Schefter: Bill Belichick & Patriots to Part Ways

If the Patriots don't sign Onwenu, they are going to be in awful shape.

Sow did extremely well for a rookie and Strange is a lot better than this board makes out.

Andrews the younger by the way looked good; he's a load and not easily pushed back.

David Andrews said he's coming back in a press conference.
There is a good chance we are bad next season but sometimes you need to be bad before you are good again

The Patriots and Belichick will likely be interested in the same players, meaning players will be able to put them against each other financially.
If BB wants to be successful elsewhere he needs to be interested in a different sort of player on offense.

I will be rooting for Bill to succeed the same way I did with Brady. What a run it was and I hope he has some success wherever he lands (unless it's the Jets) because I really don't want to see his career end with a whimper.

Yeah, there's only a handful of teams that I would have a hard time rooting for him if he coached there, but none of them are likely to need a HC this offseason (Jets, Bills, Dolphins, Ravens, Colts). Steelers are the only ones really. If Tomlin steps down, and Bill goes there, that's going to be ROUGH. Any other team and I'll root for him so long as it doesn't hurt the Patriots directly.

There’s worse things than being poor ..
I don't want him in bad health or anything...

Being poor would give him perspective.

We've been bad for 4 years lol
To be fair we haven’t been bad for four years. Yeah we got blown out by Buffalo in the playoffs but 10-7 and a wildcard loss isn’t bad. We are the Patriots so have different expectations but we weren’t bad that year at least. Also, I don’t think we were bad the Cam Newton year either. With a better QB we were a playoff team. The last two years, I’ll give you. Especially this one.

I sure you meant “ don’t” … that’s not what I meant either. Without getting into semantics I’ve seen real poverty, and yet those people were the happiest I’ve ever seen. There are more unhappy rich people than there are miserable poor in my opinion.

I’d like to see him go to the Cowboys or another contender.
I hope he goes somewhere a little more ready made like Dallas or even LA (although it looks like a lot of that Chargers roster needs to be torn down) rather than a full rebuild like Carolina. I want to see him coaching in the playoffs next season.

Why do people keep bringing up Dallas as a place he will be sign with? I don’t see them giving up McCarthy.

If anything, McCarthy has a better track record in the last three years than Bill Belichick has.

The Jets are the only team I would actively root against him. I agree the Steelers would be tough if Tomlin does step down and also agree the rest of the group you mentioned has coaches that likely aren't going anywhere. At least Josh knows he has a job next year now lol.

Falcons just seem like a weird place for BB.
I can't see him representing the south, but who knows...
He'll definitely go wherever the ownership is the most solid and hands off - and that might be Atlanta (or Washington)

Someone mentioned that BB and Jerruh been friends since the 90s

What if Vrabel is at the press conference to congratulate Bill?

... and interview immediately after

This team is ****ed. The GM is supposed to hire the coach and Kraft has already made that decision.

Messing with football decisions is the definition of a bad owner.
Messing with the day-to-day minutiae of running a football team is what bad owners do.

Firing a general manager who has run this team into the ground is what good owners do.

I have asked the following question to several Belichick-krishnas and for some reason none of them answer it: If Belichick was owner of the team, do you think he would have fired the GM/HC who has gone from 10 to 8 to 4 wins?

And even if we kept Belichick next season, how long does he truly have left as a coach anyway? What? We win 7 games and we are in the same position for the season after.

They were horrendous that year after the bye.

So since Brady left, they had one successful run, which was the first 9 games of year 2.

Other than that it's all been the same.

Presuming this is true, this is good news. The sooner the better; move on, focus on the new hire, develop short and long term plans.

Rip the bandaid off.
