Derek Carr had one of the worst statistical seasons of his career last year when they went out and got him Adams. They had Waller, Renfrow, Josh Jacob’s already… how does this “#1/Alpha” thing work again?
Carr has been in the league 10 seasons.. has always had talent.. never could do anything with it. Hence he has Olave and Thomas at his disposal. A banged up Thomas is better than anything not named pop Douglas right now.The Raiders have Devante Adams, they’re 22nd in scoring and JimmyG isn’t thriving.

Zappe isn't the answer either. You don’t have to cut Mac to start Zappe, you just prepare and start Zappe.
I'd like to see zappe play well if he became the starter.. becuase I'm a patriots fan.. I won't root for him to fail like some do with Mac.He could look better against the Saints and Raiders horrible defense and still not be good.
Last season he got better at not turning the ball over for a while… all it took was the Foxboro crowd chanting for Zappe to take his job. It didn’t last.
Mac's thrown 2 TD's in the last three games. He's tied for the third most turnovers in the entire NFL this season.
He turned it over last year also, and after week 13 in his rookie season. He seemingly always has.
If Zappe plays well, there doesn’t have to out of the norm changes next season… or if Mac has some come to Jebus moment.
It works very well when your QB doesn't rank third in the entire NFL in turnovers.Very easy... it's called talent. Working very well in Miami!!!
You didn't read what I wrote. Carr had his worst staistical season of his career when the Raiders went out and got him Devante Adams... when he had the best weapons of his career.Carr has been in the league 10 seasons.. has always had talent.. never could do anything with it. Hence he has Olave and Thomas at his disposal. A banged up Thomas is better than anything not named pop Douglas right now.
You can't see the future, you struggle with the past and present... live in the now man.Zappe isn't the answer either.
Mac is failing on his own, it's nobody else's fault.I'd like to see zappe play well if he became the starter.. becuase I'm a patriots fan.. I won't root for him to fail like some do with Mac.
Wozzy you're only critiquing Mac because you don't think in your opinion he's any good. He is a good quarterback put in a tough position. I agree with certain sentiments your posting. But beyond coaching the most important thing is talent! You can't ignore that. You just can't. Talent wins in 2023 NFL. We have complimentary players they aren't terribly bad just not the type of talent that can elevate a QB.. on Allen yes he was acending but became the guy he is today becuase his team went out and got a alpha. Now supposedly we were in on Diggs as well. Can guarantee you it came down to a few mere dollars like everything else.. I'll just end the Mac debat saying this.. no matter who will be starting by the seasons end there projects to be change going forward we can't keep doing same things year in and out.. IMO we are a worse team then 2 seasons ago.It works very well when your QB doesn't rank third in the entire NFL in turnovers.
You only look at the situations where "talent" is working, and ignore the multitude of places it isn't.
Talent wins man..You can't see the future, you struggle with the past and present... live in the now man.
His GM is failing him.. when Mac plays poorly does not do him any favors..Mac is failing on his own, it's nobody else's fault.
While I agree that it probably couldn't hurt to try Zappe, I think the coaching staff made their decision that Zappe looks worse than Mac in practice and in camp and that he doesn't offer them any better chance at winning. I know people don't agree with that (and I think it couldn't hurt), but I don't think we're going to see Zappe take over unless things get a lot worse. At this point, I've moved on to wanting to draft a QB high next year. You can't see the future, you struggle with the past and present... live in the now man.
Wrong. I can dredge up my pre-draft posts from before the 2021 draft if you like. I was very high on Mac. It's what Mac has done since he entered the league that changed my opinion of him.Wozzy you're only critiquing Mac because you don't think in your opinion he's any good. Not if you lack good play at the QB position.Talent wins man..
Mac is failing his team. His GM is failing him.. when Mac plays poorly does not do him any favors..
The coaches are not always right, and they want to give every sliver of opportunity for Mac to turn it around before they move on... which is the correct thing to do.While I agree that it probably couldn't hurt to try Zappe, I think the coaching staff made their decision that Zappe looks worse than Mac in practice and in camp and that he doesn't offer them any better chance at winning. Ok, we agree on certain things.. let's be realistic what has transpired since he's been here.. he showed promise his rookie season.. last yeah he was ruined.. this season he seems like isn't trusting what he's seeing or the people around him.. sucks is what fields has been prior to the last 2 games, what Russell has been.. that's what sucks I would not say Mac sucks.. can he play better absolutely positively.Wrong. I can dredge up my pre-draft posts from before the 2021 draft if you like. I was very high on Mac. It's what Mac has done since he entered the league that changed my opinion of him.
"Like" has nothing to do with it.
I liked Mac as a prospect, I like Zappe as a prospect... if Zappe plays and looks terrible I'm not going to pretend he's been good or making excuses for him... which is what you're doing. "Prospect," the definition of what these people are is literally written in the name. I have no emotions attached to any player.
I said last season before the Ravens game Mac was in danger of getting benched for turning it over. I don't care who starts, Mac or Zappe, I just want better, mistake free QB play.
Mac has sucked. Can he improve? Possibly, he has the tools, but right now he sucks.
I'll agree on that coaches can loose the game players win it..The coaches are not always right, and they want to give every sliver of opportunity for Mac to turn it around before they move on... which is the correct thing to do.
I've just seen enough, they feel like he deserves another chance.
Time will prove who is correct.
Maybe. I don't think Zappe is going to turn into a franchise QB at this point. I don't think he makes it through being cut and every team having a shot at him and no one taking a chance on him to realize that he's not the answer. We need a new QB who is not on this roster and we're probably not getting him until the offseason. The coaches are not always right, and they want to give every sliver of opportunity for Mac to turn it around before they move on... which is the correct thing to do.
