The left side of the offensive line has to get fixed!!!
The offensive line, in general, has to get fixed, and is the top priority. I am very comfortable with all the position groups on offense, except the offensive line.

A moment of deep admiration and wishes that Dante Scarnecchia be elected to the NFL Hall of Fame. I hope he's an advisor to the new regime.

Anyway, the 8 (eight) new or not available offensive linemen is substantial:
  • Free agent Chuck Okorafor is the projected starter at LT and has a good history with the Steelers
  • OT Calvin Anderson whose story of recovery from Malaria was capably told in the Sunday Globe, is potentially a better tackle that Okorafor.
  • Rookies Caeden Wallace, Layden Robinson, Henry Zuri, and Charles Turner, III all have potential at more than one position.
  • Free agents G Nick Leverett, G Michael Jordan (my camp binkie for obvious reasons) have potential to make the roster.
The guys competing for jobs with the projected line of LT Okorafor, LG Strange, C D. Andrews, RG Sow, and RT Onwenu will make for an interesting camp and some tough decisions in August. Strange and Sow need to make big jumps to keep guys like Wallace and Anderson from taking their jobs. Okorafor has his hands full proving that he's best LT on this team.

I like the youth and versatility of the OL position group and feel like the only two guys that are a lock to start are David Andrews and Mike Onwenu. Everybody else is fighting for their jobs. The OL coach has a lot to prove as well, but certainly has a deep group to work with in his first year as the OL Coach of an NFL team.

I guess J. Andrews was a FA in 2023 if that’s what you mean. I think he is expected to replace D. Andrews probably more sooner than later. He played really well at G last year in limited reps.

Thank you. I will fix my previous post. I did not realize he played last year. That's another signal of how awful the team was last year and how my (our?) focus on promising players gets when the results are so bad. I guess it's a good thing if Jake Andrews showed enough in 2023 to be brought back in 2024. Good catch - I appreciate it.

Gibson said hello, and Polk & baker said they love Boston already.

They'll help, as will Jaheim Bell, but... We still need more dynamism in the backfield, and I wish the FO had dusted-off the Early Bird's purse strings and signed Tyler Boyd to complement KJ, Pop & the two rookies until Doghouse comes off PUP.

Agreed. Yeah bell projects to be in the mix as well. I'm very high on Gibson. If you get a chance go back and watch his work against us in that terrible offensive showing against Washington last season. He made our defense look silly at times. He's 6'2, former college WR, can run between the tackles, make guys miss in space, catch out the back field ,strong can hold blocks, run WR routes outside. He an rham are going to make a formidable duo. Polk & baker are just what the offense needed, and if these guys can become what I believe they will we will have a dangerous offense.

Four is plenty until Bourne is active. Only 4 would be active in any case. I suppose we could keep Reagor or Thornton on the 53 (and inactive) until Bourne is available.

Even if we could have gotten Boyd for $4.5M, I don't think that we need him as our 6th WR (5th until Bourne is off IR or PUP),

I would have no problem spending the cap money. I just don't think that we need six WR's unless one is on the roster as a returner.

With Marcus back as our primary returner. I can see a WR becoming expendable. Polk& baker are locks. So reagor is likely a cut candidate or PS designation. I don't know what juju will be. He may end up on PUP with KB so does that allow for another WR to make the 53?

Douglas, Osborne, Polk, Baker and Bourne on the PUP list. That's all we need to carry, since we won't have any more than 4 active.

If we want our backup for Bourne on the 53 until he comes back, then that man is likely to be either Reagor or Thornton. My guess is Thornton, who is an inexpensive poorly coached "prospect" as the #6 WR for this year and next. [I expect that Bolden will be our KR].

I see. Makes sense. Because we have Gibson who also lines up out wide in WR patterns so the 4 WR is fine. I really like the guys we have. Not a bad collection of skill guys. The key here is Polk and baker. They feel like game changers. KJ is also a factor here. He's another great route runner. Juju I'm not expecting anything from him to be honest.

What do you all think about Boutte? Any chance this is his year in a new offense or he will be a bust? Kid has so much talent but his attitude and poor decision making holds him back

In the first couple of games Boutte proved that he has the ability, just not the focus on the details. In a weird way Baker may be a good influence on him IF Baker really does work hard and does everything possible to be a successful receiver in the NFL. At a minimum it will take away any crutch that Boutte might create for himself about him not being successful because he is 'outgoing'.

I just believe it's immaturity. With slate being In the role with the team he'll have an immediate impact on helping Boutte on and off the field.

He's got talent, just need to mature.

If Boyd signed here, he would, like, Automatically become our #1 WR, never mind our #5/6.
