If they’re truly only going to keep 3, I agree that it should go that way. However it seems like there’s merit in keeping 4.

The other tough piece for me here is that the quote says they want to get down to 3 guys “by the time training camp starts” - meaning Maye needs to be game ready before camp has started. If he’s not, then you can’t cut Zappe, but then that means you’re cutting Milton? It doesn’t fully add up.
I anticipate there will be zero takers for Zappe on the waiver wire just like last summer so it will be easy to put him on the PS if that's what they want to do. Milton ideally could start on the PS but I don't think he makes it through waivers.

This is wishful thinking to this point... we'll see.

The real test for all to see will be game management, if he can't handle that part of the job the whole world will see it including his players. We're all just assuming this will be a given, but managing the clock and knowing when to take timeouts or give your defense a rest is crucial.
What keeps getting lost is Mayo's a first time HC, not first time coach. He's had to do in game adjustments as a defensive coach. He has a good amount of coaches on his staff to help him along.. every coach will learn as they go along.. I still believe he's got the best formula to succeed and that is by having been around the best to ever do it.

Dunno. Part of the reason Zappe didn't get claimed last year was because of timing - he was released during the final cutdowns to the 53 man roster before Week 1. At that point camp was over and teams were getting ready to prep for their first real game. No time to bring in a new QB and teach him their offense. Additionally, a team would have had to release someone else from THEIR final 53 to claim him, and they may have been holding someone for an extra day to move them to IR, etc. A lot of moving parts on that day. If Zappe were to be released in-between OTAs and training camp, he may get claimed since there'd still be a decent bit of time to get him up to speed enough to be a backup, plus teams still have 90 man rosters.

Curran was saying that with Drake, Jacoby and Milton, Zapp doesn't even look like a. NFL QB compared to those guys at OTAs. Mayo wants 3 QBs as it eas reported. So I'm assuming Drake, Brissett, Milton.

He definitely has a lot of assistants, they have more coaches now than lights at Christmas time.

We’ll see how he handles the pressure on gameday and how he filters through the noise. I don’t think we can assume anything until we see it.

that may be true, but the Pats did bring in 2 QB's cut from other teams. neither worked out, but they did bring them in.
Zappe was out there and available to anyone

Yeah true. I'm just not as worried as maybe media pundits may be.. the guys been part of big games, big plays as a player and coach. I don't think the moment is to big for him.

Isn’t that what they said about every coach from the BB tree who got head coaching jobs too soon and failed?

Only 1 day of otas?

I was a big fan of Zappe early on and even last year up to a point….when I realized that he is not going to cut it in this league….too much good competition out there. I think he gets cut and it will be Brissett, Maye and Milton….which is the way it should shake out!
Like you mentioned Zapp showed some ability in stretches. Once he got extended opportunities he came back down to earth. I don't really know what his career projects to be... ,but the talent at the position particularly last season was so bad and he was part of it. I'm excited to see Drake develop

Just based on last year I think Sow is ahead of Mafi but Mafi was picked higher so maybe he makes the bigger leap year 2. And we also signed Leverett too.

I think we actually have some pretty good depth on the line this year. Still obviously a big question mark as to who the LT will be. But if we can get some cohesion at the other 4 spots I think we'll be ok.

Sow was picked in the 4th round, and Mafi in the 5th.

If Sow isn't our starting LG on Opening Day, I'll be very disappointed.
