welp...UGH!! UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH....in fact, I don't have enough UGHs to stick down the throats of you UGH emoji know-it-alls...I saw this coming and was vilified for it...well...SCREW YOU MR. UGH....

Who was it who used to say, "That's a spicy meat-uh-ball"? Dean Martin?
Ehhh. It was an Alka-Seltzer ad. I guess that's off topic, but I doubt it was "already discussed."

That says something that the Patriots are incapable of even finding what they consider to be a competent back up for Mac Jones, who may be a middler QB himself.

Zappe will be on the PS in no time, I doubt anyone picks him up, Mailk might be available to come back too.

Should be obvious but in case it wasn’t… a late round QB does not necessarily equal a diamond in the rough or someone special. Yeah Tom Brady… but there will never be another Tom Brady again. Ever.

Wow this is crazy

That’s a good bet.

I hope he's getting odds. Phil had a chat with "some [unnamed] experts" a few days and all of a sudden it became alarmist to think Malik might not pass through wavers. I continue to think he well might get picked up.

I can at least explain my perspective.

Mac comes across as a Bledsoe-type without the cannon for the arm. Someone who can get flustered even when they perceive the protection to be breaking down.

Now Zappe didn't have a cannon arm either, but he showed flashes of being 'comfortable' even when plays were breaking down. He seemed to have some PURDY qualities. Now I think the reality is that was more of a flash than reality, but at least what 'the buzz' was about.
Honestly the Purdy comparison is very analogous…..if you put Purdy in as QB this preseason (especially last game with no OL and 3 marginal WR to try to throw to…..Purdy would have done no better than Zappe. Zappe last year behind SF starting OL in SF would have flourished as much as Purdy did . I wish Zappe well….still think he has great potential in the right system!

clearly Bill disagrees.

purdy just beat out trey lance the #3 pick. zappe just got cut with no other QB on the roster behind mac. and will likely be back on the practice squad.

Zappe never had a game as good as purdy did last year.

No but there are really only two options, they either tried to trade him and no luck. Or they simply cut him hoping to get him on the PS.

I would assume the latter.
They may have tried to trade him in order to gauge if there was interest so they would have a better idea if he would be claimed. In that scenario had a team shown interest they keep him but if none did they feel they can waive him then sign him back after putting an OL on IR.

Change Purdy's name to Brady.

Change Zappe's to any random QB from the last 20+ years.

This is the exact same take a ton of media folks had throughout Brady's NE tenure.

I’m relaxed about them. In fact I’d like to see Malik on PS but would be perfectly fine to see Zappe and even Cunningham elsewhere. Right now I’d like to see them sign McCoy as QB2 and Will Grier on the PS. Might even prefer other way around, with Grier as QB2. Think we do need a QB2 along with a third QB but PS would suffice for QB3.
know nothing about grier

A bit alarming Patricia got more out of Zappe than savior BOB.

Question: Which week this season will the Gillette crowd be fervently chanting the next #2's name?

Maybe Zappe functioned better in the downsized offense and now is having trouble catching up.

I took a quick look when Cowboys released him after he played lights out immediately after they traded for Trey. Superficial check seems he can run as well as pass. I’d like to see Pats pick him up and see what BOB could do with a less raw Malik Cunningham type.

I'm sure others on here will know more about him than I do, so I expect to be corrected whether I’m wrong or not…

I would like to shamelessly plug myself for saying this since last week.
I have no doubt they'll try to get him on the PS...
But, I'm glad BB still sees eye to eye with me - we need a better (vet) QB2
I'm betting on Trevor Siemian. (and I've been right so far)
Don't get a warm feeling from Simian. Did he play for BOB?

Yep. Can't wait for the next 7th round we QB we draft to throw a TD in garbage time to become the next TB12 though
