Seward to an offer sheet and instead headed in to camp with Bo Ruud, Victor Hobson, Eric Alexander and Vince Redd as backups to Mayo and Tedy Bruschi.

The real story of course is the epic debate on this forum that Seward's visit sparked. That topic was reactivated a year later when he became an unrestricted free agent (Seward ended up signing with the Colts). Just as every season some player will be Ventroned, in every off season some free agent will become the next Adam Seward.

Seward himself openly wanted to play for the Patriots, much to the chagrin of this columnist from North Carolina:

Aug 12, 2008 - Seward disappointed Patriots never offered | Rock Hill Herald
It was April when Carolina Panthers linebacker Adam Seward went to Boston for a job interview.

Monday afternoon, it sounded like he was still there lobbying.

Seward was disappointed New England never made an offer sheet, calling it a "tremendous honor," to even be considered by the Patriots. He also mentioned that he was a better fit inside the New England 3-4 defense than the Panthers' 4-3 system, and that it was frustrating being "stuck behind first-round picks" Dan Morgan and Jon Beason since arriving in 2005.
But he loves it here. No, really.
Seward made one of the plays of the night in Saturday's preseason opening win over Indianapolis, jumping a pass to the flat for a first-quarter interception. As much as it showed the depth the Panthers have on defense (he was one of five replacement starters), it also might have been among his last highlights here. They got starting middle linebacker Jon Beason back on the practice field Monday morning, and they're also pleased with the progress shown by rookie Dan Connor.
So it might not have been the best time to pine away for the girl who almost asked you to the prom.
New England would have had to give up a fifth-round pick to sign him (assuming the Panthers didn't match), and eventually chose not to. Seward's now under contract to the Panthers through this season, after which he'll become an unrestricted free agent, able to sign anywhere.
"It was interesting," he said. "Being here for three years and playing hard, it was kind of crazy to see a team like New England, who everybody views as the gurus of scouting, who do such a great job of bringing in late-round picks and free agents and turning them into superstars. So when they came calling, it was a tremendous honor, even though things didn't work out."
Seward spoke of the "complicated" nature of restricted free agency and said it was gratifying to him that after starting just two regular-season games in three years, one of the top teams would call.
"One thing I did leave there knowing was that they were very interested in me and thought very highly of me," he said. "I was trying to keep things in perspective, but it's weird playing special teams here for three years, and being told indirectly that's your role on this team, and then having a team say, 'Hey, we've seen your preseason film of you starting. You've come in in the regular season when guys have gotten hurt and played well, and then special teams, you've been a monster, and we think you have starting potential.'
"It was great (to have the interest). Any team in general, especially the Patriots. It just seems that every year, they do something, some way, to win games."
As if Seward didn't do enough to alienate his current employer, he kept talking.
The 250-pounder is bigger than most of the Panthers' middle linebackers (Beason's 237 and Connor's 231), and said he thought he'd be better served playing in a 3-4 system. He referred to New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who was deemed too slight to play 3-4 for the Jets before they traded him south.
"Coming into the draft, 3-4 teams were what my agent and me were looking toward," Seward said. "Most of our linebackers are 230 pounds, and I'm 250, 255 pounds. And when you're that big, taking on blocks and being inside is a better fit than playing in a Tampa-2 defense and running downfield. I still feel I can do it. I had a great 40 time coming out in the draft, and still feel when I move on that field I move as well as anybody.
"But 3-4, 4-3, ... I think I fit well in both schemes, but being a bigger linebacker, I feel like I have more value in a 3-4, because you can't just plug in a smaller linebacker."
They also drafted Seward's eventual replacement in Connor, a guy they weren't expecting to be there in the third round. Seward laughed about the acquisition, with the realization it made him a short-time player here at best.
"We kind of joked about that (prior to the draft), we have 11 linebackers, and they'll probably draft a linebacker in the first three rounds and sure enough they did," Seward said. "You can't fault the Panthers for that. He's a great value pick, and he's a great linebacker, too. Any time you get a guy like that in the third round, I'd have done the same thing.
"It's competition. It makes people better."
His comments about the Patriots obscured the fact he played so well Saturday, ably directing the defense to a strong first quarter against Indianapolis. They're glad to have him for that ability, since past years have gone to heck when Morgan was injured. He actually got his chance in 2006 when Morgan suffered a concussion, but was eventually replaced that year by Chris Draft.

