I also think his position isn’t really one that is likely to be overpaid elsewhere so Bill’s approach of “see what’s out there then come back and talk to us again” works better. He’s a safety which is not a premium position, and he’s more of an in-the-box type safety than a free safety, which is even less valued. He’s definitely an impact player but brings less impact when he has to play too far outside of his role as we have seen recently when he’s needed to play more of a FS role. I doubt there will be any other team wanting to splurge on him.
Yup. Exactly. We could probably get him back on a $21-24 over 3 kind of deal pretty easily.

The Seahawks are one of Uche’s better scheme fits, if they are really going all in on the remainder of this season. Kinda similar to when Bruce Irvin played on the edge for them.
I think he'd be fun in Jacksonville. They really are having a tough time getting edge pressure from anyone outside of their Josh Allen.

I would really hate to say goodbye to Dugger. But he gone next year so they might.
I think Dugger may see the tag.. I believe for safeties of his caliber is between 10-14 million I believe?

And they're off. .get to work Bill.

Bill right now.

Purdy looks like crap tbh. He is either regressing or the league has simply figured him out now that they have about a full season’s worth of tape on him.
He returned too early from his concussion.
Prior to that, Purdy was playing very well.

If I’m BB unless I’m is blown away with an offer id keep Mac and let him finish the season no matter what for better or worse. At least then I know what I have with Mac for sure and then I can take into 2024 some knowledge about what I need from the offense.

If the team decides Mac just needs weapons then I hope they have enough picks to move up and get Marvin Harrison Jr. That would be nice. if the team feels Mac isn’t the guy then don’t pick up his option and go QB shopping.
It's just frustrating becuase JAX.. is where this team should be.. JAX is at the top of the AFC with KC right now. JAX did It the right way.. they went out and got Trevor a stud in Ridley, they invested the right way in the offense. That team is going to be a force to be reckoned with.. we got worse in each of the last 2 seasons. I honestly think the organization knows how they feel already on Mac. And as you perfectly stated they will likely listen on everyone.

I love Dugger as much as anyone but he is definitely overvalued by some people here.
That said, let’s not forget Bill spent a top pick on him and he obviously values him more than some others think. He’s getting paid here. No doubt about it.

Just a note: while we have a ton of cap space, Free Agency is VERY slim pickings next spring. And NE is not exactly a preferred destination. Sure money talks but this ain’t an open vault. If anything, if Bill is still here, he may sign a couple of $$ guys and THEN offer up some trades (WR anyone?) using 2025 picks and beyond. This 2024 draft will likely be more important than 2023.
I haven't seen what are the projected FAs

but truth be told, if rebuild mode is on,maybe the best course of action is to do what BB historically does:
Get a bunch middle-tier FAs and make them fight for positions with rookies/youngsters. Strong survive and, if no leader/star rises, at we start building the foundation with the best of rest.

It's going to be a interesting offseason, too bad it's going to take awhile for it to be intersting for us

OTC estimates $18M for the 2024 safety tag. It was stuck in the $10.5-11.5M range for six years from 2016-2021, but is finally catching up over the last couple.

Way too much hand wringing for a traditionally nothingburger time of year. I’d expect at most we will see a Uche trade for a 4th. More then that just doesn’t happen at this point between having to have the cap space, get a new player up to speed with the playbook, and the concern that the new guy won’t be a fit for whatever reason. The patriots should be sellers, but the sad truth is they have no one worth selling. Maybe Trent Brown for a 4th? I’d make that trade but that is the most they are going to get so not worth getting worked up about.
totally agree -- what do we have to sell? I don't care for Trent Brown, but if all we get is a 4th, what's the point? Same with Uche; We get some compensation if we lose them to free agency. A second for Mac ... maybe, but even there it might be better to see if we can fix him. I love stockpiling picks, but player valuations seem crazy now. 3 first rounders for a QB and a pro-bowl level position player only gets a mid-rounder. just don't seem worth it.

Thanks for that information.. your right I know it was stuck in that range you mentioned for a while. But Dugger and Peppers should definitely be re-signed. I think mills and Phillips are gone one way or another.

I'll agree. But I think the way of the NFL has finally caught up. It's all offensive geared.. that seed was planted 17,18 years ago when polian cried to the NFL about how physical we were to his diva WRs. Towards the rule changes. So it's all about scoring... we truly need some playmakers on offense.

Ridley? The guy who walked away from Atlanta Mid-season.

Ridley is their #2 WR. KIRK is the reason Lawrence is doing well. And Entienne. Not to mention their O-line looks to have gotten better with Taylor being gone.

Feel free to ignore all the injuries the Pats have had and the dearth of quality O-linemen. The fact that the Pats put up the record they did last year using different RTs and that s**tshow coaching debacle (which IS in BB) tells you the actual quality of the team.

The biggest issues this year is the damage to Mac's psyche. He's expecting to get hit because of all the hits he took last year and to start this year, so he's 2nd guessing his pre-snap read and not getting through his progressions properly. When he FINALLY gets to someone, his throws are late. We saw this numerous times this week. Even last week, some of his throws were late and the receivers did a good job covering it up.

Peppers isn't a free agent. He signed a 2 year deal this spring.

The blueprint has been pretty successful for young quarterbacks drafted early. Within the first year or two get them a true number one receiver.

Burrow: Chase and Higgins
Herbert: Had Keenan Allen and Mike Williams
Mahomes: Had Kelce and Hill
Lawrence: Kirk and Ridley
Josh Allen: Diggs
Hurts: AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith
Tua: Tyreek and Waddle

Bill just never set Mac up for success and basically sabotaged any chance of salvaging him.

No. There is no guaranteed compensation if we lose Uche in Free Agency. A 4th round pick in 2024 is better than a 5th or 6th round pick in 2025/.

I'll agree your right the damage has been done to his psyche.. but the play is not helping the team it's hurting them. I mentioned JAX becuase just like us.. they drafted a QB and was ruined by Myer his first season. They got perderson and signed some guys and there team goes to the playoffs and wins a round. Now they go get ridley to add to what they already had... but we can't overlook that his team is 6-2

I absolutely agree! That's what I mentioned JAX he has Ridley and Kirk. They did the right thing by Lawrence. Don't forget even Zach Wilson has Wilson at WR.
