If Bill goes, I'd wait til the new staff is in place and then evaluate. I think that NE just didn't know how to use him to an extent. Andy Reid and Mahomes made him perfectly effective. Sure, his knee is not great, but he can still be fine, I think. Not worth trying to eke out $1M in cap space. May as well just keep him at that point and see if the next offense can use him better. If the new staff also doesn't like him, maybe they can find a trade partner who will take him for a 7th and free up more room.

If Bill stays, yeah, just cut him as a 6/1 designation. No point. Pop took his job, it didn't work out.
I'm missing something. Should you give up $12M because a player isn't a #1 WR?

We have a DEAD CAP cost of $12M or so. The June 1st designation makes little difference, only that some other contract needs to move some cap money to 2025. The cost is the same: $12M of cap money for zero services.

FIRST
I'm 100% fine with trading him, even including a draft pick swap. There is a $12M advantage.

SECOND
Is Shuster really not worth keeping as our #4 WR at a cost of ZERO? Really?

It really seems to me that you want a guy who's going to recognize individual effort. That's never been Bill when it comes to day to day stuff. Day to day pressers to the beat guys?? T-E-A-M. All the QB's are playing well.... Meanwhile he's got Brady here, going to the HoF. (past tense, obviously).

His methods have not changed. Ever. Why are your expectations that he's going to change and tell you how great Mayo is? All the coaches are working hard to get ready for the Jets. We done? Good. That's been his M.O. forever.
That's just not accurate. He's been asked about individual players and praised their effort. It's rare but it's happened this season. Look it up if you don't believe me.

There's also the leak that Mayo is "rubbing ppl the wrong way" at Gillette. McCourty questioned that report as something that'll benefit someone else. IOW, there's a power play happening inside Gillette.

You guys are just triggered every time someone calls Bill out and bend over backwards to justify his asinine behaviour. You guys are naive to believe that everything is peachy in the "team team team" environment inside Gillete.

"Honestly, when that report came out, my brother sent it to me. It was more hurtful than anything," Mayo said Tuesday. "I found it to be -- well the timing of it was a little bit weird in my opinion. And if that was the case, I feel like this would have been leaked some time earlier."

I like Mayo, he's solid, straight forward and honest.

What does any of that have to do with how he treats the GD media?

I get it, you hate him. Can we move on? Jesus.
Nice way to deflect the results of like you said "he's not changing," which I agree with. Everything is peachy.

Let's get this out of the way... I do not think this is peachy keen and everyone is singing kumbaya. I think it's entirely possible the story was a Bill plant. He's due somewhere $20-25m, and wants it. He's not going to walk away from it, and he'll roll around in the mud to get it. I think there's a good chance that Kraft will take the high road and pay him to avoid a messy separation. I think the relationship between Belichick and the organization has a dollar amount value to Kraft, and he will look at it as such and no want to drag the organization thru a pile of crap to avoid paying it and further damaging the brand and reducing the equity there in.

Years ago, Kraft said, paraphrasing, that Bill was the biggest ******* in his life. I don't think they'll be going to dinner, having drinks, or going fishing on Bill's boat when it's done. In a ruthless business, Bill is as ruthless as there is. Kraft is too, but his franchise is worth billions because he was able to hold his nose and deal with Bill's ********. Kraft knows that he can damage the brand by ****ting the whole thing up here at the end. Bill, my guess is, doesn't care, because it's not his brand. He's Paulie in the Goodfellas. **** you, pay me. I think Kraft will try to smoothly separate and make this as painless as possible. I am not so sure about Jonathan, however.

My admiration of Bill is strictly limited to his x's and o's knowledge and how he managed the thing for an unprecedented 20 year run. There was no one better. That time has passed. I am not gonna get twisted because he says he's on to the Jets, because that's who he is. He doesn't give a **** about all the noise, he's getting ready for the Jets. When the game is over, then he will be on to the 2024 off season, and then we can see what happens.