Retired NFL linebacker Adam Seward was arrested early Tuesday in Las Vegas in connection with a hit-and-run crash, jail and court records show.
A fresh blood trail helped Las Vegas police officers identify and locate Seward after the crash, which occurred around 11:40 p.m. Monday near Sahara Avenue and Town Center Drive, according to his arrest report.
He faces a felony charge of failure to stop at the scene of a crash, court records show, as well as misdemeanor charges of failure to maintain lane and speeding.
Seward’s attorney, Josh Tomsheck, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Friday that his client left the site of the single-vehicle crash and “immediately drove the alleged victim to the nearest hospital at her request.”
“Thereafter,” Tomsheck added, “Mr. Seward cooperated with law enforcement in their investigation. We trust the legal process to do its job and look forward to the full facts and circumstances of this incident coming to light through the court system.”
On the night of the crash, a witness called 911 and reported seeing a Jeep hit a pole in the area before taking off south on Town Center. According to the report, the witness followed the Jeep, which eventually parked in a private driveway behind a nearby middle school.
When Las Vegas police arrived at the middle school, they found an unoccupied Jeep “with major damage” and “a large amount of blood” on the passenger side.
“The blood was on the seat, the seatbelt, as well as the on the door panels,” an officer wrote in the arrest report. “It was also smeared as if someone was helped across the center console and out the driver side of the vehicle.”
Officers followed a blood trail from the Jeep to a nearby apartment complex, where, according to the report, they found the driver.
“You guys are here for me,” the driver told officers, the report states. “My Jeep is on the other street.”
Once in custody, according to the report, the driver told police that he had lost control of his Jeep while trying to make a left turn from Sahara onto Town Center. After the crash, he said, he drove toward his apartment but only made it to the private driveway near the middle school.
From there, according to the report, he and his passenger — a woman he had met earlier that evening — walked to his other car in the apartment complex, leaving behind a trail of blood.
The man drove the woman to Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center. Police said she suffered “severe head and face injuries” and was later transferred to University Medical Center.

“Seward stated he knew he should have waited for police on scene,” the report states.

Court records show that Seward has been released from custody on his own recognizance under the condition that he does not drive “until further order of the court.”

Police found a cell phone case with a woman's driver's license inside, and a canvas of local hospitals flagged a woman with the same who checked into Spring Valley Hospital.
The woman told officers she met a man identified as Seward, but that she did not remember much of the evening. Hospital staff told police she suffered multiple cuts to her head and face, a chipped tooth and hearing damage in her right ear.
Police eventually found Seward and took him into custody, confirming he was the registered owner of the Jeep.
During an interview, Seward said he was driving the Jeep when it crashed, according to the arrest report.
He said he lost control on the wet road while making a turn, and the car struck the pole. He parked the Jeep and took the woman to his apartment, and they left in his other car for the hospital.

Could Adam Seward be Kramer's cousin?

He was this board’s meme before memes were a thing! Such an oddly funny ongoing joke.

He was this board’s meme before memes were a thing! Such an oddly funny ongoing joke.
The jokes were incredible.
I miss those days.
I remember how desperate we were that he would come and save the pass rush,
We also had high hopes for when Monty Biesel came.
I remember one poster showing his broken nose as proof Monty could stop the run.

Adam Seward will go down in history as the greatest Patriots player to never to be... ya know... a Patriots player.

I propose to Ian that in the same vein as the Patriots retiring number 12 for Brady that the Patsfans message board retires #59 in honor of Seward.

I'm sure the Pats thought they would get something out of Victor Hobson as one of the reasons perhaps that they never signed Seward. Unfortunately, the Jete Stank was very, very powerful in him: Not only didn't he make the 53, but he also played only 3 games during 2008, his last year in the league, for two different teams.... Now that's a Cliff.

