Fine with what we have at WR. Save the picks, Draft OT/QB and best players available in draft...See if QB works out and get WR help next year.

Too many holes to fill. I just dont see how you draft WR or give up draft assets without a QB and a line that can protect that QB.

Douglas/Bourne/Osborn/JuJu S-S, while not that exciting, is a good core WR group. IMO our lack of weapons has more to do with our inept OL and QB play. Give QBs time to throw the ball and the right guy to make plays I think our WR group can get open enough to move the ball. A better line will open up the run game as well, allowing for more play action (something that Van Pelt runs alot). Complimentary football...

We are in a rebuild. Its not going to happen overnight, use draft capital wisely and draft exciting young talent in year 1. Add some big signings in FA next year. There is a reason we couldn't sign any FA WRs.. we dont have a starting caliber QB as of right now.

A lot of what the Patriots need are the most expensive and most important positions in the modern NFL, in order: QB, OL, WR. #3 doesn't really matter until one of first two, if not both, are cemented. That goes for every team. Cost is premium, regardless of how good the FA class is. That's all the market is.

And we've seen how WR money can be wasted. You can nullify all the money you put in a receiver if you don't have QB/OL. JJSS is an example, Sanu is an example, etc. - you spend money when it makes sense.

Now if we were going thru this but with last year's FA class and we were the winners in the Rodgers Sweepstakes, then I'd want to see the aggressiveness big time.

Until we figure those two things out, I don't really know what burning cash is gonna do.

I'd be interested to see how many top-of-line WR hit the market now compared to 10 years ago. Feels like a prioritized re-sign asset now.

Do you know of any targets? I feel like each year I'm becoming less familiar with the WR's around the league. I picked Amon-Ra in fantasy this year with absolutely no knowledge of who he was lmao.

The closer we get to the draft, the less likely teams are to trade their picks this year for players. We're only a few weeks out. Once the draft passes, those picks are gone, and the next-soonest picks are next year's. I could see NE offering Cincinnati their 2025 2nd rounder for Higgins, and Cincinnati declining initially but eventually taking the offer as the draft gets closer.

Getting a WR1 without touching this year's picks would be a big win, since it'd allow them to use pick 34 on a tackle.

Just got finished seeing NFL live and in the short segment they on the Pats about the need for a #1 WR which they didn't get in FA. But during the same segment they ALSO acknowledged that the Pats do have a nice room of #2 and #3 type WR's. It got me to thinking.

Wasn't there a team a few years ago who had UNPRECEDENTED success over a 20 yr period where for 18 of those 20 years they did NOT have anyone who could be called a true #1 WR. For the life of me I just can't remember who that team was.

Seriously you would THINK that any fan of the Pats who lived through and watched that period that lasted for the first 2 decades of this century would appreciate more than most that spending large parts of your cap space and/or draft capital on WR's is NOT necessary to the total success of the ENTIRE football team.

It's not that I DON'T want elite WR's on the team, but they aren't necessary. They are a luxury. They are the people you go after when you are looking for the finishing piece of a team making a championship run. NOT when you beginning a total rebuild of your offense.

Let's get our LT future QB situation fixed before we spend large amounts of money on bringing in a so called #1 WR type. I would hope that we stabilize the OL, hopefully find our LT QB, build depth to an already good defense, and have enough cap space to bring in big name WR's in a MUCH better FA class next year.

Wow. Earth-shattering. Caplan doesn’t mention any details about those conversations. When did they occur? How in-depth were the discussions? They may have lasted all of two minutes, if the player was not available or the price was too high. This entire thread is based on a past tense nothing burger.

Don’t let the low number above GB fool you; they might very well have one of the top overall young WR rooms in football… And it’s not like they went “all-in” on the position during draft weekends either.

You fail to mention the Patriots had the GOAT at QB. You know, TB12, he who shall not be named? Tom Brady elevated the entire offense. We don't have that type of elite talent in the QB room anymore. To make a bunch of mediocre guys work on offense you need someone truly special.

And even Brady got better when he had better weapons around him. I remember how he lit it up for record breaking numbers with Moss and Welker. I remember how he reignited the 'second dynasty' with playmakers like Gronk and Edelman.

In today's NFL we're not getting far with a bunch of mid wide receivers. The paradigm has shifted to favor offense immensely by today's rules which makes impact wide receivers even more valuable than ever. It's time to move on from the past and dinosaur thinking. The Patriots need weapons and right now by objective measurements they are losing the 'arms race'.

Agree. But the new game is all about Monday morning highlights. It’s better to have flashy fast players and lose, than to have slow plodding players that win. Winning isn’t as impressive as fantasy points. I’m mean … isn’t it obvious ?

I don’t know if Fowler said anything about Aiyuk specifically. The guy who tweeted used that picture. There are other WRs who might be had in trade like Tee Higgins, Stefon Diggs, maybe DeAndre Swift or AJ Brown, Courtland Sutton. A lot of big name WRs are in the last year of their deals and their teams may not be willing to resign them next year. This is the year to trade them.
