Slater is not a candidate. He literally has double the dead cap than cap hit.

Someone like Guy is a candidate, if he would agree, which probably is no. Myles Bryant and Mack Wilson are also two good examples.

I think Bryant is getting traded.

Mack Wilson might be a candidate.

Garrett Mills - Claimed by Minny - (2007)
Kamu Grugier-Hill - Claimed by Philly (2016)
Darryl Roberts - Claimed by Jets (2016)
Cre'von LeBlanc - Claimed by the Bears (2016)
Kenny Moore - Claimed by Indy (2017)
Kenny Webster - Claimed by Miami - (2019)
Austin Carr - Claimed by Saints (2017)

Nobody cared when we lost Kenny Webster, Garrett Mills, and Kenny Moore.

Darius Butler,
Like Chung, Butler was misused as an outside CB. Bill made a mistake giving up on him and not putting him in the slot. Luckily, it didn't haunt the Pats as Arrington was a fine player in the slot.
Not retaining Danny Woodhead
Shane Vareen was his replacement and was fairly identical in production. Lewis came after who was the most dynamic and White followed. You might be the only person that thinks "Woodcock" was a major loss.
letting Dominique Easley was better with the Rams than here
He was actually the reason Bill felt he could lowball Akiem Hicks - that was the biggest mistake.

Game Preview: Titans at Patriots

The New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans (formerly the Houston Oilers) will square off in the preseason for the first time since 2019 when the Patriots traveled to Nashville for joint practice sessions prior to a 22-17 victory on Aug. 17, 2019. The last time the two teams played in the regular season was in 2021 when Tennessee lost, 36-13, at Gillette Stadium on Nov. 28, 2021.
The teams have played 45 times in regular season and postseason play since the two charter members of the American Football League began play in 1960. The Patriots and Oilers played twice each year from 1960-1969 in the AFL and have played 25 times since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. In those 25 post-merger games, the Patriots have a 16-9 record, including a 2-2 mark in playoff games.
New England leads the overall regular season and postseason series, 26-18-1, with a 24-16-1 New England advantage in the regular season.

I was listing players whom the Pats lost when they waived them. Nothing more.

Yes the original conversation was that very few young players who are lost really amount to much.

Of course Boutte may be the exception if he's lost.

You're right. I think the conversation also proves that if they think he's good, they'll find a way to keep him.

I like it; he was one of the very best UDFA DTs available last year, especially at his size... I hope he's given a long look vs the Titties.

Wonder if there's anything happening with the defensive tackles of which we're unaware...
Perhaps you are unaware that Carl Davis sucks?

If Thornton is going to end up on IR for a few weeks, then you find a way to keep Malik as both 3rd QB and 6th WR

The guys in NY just updated the emergency QB rules - not only does the backup QB have to be on the 53 he also has to to be "legitimate" QB, not just a position player who can also play QB. So at very least they would have to change his position on the roster from WR to QB if they wanted to use him in this role.

Can you put Thornton on IR so he can't play till week eight and have room on the 53 for Boutte? Or does Thornton have to be on the 53 BEFORE he goes on IR.

BTW- One thing to remember is that in EVERY NFL camp there is a guy just like Boutte (low draft pick or UDFA) who is "opening eyes" and just about EVERY team is worried that someone will take that kid on cut down day. So just because Boutte is suddenly playing well, it doesn't mean someone else will grab him. Remember every other team in the league is grappling over how to fit all the players they WANT into the roster they are required to have.
Agree, except...again, Boutte was considered a top draw until injury/"scandal"/Chip Kelly turned him around in a bad way. If any team out there sees that he's going back to what was expected initially, he's gone, poof!

Think of Shawn Wade - he was considered a potential first rounder who struggled with a foot injury, then got moved outside at CB and stunk it up. But Wade never got it back - Pats traded for him in the hopes that he would, and if he did/does, he becomes a steal.

Boutte is showing a lot of the swagger and stuff that he flashed as a top recruit at a school that's been putting A+ WRs in the league regularly (Jefferson and Chase) and Boutte had lesser QBs than Burrow, of course.

He'll get grabbed up if they try to sneak him through.

And while some are mentioning "Pats have bad receivers, if he can't make it here..." nonsense. Those "ratings" are based on WR1's mostly. Other than Diggs, the Pats WR room blows Buffalo's away, and that's true for many teams, as the Pats WRs are thick in the 2/3 range.