Jonathan Freeny

Happy 35th birthday to Jonathan Freeny
Born June 15, 1989 in Margate, Florida
Patriot LB, 2015 - 2017; uniform #55
Signed as an unrestricted free agent on March 12, 2015
Signed again as a free agent on Dec 6, 2017

Jonathan Freeny spent four seasons with Miami (the first year on the practice squad) before being signed by New England as a free agent. The Rutgers alum who had played for Greg Schiano (imagine that!) appeared in the first 13 games of 2015 before missing the last three with a hand injury, then played in both playoff games. In late August of 2016 Freeny was given a healthy two-year contract extension that raised some eyebrows, questioning if he was overpaid. He played in five games with four starts before going on IR with a shoulder injury.

In 2015 Freeny was on the field for 389 defensive snaps (36%, 14th) and 249 special teams snaps (51%, 6th). In his limited 2016 playing time Freeny had 97 defensive snaps and 49 special teams snaps - though he did earn a ring from Super Bowl LI versus the Falcons. His salary of $1,000,000 may well have played a role in his being cut at the end of 2017 training camp. Freeny bounced around the league in '17, spending time with Baltimore and Jacksonville. Freeny returned to New England for one December game, filling an open roster spot available when Rob Gronkowski was suspended for one game for a late hit against Buffalo.

After being claimed off waivers he played in one final NFL game for the Saints. Matt Patricia signed Freeny in the 2018 offseason, but he did not make the final roster for Detroit. Jonathan Freeny played in 68 regular season games over seven seasons in the NFL, which included 19 games with Pats; all eleven of his starts were with New England. He also played in four playoff games, two each with the Patriots and the Saints.

Freeny is another Belichick favorite who was worked his way from being a STs standout to a Week 1 starter last season before an injury landed him on IR. Freeny counts only $1.7 million against the cap this season but could find himself replaced by one or both of the younger guys. Something is going to have to give here. All three and probably two will not make the cut. This will be one of those “tough decisions” that Belichick and the staff will have to make.

Nate Jones
And other June 15 Birthdays

Happy 42nd birthday to Nate Jones
Born June 15, 1982 in Newark
Patriot safety, 2011; uniform #23
Signed as a free agent on November 30, 2011

Yet another Rutgers/Greg Schiano alum, Nate Jones was 29 and in his eighth NFL season when the Pats signed him at the end of November 2011. He played in the final five games of the season with one start, and also in the 23-20 playoff victory over the Ravens. That turned out to be the final NFL games for Jones - as a player.

Dec 9, 2011:
Four days after Jones signed with the Patriots, he started at safety in last Sunday’s 31-24 victory over the Colts. Jones finished with nine tackles, playing a significant amount of snaps.

The Patriots went with a few new faces against the Colts, with receiver Matthew Slater making his first NFL start at safety, and Nick McDonald earning his first start NFL start at center. But Jones was unique in that he had days to learn his responsibilities in a new system.

“I thought Nate did a good job,’’ said coach Bill Belichick. “I mean, he wasn’t even familiar with what we were doing, so he had a steeper learning curve, but he’s a more experienced player, so there’s a trade-off there. [He] played the defenses pretty well, was good in communication, got his hands on a couple balls, made a few plays. It was far from perfect, but I thought he did a good job.’’

There was plenty for the Patriots to like about Jones, who was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round in 2004 out of Rutgers. His introduction to the NFL came under the guidance of Bill Parcells.

Nov 30, 2011:
The Patriots brought in veteran cornerback Nate Jones Wednesday, one day after releasing Phillip Adams. So what can Jones provide that Adams couldn't? Versatility jumps out while examining his career contributions.

Nov 30, 2011:
Jones, 29, has played with Dallas (2004-07), Miami (2008-09, 11) and Denver (2010). He originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick by Dallas (205th overall) out of Rutgers in 2004. Jones, 5-10, 185 pounds, has played in 101 games with 10 starts and has 163 total tackles, 6.0 sacks, three interceptions and 59 special teams tackles. Jones has also played in three postseason games, two with Dallas and one with Miami.

The Patriots did not re-sign Jones following the 2011 season. Since then he worked as a college referee, and began officiating NFL games in 2019. Jones has been a field judge (#33 on your scorecard) as part of Carl Cheffers' crew. Jones' day job is a firefighter/EMT for the Saranac Lake Fire Department in upstate northeastern New York.

