Player Signing Patriots Sign Gesicki

Seems like we’re taking this back to 2011-12 Gronk obviously always mauled people, but the murderer was not much for blocking. It’s why they’d bring in Matt Mulligan types behind them.
I’ll note that Mulligan himself wasn’t with the Pats until BoB had left. But they had Crumpler in 2010 who was just a blocking TE at that point, and drafted Lee Smith in 2011 for that role, who ultimately didn’t make the team but had a long career as the 3rd blocking TE.

If he is not "chip blocking", we need an athletic LT to handle the outside pass rush. I do not think Trent Brown is that guy.

The fact this is only a 1 year deal is interesting. It doesn’t touch their massive 2024 war chest of cap space still.
That and both he and Henry are up after 2023. They can blow it up if it doesn’t go well this year. Fingers crossed though, we’ll be having a lot of angst at this time next year hoping they’re both re-signed because they did so well.

Let the speculation begin about whether Mac suddenly following Hopkins and OBJ right after he started following Gesicki was only a troll or if it actually means something.

So the Pats have now upgraded two receiver positions. Now the hard part. Trying to upgrade the massive impact of Nelson Agholor.

Like the move. Gesicki will be the Hernandez part of what made O’Brien’s offense so good a little over a decade ago.

Hopefully he can be what Jonnu was supposed to have.
I like gisikie, the guys a playmaker when given the chance.. now we don't have to see him make plays on our safeties

Biggest FA names next year are Hockenson, Engram & Henry... At least 2 of the 3 wont hit FA imp... So maybe a one year deal to get to a more favorable market?

Any word on Bisi Johnson his rookie year he was ahead of Justin Jefferson on the depth chart going into the season til Jefferson went nuts and Bisi lost 2 knees.

I like it. Upgrade over Jonnu (most likely) and with a deep TE draft class they can take a flyer on a good talent in 4th or later, without needing that kid to step in right away and be the guy.

As I said yesterday he and HH are basically redundant however there are benefits...

-Knows the offense (E/P) so should contribute Week 1
-Is a move/catching TE and another big target for Mac
-If HH goes down he can replace him
-If they draft a TE and kicks ass in camp they can cut/trade HH and save a ton on the cap

He is absolutely an upgrade over Jonnu. He'll have more catches this year than Jonnu's 2 years here.

One thing I just thought of - there are some pretty solid TEs in this year’s draft, I wonder if they have their eyes on some. Perhaps Henry is the “Gronk” (obviously less of a blocker, but should be fine) and Gesicki is the “Hernandez”, and they draft another prospect to develop and replace one of them. Both have contracts expiring after 2023.

If they do use 2TE formations a lot then they don’t need as many receivers. Juju seems like an ideal fit to complement a 2TE offense. I guess either Parker or Thornton on the other side. If Thornton can put it together, I have to imagine defending his deep speed, Juju’s athleticism, Gesicki’s size and athleticism, Henry’s big frame and then also Rhamondre and the possibility that they can just check into a run play from the same formation and slam you with Stevenson would be tough.

Oh I'm with you. I just tend to hedge my comments. There have been plenty of players I've thought were going to do really well here that just didn't for various reasons. I agree he should be better 100%.
