BB THE GOAT

Interesting note about the Pats' playoff losses under BB/TB:

Div round at Den: L, 27-13
AFCCG at Ind: L, 38-34
SB vs NYG: L, 17-14
WC vs Bal: L, 33-14
Div vs NYJ: L, 28-21
SB vs NYG: L, 21-17
Div vs Bal: L, 28-13
AFCCG at Den: L, 26-16
AFCCG at Den: L, 20-18
SB vs Phi: L, 41-33
Div vs Ten: L, 20-13

In 3 of those losses, the Pats scored more than 18 points (29.3 avg). In 8 of those losses, the Pats scored 18 or fewer points (14.5 avg).

Of course, look at the defense in those games too. In 7 of those losses, the Pats gave up 26 or more points (31.6 avg). In 4 of those losses, the Pats gave up 21 or fewer points (19.5 avg).
In many of those games the points allowed were aided by turnovers.

Bademosi played 11 snaps.
How well Rowe or Bademosi played is irrelevant to your misinformed opinion that everyone played a different role and it was chaos.

Richards 16 snaps had nothing to do with whether Butler played or not. They don’t play the same position. The only role that changes by putting Butler on the field is Rowe.
I'm starting to think you've blocked this game out of your memory. So I'll remind you.

There were 75 snaps for the Patriots defense. If Butler gets his usual 98% of those then that's 74 snaps taken away from other DBs:

Rowe = 71 snaps
Richards = 16 snaps
Bademosi = 11 snaps

Those three accumulated 98 snaps. With Butler at his usual capacity their snap count drops to 24.

Who would you rather have on the field? The starting CB for the previous 55 games in a row or one of Rowe, Richards, or Bademosi?

And it's nonsense to argue we don't know if Butler would have played better than any one of those three because each of them were dreadful in the game.

At the very least BB should have recognized how bad the DBs were playing and given Butler a chance. BB said Butler was available to play, and given what he was witnessing from the other DBs, he should have put Butler in the game at some point.

It seems apparent BB had his mind made up, regardless, Butler was not playing on defense.

McCourty covers TEs in man. All safeties do. It’s like you don’t understand football.
It's like you don't watch the Patriots. How often is McCourty in man coverage?

You heard one thing that you don’t believe and THAT is your evidence? Incredible.
Firstly, I never said I had evidence. And this particular rumor is the one that I think is least credible. I don't know if it's true or not.

There is absolutely nothing to support any altercation beyond your imagination. Might as well say “Belichick clearly benched him out of spite because he learned he is an alien” It has just as much credence.
Really? So benching Butler because BB learned "he is an alien" is just as plausible as benching him after an altercation with a coach? Let's see, one is impossible, and the other is actually possible in reality.

You think that for the one and only time in his career that a player wanted to pursue free agency, Belichick decided to harm his own chances to win by taking it out on the player in the SB? This not only has no credence it could be the stupidest thing ever said on this board.
That's not what I said. I only said the contract issue could have been a secondary motivation.

Again you seem to not be a fan of facts.
Richards would have played those snaps whether Butler was active or not.
All that would have changed was Butler playing Rowes snaps and Rowe playing Bademosis.
We surely do not know if Butler would have played better than Rowe. Bill Belichick did not think he was prepared to. He knew the situation.
All the rest is garbage

You are referring to 1 play. It surely happens at least an average of once a game. There are many play calls that result in McCourty on a TE.

It’s a made up from thin air rumor with nothing to support it.
Let’s blame aliens. It’s equally credible.
There is equal evidencbe to support it. In other words both are fabricated BS

No you made that up too. It’s never happened and there is no reason for it to happen.
You’ve got nothing so you are making things up.
All to try and trash the man who delivered 6 rings to your team.

We're just going around in circles. It's obvious neither one of us is going to budge.

I didn't make up the rumors. I heard or read them. I don't know what happened other than Butler was benched and I don't believe for a second that it was due to illness or unpreparedness. BB and Butler both said he could have played. He didn't and they lost... I'm connecting the two. You can believe otherwise.

The rumors were made up whether you made them up or just pass them on. They have absolutely no basis in reality.
Butler himself said he wasn’t prepared. That’s the fact here.

My whole thing with that Butler situation is this. If he was truly unprepared, so much so that under NO circumstances (barring injuries to basically every other secondary player) was he going to see the field on defense, why have him active at all? Why not have someone else who was more prepared be active?

If he WAS active, then he would have played in a “break glass in case of emergency” kind of situation.

BUT…. the way the Pats’ D got shredded that game, it kind of WAS a “break glass in case of emergency” situation. The guys you’re all mentioning here were TERRIBLE in that game. They forced one punt and got one turnover at the end of the first half and other than that didn’t stop Philly at all that game. If ever there was a desperate need to try SOMETHING, SOMEONE different, it was then.

But BB didn’t budge at ALL. Which tells me that Butler wasn’t playing defense come hell or high water. So…… why have him active at all? Why not have another player who at least could be put on the field?

It really doesn’t add up.

If BB were to ever write a memoir, the things I’d most want to hear him talk about are Spygate, Deflategate, the end of the 2015 season, and this Butler situation.

There was an ESPN piece written a while ago indicating that Butler was benched because he wasn't trying very hard in practice during SB week, and this caught the ire of Patricia. This is consistent with what Belichick said after the game that Butler didn't play for "performance reasons." Butler wasn't prepared and that's that. On top of that the guy got sick during the week. Another example of @crawhammer acting like an authority on a topic he knows nothing about.

Just doing what's best for the football team.

When did Belichick say MB not playing was due to performance reasons?

THAT is my point. Great question. If Butler wasn't going to play on defense, period, then why have him active? Why not have someone else who WAS prepared active for the game? It really doesn't make sense. At least not having all the information, to me it makes no sense. This is why I'd love to hear BB's explanation of things.

They were thin at the position so he was active as an injury replacement
The way the defense was playing that day they sure seemed injured everywhere...but whatever it is what it is
