Mac Jones 2024 support thread

Two things are true for me:

I don't want Jones

&

I don't want the Patriots making bad decisions just to avoid having Jones be the starter.

The second part may seem obvious but I think with what's on the table this offseason, from draft to FA, there's a lot of ways to completely **** up a transition if you try too hard and only focus on removing the issue that is Mac.

Mac had the #2 ranked defense in the NFL in 2021, he had one of the best offensive lines in the AFC, he had solid weapons... and he had an offensive coordinator referred to in the media as a "genius."

Mac went 1-4 after the bye week, he threw 7 interceptions and lost a fumble… had 8 turnovers in five games while completing about 60% of his passes for a measly 6.8 yards per attempt.

Once opponents had tape on Mac, and figured out his weaknesses and tendencies... he fell apart. This happened with a really good team around him. Nobody ruined Mac, he simply wasn't a good pro and that's who he was for the subsequent two years.

Trade him for a late round pick swap, and let us move on with our lives, draft someone new and try again. I swear I've been time warped back to the late 80's with Pat's fans telling me Tony Eason and Scott Secules are good QB's... they just need better weapons.

Stop sniffing glue...

Cosigned. I want a better QB next year. I don't them to do stupid things to avoid Jones if it makes the most sense for the team. A lot of people in another thread are talking about paying more for guys like Brissett and Mills who are negligible in comparison to him as a bridge QB when they could just keep Jones on the cheap and get the same results. That's wasting money just to avoid having Jones do the exact same thing as them when you don't want any of them next year and it's easier to get rid of Jones after.

Likewise, if we get Maye, I'm not all that interested in rushing him out on the field when he isn't ready and ruining him for the sake of Jones not getting play time.

Yeah if you can get Flacco on a good deal, sure. He's obviously a big step up that makes a difference and allows you to test out new additions for awhile. If you have a rookie who can start right away, sure go for it.

But they have to be smart and not do things in a LONGTERM rebuild for the sake of feeling good for a few weeks.

Nobody thinks he's a good QB. You have convinced yourself for years that the offense was good and the QB's were consistently the only problem and the reason why the team wasn't winning.

There's a reason Tom sucked in 2019 and you were higher on blaming him than the piece of crap offense we put together. There's a reason Cam fell apart in 2020 and why Hoyer and Stidham both sucked in the same offense. There's a reason why Zappe always played like dogshit and could never solidify himself as a better option. There's a reason the wide receivers and offensive lineman routinely grade out poorly in metrics that have nothing to do with the QB.

Nobody on the planet thinks he's the QB of the future. Most of us just have realized after 5 years of having an inept offense, two of which Mac wasn't part of and even when he was we got to see another QB play, that there are bigger issues.

There's a reason 5 QB's in the last 5 years looked bad in this offense. Until that is addressed you are just going to make it 6

People? What People?
People. People who need people...
..are the luuuuckiest people in the world....

I agree, Jones isn't good. However, that team wasn't good, as well.

Never said Patricia won a superbowl as an OC, Bill O did. Bill B won a bunch. Almost every single time Mac had a chance to win a big game he choked, every big moment. He was 2-8 last year Zappe was 2-5. Zappe's 2-5 were without the 2 best defensive players on the team, along with most of the wr's gone. If you are going to keep one of them, Zappe was much more of a player than Mac was, and he still isn't good.

Zappe had the same performance as Mac. Also you are ignoring Mac’s best game which was also a comeback win came without the two best defensive players as well

I got so many questions about this thread.

What will the OP do when Mac is cut or traded? Does he find a new player to obsess over? Do he follow Mac to his next team and annoy people on message boards for that team with endless Mac Jones posts and threads? Does he just end it all because he has no other purpose in life?

And sorry @Triumph I do this in jest. No hard feelings.

I hope in 5 years when Jayden Daniels or Drake Make has us in the Super Bowl we look back on the dark days of a quarterback room consisting of Mac, Zappe, and a dozen other practice squadders and laugh.
I don't think, Daniels or Drake make it to the Pats, not drafted by them.

Mac Jones will get his own thread like Tom Brady on this forum.

In 2021 the offense was good... Mac still tanked in the final third of the season. It wasn't his team.

Tom was dealing with two injuries in 2019, so by the time his line was starting to improve he was descending. This was well reported after the playoffs.

There's an entire new coaching staff in 2024, there's nobody to blame but the new guys. Let the past go.

They were good in 2021, Mac wasn't by season's end.

He became who we saw for the next two years after the bye week in week one.

Nobody ruined Mac, he simply wasn't good. He can pass but turns the ball over.

DNR, Mac cannot re-establish himself as a leader with the players. He needs to start fresh.
This is the real issue. He lost the respect of the locker room and that’s toothpaste/tube.

I believe he can turn it around, but highly unlikely that can be here.

PLUS…you def can’t count on him to mentor a young guy. Same with Zappe…in fact maybe even moreso.

Lay off the booze, it makes you wozzy

The offense sucked from top to botton. The WR's sucked, the QB sucked, the line sucked.

Sounds like Judon wants to roll with Mac. He wants to get him protection and offensive weapons.
