Player Signing Patriots Sign Gesicki

One thing I just thought of - there are some pretty solid TEs in this year’s draft, I wonder if they have their eyes on some. Perhaps Henry is the “Gronk” (obviously less of a blocker, but should be fine) and Gesicki is the “Hernandez”, and they draft another prospect to develop and replace one of them. Both have contracts expiring after 2023.

If they do use 2TE formations a lot then they don’t need as many receivers. Juju seems like an ideal fit to complement a 2TE offense. I guess either Parker or Thornton on the other side. If Thornton can put it together, I have to imagine defending his deep speed, Juju’s athleticism, Gesicki’s size and athleticism, Henry’s big frame and then also Rhamondre and the possibility that they can just check into a run play from the same formation and slam you with Stevenson would be tough.
...and if they are gonna run 12 personnel out there a majority of the time 2 things will happen...1, they'll be favorable TE matchups and 2. Teams will play zone which is a JuJu strength.

Let the speculation begin about whether Mac suddenly following Hopkins and OBJ right after he started following Gesicki was only a troll or if it actually means something.

My hunch is Mac unknowingly let it out and to make it seem like a troll started following others. Deep within I thought gesicki was a possibility.

Considering dead cap with Jonnu, we are actually spending around 33 million this year in TE space.

Oh I'm with you. I just tend to hedge my comments. There have been plenty of players I've thought were going to do really well here that just didn't for various reasons. I agree he should be better 100%.
I get it.

I'm not hedging on my Jonnu assessment. He was awful and Gesicki can get open and catch the ball.

Thats ok as of now 2024 is $0 lol

This also makes me wonder about OBJ. He’s not quite a true #1, but both Juju and Gesicki on the field means that teams can’t just double him. The combo of all 3 of them might be a good blend. Swap Henry out for a 3WR set with Thornton to add a burner.

We can complain all we want about lack of free agent moves, but they have methodically and economically filled every hole on the roster. Now they can use their 11 draft picks, abundant cap space and remainder of free agency to improve.

As I said yesterday he and HH are basically redundant however there are benefits...

-Knows the offense (E/P) so should contribute Week 1
-Is a move/catching TE and another big target for Mac
-If HH goes down he can replace him
-If they draft a TE and kicks ass in camp they can cut/trade HH and save a ton on the cap
I still would take Washington.

Not quite. Free safety is still a question mark. Right tackle is kinda filled by Reiff but not sure if we should have total confidence in that one. That also leaves Trent Brown as the left tackle, which again we can’t have total confidence in.

CB, LB and WR are also three groups which are about the same as they were last year - fine, no real “holes”, but could use upgrades.

You’re not totally off base though - beyond FS, they could probably field this team tomorrow.

I love the move. We've now upgraded Meyers slightly with Juju and we've upgraded Smith significantly with Gesicki. I am now confident that the offense will be functional. We are now also in a position where our 3 major offensive needs have been filled by competent players, reducing the need to reach for a need in the draft.

It's time to tap the breaks on the Gronk/Hernandez talk. We're really looking at more of a Graham/Watson paring here.

Agree. We can say they have "filled holes" but that does not mean they are a better team.

I think they are better but we'll see Still need some a boost in talent at LB, DT, OT, CB and FS.

I like the pick. Hernandez type of TE/WR.
Paired with HH this gives BOB the traditional 2 TE set he likes

With having mildly competent offensive coaches, I feel better going into this year than last, at least.

I love the signing, btw. Gesicki burned the Pats at least a couple of times. I like him better as TE2 than Smith...not saying much, but...

So the Pats have now upgraded two receiver positions. Now the hard part. Trying to upgrade the massive impact of Nelson Agholor.

Like the move. Gesicki will be the Hernandez part of what made O’Brien’s offense so good a little over a decade ago.
I am also confident that BOB will use Thornton more effectively than Patricia. Unleash the inner Will Fuller in him, Billy! (minus the recurrent injuries and PEDs). I also think that Thornton has more route versatility than Fuller.

I agree.
With our Cap space dwindling you will start to see future moves on the Defensive side of the ball.
Jeudy’s salary would not be a problem. But you give up draft capitol. But OBJ or DHop would be
Draft will fill in holes and depth but you can’t count on them players immediately

Gesicki and Juju are good pick ups, but of course, it will all depend on Mac's improvement under BOB

Nice signing and it gives us a competent receiver at TE.

I still think we need a young #1 WR, likely via the draft, and should also look at a TE in the draft to take over next year.