April 17, 2019:

Jones, from the Pac-12 Conference, and Killens, from the American Athletic Conference, are former NFL players, become the third and fourth active NFL officials to have NFL playing experience along with Steve Freeman and Phil McKinnely. Jones played as a defensive back for the Cowboys, Dolphins, Broncos, and Patriots from 2004 to 2011 (video) and was active, but did not play in, Super Bowl XLVI.

Happy 50th birthday to Mike Flynn
Born June 15, 1974 in Doylestown, PA
Patriot C/G, 2008 offseason
Signed as a free agent on August 21, 2008

The Agawam native went to Springfield Cathedral High School and the University of Maine. He played center played in 142 games for the Baltimore Ravens from 1998 to 2007, all after having previously been released by Baltimore, and been on the practice squads for Tampa Bay and Jacksonville. His stay with the Pats was short; he was waived nine days later, the final stop in his NFL career.

Flynn, who played for UMaine from 1992-96, was an offensive guard and tackle for the Black Bears. Following his stint at UMaine, Flynn enjoyed an 11 year National Football League (NFL) career, highlighted by a Super Bowl championship in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens.
"Mike Flynn's accomplishments at the University of Maine and in the NFL speak for themselves," said former UMaine football head coach, Jack Cosgrove. "Flynn made a career out of showing those who thought he couldn't, that he could. His achievements at the highest level of our game are impressive. His NFL career remains the longest of any Black Bear and he still holds the distinction of being the only Black Bear to start in and win a Super Bowl."
While at UMaine, Flynn, a four-year letterwinner, earned All-Yankee Conference first-team honors as a senior and was a third-team honoree in 1995. Flynn, a captain and four-year starter, was honored by the Black Bears as the 1996 Sam Sezak Outstanding Offensive Lineman.
"My time at UMaine was probably the most enjoyable in my football career," Flynn added. "I was young and very raw in terms of my football ability. I was lucky to have coaches in Jack Cosgrove, Joe Gilbert and Kirk Ferentz who understood the game and had the ability to teach the game. Most of what I learned at UMaine carried me through my pro career."
After his collegiate career, Flynn signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 1997 as an undrafted free agent. After brief stints with Tampa Bay and Jacksonville, he re-signed with Baltimore and made his NFL debut in 1998. Two years later, Flynn was the starting right guard for the Super Bowl XXXV champion Ravens. He shifted to the center position where he played through the 2007 season. He was picked up by the New England Patriots in 2008 but was released before the season, retiring from football soon after. In all, Flynn appeared in 134 games with 115 starts at the NFL level.
Flynn grew up in Agawam, Mass. and attended Cathedral high school in Springfield, Mass. Currently, Flynn co-hosts "Johnston and Flynn", a weekend radio show on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston and also is a contributor on Comcast SportsNet New England. He and his wife, Mary, are the proud parents of four boys; Jake, Joe, Mike and Patrick.

One draft day trade connection:

- Brett Hundley, 31 (June 15, 1993)
Draft trade
The Arizona QB was selected in the fifth round (#147 overall) of the 2015 draft by Green Bay, out of UCLA.

May 1, 2015: Traded by Browns as 2015 5th round pick (147th overall) with 2015 4th round pick (111th overall, Tre' Jackson) and 2015 6th round pick (202nd overall, A.J. Derby) to Patriots for 2015 3rd round pick (96th overall, Xavier Cooper) and 2015 7th round pick (219th overall, Hayes Pullard)

May 2, 2015: Traded by Patriots as 2015 5th round pick (147th overall) to Packers for 2015 5th round pick (166th overall, Joe Cardona) and 2015 7th round pick (247th overall, Darryl Roberts)

Pro football players born on this date with New England area connections:

- Jack Rizzo, 75 (June 15, 1949)
Born in Boston, Jack grew up in Weston, went to Weston High School and also Kimball Union Academy in Meriden NH.
The running back played for the CFL's Ottawa Rough Riders in 1972, the New York Giants in '73, and for Houston and Shreveport in the WFL in '74.

- Leo Stasica (6/15/16-9/23/82)
Boston Yanks
The all-purpose back was a third round pick in the 1941 draft. For the 1944 Boston Yanks he completed 21 passes and also had two punts, three kick returns, three punt returns, and an interception.

