Pats signing Cunningham to a 3 year deal!!!!

Elite speed, great athletic ability, and weighs about 190 lbs. He will snap in half running through the Dline and LBs. He is a twig. Thornton is a twig too, but Thornton is only getting hit by DBs.

I agree Mac is not the answer but I am wondering why you think a twig for a QB is the answer.
Why I think a twig is the answer? Wasn't Jackson a twig when he become the starter? Jared Goff was a twig and still is.. no one knows what exactly entails for him.. but his abilities and what he could potentially provide to this putrid offense is the just about the only thing to get fans excited about. The season is cooked it's all about entertainment value and assessment of the young players going forward.

Fair point, but if they’re dead set on converting him to WR, you’d think they would have changed his designation to WR, or at least announced the signing as WR, not QB. Not sure if it’s just marketing.
IMO the team knows internally what players do on a daily basis.. and how they are progressing so just IMO I'm looking at it like they see what the league is today with athletes at the QB position.. they likely know Mac or anyone else behind his isn't the answer. So why not give Cunningham a chance once this thing goes from bad to worse. He would make this terrible Offensive line at least look NFL caliber..

One notable change in practice last week, according to one person familiar with how the offensive coaching staff handled it, was giving undrafted rookie free agent Malik Cunningham more quarterback repetitions than the norm.
'We're together': Patriots aim to avoid internal division as offense struggles

Sounds like he will see some snaps at QB. How many may depend on how he does and how Mac is doing.

This isn’t what’s happening in all likelihood, but a funny thought did cross my mind - if the Pats find that they really like Cunningham by year’s end and want to build around him, then they are still within the “capitalize on a rookie QB deal” window. They’d have 2 years of minimum level salary after this year, plus he would be a restricted free agent for one year after that where they could retain him with a 1st round tender which still wouldn’t be much money. So overall there’s a window to seize on a cheap QB contract here, on the off chance that he is “the guy”, but that’s definitely a very slim likelihood.
Dream much Ross j/k.

We know Mac is on a very short leash and starting Today.

I think they'll let Malik throw it off RPO imo. That said I wonder if they like Malik as a runner and might try him as a 3rd down RB?? He can't run any worse than Rham.

Well thought out, or desperation move?

They are in desperate circumstances, but from what Belichick said he seems to have earned it. He’s a great athlete, but that doesn’t mean he will be a great QB, however given the **** play we have seen so far I’m fine with seeing what he can do there. They have nothing to lose at this point, they won’t be going to the playoffs, so play the young guys with highest ceilings and see how they do. This is the earliest I have looked at mock draft’s in over 20 years. They may well have a shot at the Michigan QB.

I actually would like to see Malik as the #2 today. And if Mac fails after 2 or 3 series, put him in.
Reason - BB and BOB know that our OL is atrocious. So, what do you do when the QB protection sucks?
Bring in a guy who can create on his own. Malik showed what he can do as a scrambling QB, and he was very slippery.
The surprising thing was how well he threw on the move, and when he did have time, he was decisive and pretty accurate.
I don't want to waste time with Zappe or Grier this season. If it's a busted year, then play the kid with the most raw talent.

Cunningham was 192 lbs at the combine. Goff was 215 and Jackson was 216 lbs., almost 25 lbs. heavier than Cunningham. Cunningham is a twig.

It’s interesting seeing the difference in excitement among us fans when it comes to Zappe and Cunningham, who both passed through waivers.

And in Cunningham's case was UDFA and on the practice squad for 6 weeks.

Malik did great in the preseason against very poor competition. He could be a diamond in the rough, the rough or somewhere in between.

We don't have a starting QB.. that is why I said I'm more interested to see ATHLETICALLY what he could do behind center IF this thing gets worse in wich is likely.. speaking for myself I'm just looking for any entertainment value left in this purtrid offense. We don't know what he is yet.. no one does.. Edelman was a QB when he was drafted..
Edelman is a good comparison, he was converted to a WR also.

Cunningham won't develop into an every down QB, he wasn't good enough of a passer in college and he's half as fast and big as Lamar Jackson. He'll be a WR, gadget player potentially, special teamer and a break glass in case of emergency QB.

They'll give Grier or Zappe a long look at QB once they move off Mac. They should have moved off Mac after last week's performance, they should have stuck with Zappe last year when he was 2-0.

I think it’s pretty obvious they are going to run some wildcat and why not.
Cool, they'll still have to replace Mac with Grier or Zappe.

Unfortunately, for a qb, malik is both a twig and a midget without a strong arm. If he stays in pocket he will get a lot of balls batted down.
I think if he can learn to run routes and bulk up he could be a good slot WR option.
Not realistic to expect him to come in as qb and turn things around. We can hope

We don't know that he doesn't have a strong arm.. we have to see him at length at the QB position.. I don't view him as a WR.. I view him as a unpolished, unfinished QB prospect. Now that does not mean he can't be effective at WR.. I believe the sky is the limit when you have any player with natural athletic ability. But I see your point though.

Yes and Myers also was a QB.. thier have been a few guy's over the years on the roster that were converted from one position to another. Malik is still a raw athlete.. he's no wear near reaching his full potential.. he can just continue to develop and learn the NFL as best possible.. he'll add muscle and adapt his body to the NFL. Lamar actually said Cunningham was faster than him in college and broke his records. He was being coy likely. As a pocket passer I'd rather see what Grier can do. As entertainment value Cunningham.
