Can the Line hold up?

My first three picks this year would have been Michael Mayer (TE), John Michael Schmitt (someone we could toss at guard, allowing Onwenu to play RT where he is above average, then roll back to center after Andrews retires), and Charlie Jones (WR). Mayer and Jones would make great security blankets.

I also liked Friermouth and Pickens. I liked Kupp.

Why is it that the posters who look back at the draft with regret always think they would have selected the best WRs and TEs?

Mister Anderson, do you have lyme disease?

A question that could be asked of him.

They’re hindsight experts in the draft, they’ll tell you who all the best players are years down the road. But back during draft week, they’re nowhere to be found and have no opinions.

Mafi might get there, sure - maybe Sow, if tackle doesn't work out (I think it will - just a hunch).

Risner is young, big, has started 62 games in his career and is only 28. I've never heard a bad word about him. Not sure what he's looking for $$$-wise, but he is everything we're hoping some of the young'uns can become.

The Pats have money - lots of money. The Pats need RELIABLE OL help, lots of RELIABLE OL help!

They took three shots - including the next pick and another in the 4th round, and a 5th-rounder, who might be the most promising of the three.

Note that they took none of the OTs, which means they didn't think they would be upgrades.

Yep, and they had a great draft, the talent just wasn’t there to go OT early. As I said in another post Scar’s greatest ability wasn’t turning linemen into Hall of Famer’s, it was taking very average OL and turning them into good OL who were really disciplined about playing their role and not taking costly penalties. His ability to get them to use their fundamentals to keep from getting beat was the reason, as almost all OL penalties come from either getting beat, or the fear of it. That’s what Klemm has to do with this line, get them to use sound fundamentals to play good football, he doesn’t have to make them into the best OL in football, just a really solid unit. The Patriots have suffered dearly over the past couple of season from losses of experienced coaches, special teams and the OL in particular, as both units have been making serious mistakes, and getting really costly penalties that have cost them games;

I have never gotten over Belichick passing over JJ Watt and Aaron Donald, or Saquon Barkley for that matter. And no one should forgive him for bypassing Mahomes, F.cking Belichick

The latest example of that could turn out to be George Pickens.

Or maybe, in reverse, it could be Demario Douglas or Kayshon Boutte.

Sure, Pickens looked the part with his circus catches - but...he caught 3 balls a game last year and had 3 fewer yards total than Jakobi Meyers. Canton might be going "hmm," but they haven't fitted the jacket yet. By all reports, he's also got an attitude problem - swagger to the umpteenth level, and is getting a rep of pushing off DBs.

Maybe he'll learn some humility. Maybe he'll calm down his OPI tendencies. Maybe he'll see more than a handful of targets per game.

The physical talent is definitely there, sure. By the time he gets his arms around those other issues, he'll probably be complaining about his contract and be ready for big-time $$$, so the team that gets peak Pickens might not be the one who drafted him.

Belichick didn’t actually pass on the players I named, some here just act like he did. As far as Pickens goes that could be true, we will see? The better example imo is taking Aaron Dobson over Keenan Allen.

The first couple drives when brown was in there they looked okay.

It wasn't until brown was out that it fell apart. So it honestly seems like they'll be okay if everyone stays healthy

But if there's even one injury to the line or the tackles it can be a disaster quickly. Steuber looked lost out there.

That strip sack he let on Mac was bad enough. But then him standing there staring at the ball was worse.

Selective memory. And the good Captain hates all our players.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Why don't you willfully ignorant lemmings visit the draft forum next spring, maybe you'll learn something.

"B-b-but Bill drafted him, so he MUST be good!"

"B-b-but Bill didn't draft him, so he SUCKS!"

F-f-****ing m-m-morons.

Every bit as bad as the flip side:

Bill drafted him, he sucks.

Bill didn’t draft him, he’s All-Pro before he signs his rookie contract.

That's unfair. @captain stone is in all the draft threads and makes his opinions about players very clear pre-draft and during the draft. He's had a pretty solid track record the last several years--not perfect, but certainly as good as any GM out there right now. That doesn't mean I appreciate the negative attitude, but let's at least be honest that many people make predictions and are right about them.

I always visit the draft threads and forum, and watch draft videos and read scouting reports. That has nothing to do with my post. You have trouble with reading comprehension in your old age?

Yep, always important to remember, there were 5 busts selected before Metcalf, not just Harry.

OK, let me sum it up in a nutshell. We are not going to know ANYTHING about what this offense is going to be UNTIL Strange and Ownu return.....PERIOD. And is frustrating the HELL out of me is not seeing ANYTHING about when their possible return will be. I am hoping they both dress today and at least do SOME work.

Man if I were a reporter THAT is the story I would be digging to dredge out, not this same old, Mac and WR talk that seems to go on endlessly. It's not so much their out but for HOW long. No one seems to be interested in trying to find out. Any news today about seeing either of them or did they have a ANOTHER day off?

Yeah, someone over on the Sidy Sow thread was posting some of his past gems.

"At what feckin position exactly is this FECKIN FAT FECK going to play?!?" - Captain Stone on Mike Onwenu

I think there are people who casually watch the draft and know all the first round players names, then there are people that do a deep dive on players who could also go late or undrafted. Again... telling us who we could have had years later when you have the results is as worthless as a wet paper bag holding a wet fart in a rainstorm.