Other NFL players born today include draft busts Jake Locker (8th overall) and Curtis Enis (5th overall).

On the other end of the spectrum there are these two guys:
- Cooper Kupp, 31 (June 15, 1993)
The Rams Pro Bowl WR already ranks 51st for most receiving touchdowns in NFL history.

- Johnny Sample (1936-2005)
The safety is most well known for being part of the Jets defense that held Baltimore to seven points in Super Bowl 3. He had the distinction of beginning and ending his career with championship wins in two of the most famous games in professional football history, and winning an NFL championship, an AFL championship, and a world championship.

In his rookie season, Sample won an NFL championship ring with the Colts in their victory over the New York Giants in the overtime 1958 NFL Championship Game, which became known as "The Greatest Game Ever Played".

In his final season, he helped the Jets win the AFL Championship against the Oakland Raiders, and then to defeat the Colts in the third AFL-NFL World Championship (later known as Super Bowl III) in January 1969, recording an interception in the Jets' 16–7 win. He is the only professional football player to have won all three: an NFL, AFL, and Super Bowl championship.

In between, Sample won another championship in the 1959 NFL Championship Game, scoring a touchdown on a 42-yard interception return in the Colts' 31–16 victory over the Giants.

[indentThe Patriots waived rookies Travis Conway, a long snapper, and Mike Lorenz, an offensive tackle, yesterday.

Both players were signed as undrafted rookie free agents on April 29 by the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.

Conway, 23, attended Virginia Tech, where he served as the Hokies' long snapper on punts in 2001, '03 and '04. The 6-foot-5, 252-pounder is a native of Richmond, Va.

Lorenz, 23, attended the Wisconsin, where he played in 35 career games (16 starts). The 6-5, 316-pound tackle from Manitowoc, Wisc., was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection for the Badgers.[/indent]

Lorenz is now the principal of Atlantic Collegiate Academy, a charter high school in Myrtle Beach.
Mike Lorenz - Principal - Staff Directory - Atlantic Collegiate Academy
The driving force behind the newest school in Horry County is Mike Lorenz. His vision for what Atlantic Collegiate Academy can be combined with his passion for building the kind of school parents, students and staff will be proud of have driven him since the first day he accepted the challenge of founding the school.
Lorenz became a starter by his third year in Madison, but he was prouder of his accomplishments in school than those that came on the field.
"Wisconsin takes care of their athletes," Lorenz said. "I had a tutor who helped me overcome by dyslexia to be named Academic All-Big Ten."
Following graduation from Wisconsin, Lorenz got a taste of life in the NFL, spending time in camp with the New England Patriots in 2005 before getting cut just before the start of the season. He quickly turned his attention back toward his education. His experience lit a fire in him to want to give back.
"It's ironic with my dyslexia, and how hard I struggled in school, but I wanted to give back and go into teaching."
With a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Wisconsin, Lorenz earned a Post Baccalaureate from Concordia University in Madison in 2007 before attending Lesley University in Boston, earning a Master in Technology Education in 2010.

June 15, 2001:
Akbar, 20, started every game at safety for the University of Washington in 2000, and helped boost the Huskies to an 11-1 record and a No. — ranking in season-ending college polls.
The 6-foot, 210-pound Akbar posted 97 tackles, including five for losses, and had two interceptions.
The Riverside, Calif. native started his last 26 games, and finished his collegiate career with 225 tackles, including 123 solo stops and eight tackles for losses.

The New England Patriots reportedly signed fifth-round draft choice Hakim Akbar to a two-year contract, making him the first of the Class of 2001 to ink a deal with the team.
According to the Boston Globe, the contract is reportedly worth close to $600,000 and includes a signing bonus of around $75,000. The 20-year old from the University of Washington did not attend the team’s three-day minicamp earlier this month because he was still attending classes.
He is considered to be a hard-hitting safety similar to teammate Lawyer Milloy, although many scouts felt he was a little too aggressive. Some of those same scouts however felt that a good coaching staff may be able to turn him into a Pro Bowl-caliber safety.
Last season Akbar was an All-American first-team selection by The NFL Draft Report and CNN/Sports Illustrated, adding honorable mention from College Football News. He was also an All-Pac 10 Conference first-team choice.
Akbar lined up at strong safety for the first eight games last year before shifting to free safety when his teammate Curtis Williams suffered a career-ending spinal cord injury. He led the team with 97 tackles (54 solos), including five stops for losses of 16 yards. He also intercepted two passes for 31 yards in returns and deflected six others. He Also recovered a pair of fumbles.

