************, will all of you whiney, squawking b*tches STFU already. Other than the 2021 offseason and the Gilmore signing, the Patriots have operated like this on day 1 of free agency for entire Belichick era, Brady or no Brady. Bills knows that when the dust settles after the day 1 feeding frenzy, a lot of good players will remain and their asking prices will start to come down. Many other GMs feel the same way and operate in a similar manner. You imbeciles like to pretend that 9 hours into FA the Patriots are one of the only a handful of inactive teams when it comes to signing external free agents. In realiity, 40% of the teams still haven’t signed everyone new and of the teams that have, more than half have only signed one external free agent. Do tell me all about the aggressive signings that the Bills have made so far, as a response to Miami’s moves. I’ll wait.
Teams should be willing to overpay to some extent (or at least be willing set a new record for a particular position) for an elite talent, whom the coach and GM have identified as a true difference maker. Bill has been very aggressive with those type of players in the past…..Colvin, Glimore. Most years, however, including this year’s UFA crop, there are a lot of good to very good players but nobody for whom they should be overpaying for.
Do we need an OT? Absolutely, but it makes no sense to get into a bidding war for Dillard, when the guy has never proven that be can handle a starting role over an extended period of time. Is Taylor a young, athletic OT who has proven to be a legit starter? Sure, but he guy also cannot run block his way out of a paper bag and for those who haven’t noticed, the Pats like to run the ball. The Chiefs offense is obviously very pass heavy, so Taylor’s lack of run blocking prowess is less of an issue. They apparently plan to shift him to LT, which so seems risky to me.
Edmunds has a ton of physical talent but he only put everyone together this past year, so a regression back to his old norm is not out of the question. prior to 2022, he was generally thought to be a disappointment given his draft position, Why the Bears traded away a superior player (Smith) last year only.
If they are going to overpay in terms of a taking on a big contract, or being willing to give up important draft capital, I want them to do it for an elite player with a multiyear track record of excellence whom they acquire via trade.
We haven’t even finished half of day 1 one of one of several phases of player acquisition, so sweet Baby Jesus, please stop it with the *****ing and moaning. It only takes away from the larger discussion in this thread. Your comments are only welcomed by small (but unfortunate vocal) group of posters here who feel and act the same way.
@Sam Bam Cunningham, why must you post the same material in multiple threads? For the life of me, I will never understand why so many here who claim to love the Patriots do nothing but bash them and spread pessimism, especially when the off-season roster building process is still in its infancy.
