That is conjecture on my part. I don't believe the players are motivated to play for him or buying into the program. No one is taking pay cuts to stay here and the only big name vets we've gotten in the last few years we massively overpaid for. No one believes in the program anymore, they will try to win because they are pros, but i don't believe they will go the extra mile they would have to play for and with Bill in the past.
BB doesn't suck, he is just not the right coach for this team anymore. It needs a fullreset. He failed the rebuild and lost the locker room and has missed the draft. He is set in his ways here and it would be asking too much to tell him he can stay but he needs to give up the GM spot, lose any say on how the offense is handled and all that. Which is what would need to happen. It be a massive demotion. He's better off going somewhere fresh where he can try to get the rebuild right the first time and build credibility for those roles.
the biggest indictment on Belichick is going to be his record in one score games with/without Brady...to wit...in 2000 and the first two games of 01, Bill was 4-9 in such games...the rest of 01????? they were 7-1...what happened? if this trend is the same w Cleveland and now in his post Brady Pats endeavors then we'll have further proof it was mostly/all Brady bc Brady allowed Bill to have success w his Uber conservative style
Kraft would be stupid to let Bill go for nothing if all these reports are true about teams trying to get into a bidding war for him. Get something out of it.
I think what a lot of guys are missing is that the coaches work for the owners, and the owners will not want to set the precedent that coaches can set the terms of their own futures. The current precedent is that the team with the coach's rights allows the coach to go elsewhere and then the new team gives the old team compensation. The other 31 owners will not be happy with Kraft letting a new precedent be set and giving coaches new power.
Not good. He doesn't suck though. Is he perhaps not the GOAT coach we and many others believed him to be, I think that is fair to speculate on. Personally for me he has lost that title. Maybe if he had a better GM he wouldn't, but that is neither here nor there. He still is a HOF level coach, but my opinion on him is he can be an amazing or even the best coach under certain circumstances, but the GOAT coach should be able to do well in any circumstance, and if they are the GM and fail as a GM that needs to be held against them. But I won't say he sucks.