You can see in my post that I understand your line of thinking and agree if Bill leaves, but if Bill stays I just don't think he'll be productive. Open a roster spot for another player and save a small amount of cap space with his release.

These takes are amusing. They praise Belichick for being focused at the task of preparing his team for the games regardless of their record. Yet, the team continues to make mistakes, penalties, TOs, etc., and continue to lose close games.

Bill says he hasn't changed the way he approaches the games. Yet, the team continues to make mistakes, penalties, TOs, etc., and continue to lose close games.

The message is clear. Bill isn't changing his ways and his ways are increasingly ineffective. He can no longer reach or coach up his team. Bill is ass. His team is ass.

Team needs to move on from Bill or face another season of a middling sub .500 performance. What is it going to take for people to open their eyes and realize Belichick is no longer a good HC. He can still scheme a good defense but so can a dozen other DCs out there. Keep Mayo as DC (with the title), find a young offensive minded HC and a GM with a track record or in a system that knows how to evaluate offensive players.

The future is bright as long as the team stops carrying Belichick. He's honestly dead weight at this point.
BB lost the team when Adalius Thomas was here. That was the year that Welker tore his knee without contact.

BB righted the ship after that.

BB is a demanding leader who has never been buddy buddy with the players. The Patriot way is dependent upon leaders in the locker room who understand why BB demands certain things and helps spread that accountability to the rest of the locker room. If BB stays he needs to find those players to connect with when the roster is constructed.

What a game. Bring back these jerseys please

I echoed this rationale a couple weeks ago... leaning toward someone like Harbaugh in our potentially chaotic state if BB & Co. leave. We'd benefit from someone with experience and deep ties to NFL staff, assistants, personnel people - because we could be totally resetting. Throwing a newbie like Mayo, or say a OC, in that position could be doomed from the start.
I'd also be okay if they picked BOB to replace BB, for that same reason. But, I have a sneaky suspicion that BB will return.
Kraft will likely make some adjustments and insert some oversight, and maybe put some benchmarks into the last year of BB's deal.
It's going to be an interesting January!

Sorry, it's a hard "No" on BOB.

I can get behind a Harbaugh hire. Hell, if the Steelers are dumb enough to fire Tomlin I can get behind a Tomlin hire as well.

My mind can’t process how anyone around here would want Tomlin over BB after how we’ve completely pantsed his teams for nearly two decades

I would prefer to keep BB as HC and get a GM to help with drafting, but if the conversation is we have to start fresh, there aren't a lot of people who boast the same resume as Tomlin. Would your rather go for an unproven guy like Mayo or another coordinator when someone who is as proven as Tomlin is also available?

I would prefer both Mayo and Belichick to Tomlin.

I would prefer BB as well. I think he is still the best HC to get a team ready week in and week out. But if the conversation is we have to start fresh.

What is the logic behind Mayo other than he's an ex-Patriot who is well liked and has been mentored by BB? He doesn't have experience. Giving him the job is like getting BB-lite. Might as well keep BB.

I can get behind Jim Harbaugh since he has a proven track record in the NFL. Tomlin has never had a losing season in 15 seasons which is remarkable given that Roethlisburger isn't on the same level as Brady and Manning.

Reading Vrabel and Titans are parting ways.
I bet that is the guy Kraft is targeting.

Yes, Mayo is BB-lite. That's Ok with me.

I suppose that is possible, with Kraft trying to get Mayo to stay by offering to making him Assistant Head Coach.

More likely, Mayo will move on, knowing that he will never be HC. The rest of the staff (and free agents) will then decide whether to stay under the unknown new regime on Defense.

I would MUCH rather keep Mayo and know that our 2024 Defense will be among the best in the NFL.

Bill was in his mid 50s back then. He'll be 72 this coming season. That's a huge difference.

You're capable of making valid points so I don't know why you let yourself get wrapped in stupid things like him being a meanie.
