He’s bitter that he expected to work out a lucrative long term deal with the Pats then came up short in the big game. Lost the Super Bowl by not making the play, so Bill didn’t open the vault to keep him.
Ty law said himself BB wasn't so much playing hard ball with him during his contract talks.. ty said It was his own ego.. had he put his ego aside he wished he had stayed.. assante same thing.. he wasn't anywhere near the complete player ty was... we are supposed to mature as we go along In life.. assante acts as if he's still rookie . Grow up!!

I definitely agree that he makes that play he definitely would have had some leverage.. he ended up getting a lucrative deal from eagles.. and then falcons

Sure he's a Patriots legend but not in the way the article title might have intended.

His whole career is defined by that Eli Manning throw that went through his hands in the biggest possible moment. That's all he's really known for, everything else is secondary.
Who do you feel was better during there time here JC Jackson or Assante?

Legend isnt exactly the word I would use. Infamous is more like it, for dropping the game winning interception against the Giants

Legend in his own mind.

Samuel had very comparable stats to to Ty Law in less time. He also didn't become the full time starter until his 3rd season.

Ty Law keeps getting thrown around like the gold standard of "lock down CB's", but many don't seem to remember him getting roasted by Moulds, Harrison and Keyshawn Johnson (his Daddy) alone during the Carroll years. His best years with Bill were 2001 and 2003 and there were games he got beat. YouTube is a click away and you can just check out those divisional games watching him chase around those players.

Ty law is the one the pillars and gold standards of the dynasty era. His hall of fame speaks for itself.. when JC, assante get hall of fame honors then they can talk. He never got roasted or embarrassed the way I've seen Diggs do to JC.. Harrison&Wayne roasted assante as well.. youtube also has that footage as well. However you are right though..

BB used ty differently.. ty played more off coverage under Carroll. BB knew ty was a press man corner not necessarily a zone corner.. assante was strictly a zone corner.. he was a ball hawk like JC was.

The rules were changed because of ty law.. polian cried to the NFL thus changing the rules.. all great CBs have plays they give up.. however it's all about the next play.. I've never seen ty get routinely beat like some corners do.. he also was excellent against the run..

Gilly was the best comparison I can use for ty laws game.. they were both physical man coverage corners. Gilly had his issues when he first signed.. once he got fully acclimated into BBs system he was only the DPOTY.. he did something assante couldn't make the game saving play in a superbowl!!!

Random Q: Is Gilly the best CB we've had in the Dynasty era? Or do you think Ty was better? I was pretty young so I don't remember the detail of Law's play as much as I remember Gilly being the most complete CB's I've watched in Patriots uniform.

Well I'll say this.. even the most die hard of fans I'd imagine weren't fully emotionally invested during early 90s til about the Parcells era.. LOL because we were loosing.. I'll say this..

We had Talib for a cup of coffee.. he was pretty good but couldn't stay healthy.

Revis for a season he was great once he was asked to play man.. he was playing zone early on and was giving up plays...

Then we had the butler.. Malcom was great and played with heart.

However gilly was a different type of player.. his game, his body type was more line with Ty to me.

So my opinion I'd say gilly for sure.. when you can go to YouTube and search 2004
AFC champion game.. we won 21-3 picked off Manning 3 times. Look at Ty Law's performance in that game.

It's really a toss up. Both had really good years, but Ty Law's 2003 season really sticks out because this was before the rule changes favoring offenses. Him and Tyrone Poole were awesome that year. The best CB tandem and best defense of the Dynasty by far as well.

Not a legend, very good player even post Patriots career

Revis and Browner were the two best we had on the field at one time IMO. Ty was a gamer, he showed up when it was needed the most, like his pick 6 vs Rams, and his three INTs vs Manning in the AFCCG. I don't know if he was the best we had, we had some damned good CBs, but he stepped up when the lights were brightest, unlike The Legend In His Own Mind. (TLIHOM?) Gilmore is certainly at or near the tops of the list of all time Pats CBs, and that's saying something.

Yes ty Poole was awesome.. having ty law on the other side where most of the targets are going to Pooles side is what you want.. more opportunities to pick off the QB.... seems like guys that do well here leave and either have pedestrian careers or just end up out of the league for some reason.. weird.

Not even close to Law and Poole. Poole had identical stats to Law with 6 Int's and 21 passes defensed. Teams could not throw on either of them.

The 2014 secondary and defense was pedestrian compared to 2003.

Have to remember.. 2014 was 9 years after cry baby Bill polian got the rules changed.... Revis island and Brandon the boom browner were awesome that season.. they struck fear in WRs especially going across the middle.. to be a lock down secondary in 2014 was dam good.. early 2ks was a free for all for DBs..

Which goes to show you that they have had a plethora of excellent CBs.

If Revis was in his prime id agree here...but after the injury he was never quite as good (still great in 14 though). Matching Primes, Revis wouldve been the best defensive back in Patriot history most likely

The 2014 defense allowed 24 passing TD's to 16 INT's. Revis was good that season, but you could clearly tell he slowed down a bit. Browner was a liability at times.

For reference the 2019 pass defense allowed 13 TD's to 25 INT's comparable to the 2003 defense.

Not many fans of teams can say that.

Pats CB's over the years were in no order:

#1's:

1. Law
2. Revis
3. Gilmore
4. Talib
5. Jackson
6. Butler
7. Samuel

#2's:

1. Otis Smith
2. Browner
3. Ryan
4. Poole
5. Hobbs
6. Jason McCourty
7. Dennard for a short period