Hakim Akbar played in six games on special teams for the 2001 Patriots. In November he was driving home after socializing with teammates. He claimed that he fell asleep at the wheel and woke up to find he was speeding down the interstate, going at least 80 mph. His Cadillac Escalade went off the road, and Akbar - who was not wearing a seat belt - went through the sunroof. As a result of the accident he suffered three fractured vertebrae, broken ribs and an injured hip and shoulder. Due to his injuries he spent a month in the hospital, eating through an IV. Police said that alcohol was not involved, but he was charged with driving with the intent to endanger, among other offenses.

Due to the severity of his injuries, a doctor told Akbar he would never play football again. However, three months after the accident, he was once again working out, preparing to make his way back. He received a ring for Super Bowl 36, though he obviously did not play in any games that season after the accident. The Pats released Akbar the following spring. He miraculously played in four games for the Rams in 2002, and also bounced between the Texans, Bucs, Jaguars, NFL Europe and Calgary in the CFL from 2002 to 2006.

June 15, 1998:
New England signs second round draft pick Rod Rutledge

The tight end from Alabama had what appears to be a relatively non-descript career. 63 games (31 starts) over four seasons with the Patriots. 27 receptions, 204 yards, one TD. Seven more games with Houston, and that was his NFL career. Sounds like a typical draft bust.

But besides getting a ring in his final season with the Patriots, Rutledge is the answer to the mother of all TB12 trivia questions:

"What player caught Tom Brady's first NFL pass?"

It happened in Tom's only appearance in his rookie season, a garbage time fourth quarter play in a 34-9 loss to Charlie Batch and Detroit in the Pontiac Silverdome, the early game on Thanksgiving Day. On 3rd-and-ten with 3:47 to play, Rutledge caught a six-yard pass from Brady. (J.R. Redmond would have owned Rutledge's claim to fame with a 4-yard completion on the previous play, but it was called back due to Damien Woody being flagged for being ineligible downfield.)

June 15, 1993:
The Patriots release Leon Seals

"Dr Sack" was a defensive end who had played for Buffalo from 1987 to 1991 and then one year with Philadelphia. Seals was a starter for the Bills in their SB25 Scott Norwood Wide Right 20-19 loss to the Giants, and the following year's SB26 37-24 loss to Washington when Jim Kelly threw four picks, and Mark Rypien was the game's MVP.

Seals suffered a serious knee injury in week six of the 1992 season that resulted in his spending the rest of the year on IR. It was severe enough that the Patriots released Seals well ahead of training camp, and it ended his NFL career at the age of 28. Seals later became an officer in the Hinds County (Mississippi) Sheriff Department.

June 15, 1971
The Bay State New England Patriots signed four players that I was unable to unearth any information on. Considering this was the first full season under GM Upton Bell and the HC he wanted to fire, John Mazur, that lack of information is not surprising.
- Bob Reed, who may or may not have been a HB from the Continental League and Atlantic Coast Football League, and once played for the Vikings.
- Tim Fortney, who had been a 1,000-yard rushing RB at Miami of Ohio.
- Phil Skorignoli - all I could find was that he was waived on August 2.
- Billy Corman - found nothing on him.

This board has picked some random mediocre players they become obsessed with. Most recently were the 3 LB’s brought in for the 2022 season - Raekwon McMillan, Mack Wilson and 5th round draft pick Cameron McGrone. I remember many on this board bizarrely thought their problems at LB were solved.

On the Bubble: Elandon Roberts, Harvey Langi, Jonathan Freeny
Freeny is another Belichick favorite who was worked his way from being a STs standout to a Week 1 starter last season before an injury landed him on IR. Freeny counts only $1.7 million against the cap this season but could find himself replaced by one or both of the younger guys. Something is going to have to give here. All three and probably two will not make the cut. This will be one of those “tough decisions” that Belichick and the staff will have to make.
