Mayo negotiations + OC interviews next week

That is why I would prefer Nick Caley who wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon based on experience. I think if Bob comes here and do good he's gone in a year.
I updated to 5 OC's in 5 years but I understand your point. I prefer someone that already has OC experience.

If Mac is starting in 2023 then essentially that will be 5 different OC's in 5 years for him. IMO I think the next OC should stick around a while...2023 and beyond.
That's a big consideration, true. But these days continuity in coaching staff is a will o' the wisp. Long gone are the coaches like Scar who are happy to get really good at one thing and stick with it for decades.

I have a feeling Troy Brown is going to be demoted.
Getting Shawn Jefferson Bill will have another connect to D Hopkins.

Dante was the OL coach for almost 20 years. I'd be happy if the next OC sticks around for 5.

Nick Caley being a McDaniels disciple would have ran something similar to what McDaniels ran. So Mac would have been more comfortable and familiar BB didn't do him any favors with the current made up cast.

We all know BB's secrecy in any hiring. Kraft put out the press release to ease STH's minds.
All these names are being transparent but O'Brien.
You have to believe O'Brien is communicating with BB. Other teams are looking for OC's and for the Pats to not be setting up a interview with him yet if they had interest in him, would be legit nuts. Since that is the secrecy factor and he would not even have to come in for a interview with both BB and his relationship. My guess is He is the guy and all this transparency is window dressing.
I don't even hear O'Brien's name in those other teams interview process, but if you start to then things went South here.

not one person he is interviewing has experience calling offense at the NFL or even college level.
Tom Cruise What GIF

Billy O definitely does.
Interesting..

Very interesting indeed. I like the fact the Bill is bringing in former WRs to interview.

I hope some of these coaches can be poached for roles with the Patriots at some point. Pats need a whole lot of changes in their coaching staff, so bringing guys from outside the organization as coaches.

I know teams are blocked from poaching coaches unless it's a promotion. Could the Pats hire McCardell or Jefferson as passing game coordinator and have it count as a promotion for either of them? Klemm as a line coach could help too.
There are only three levels for blocking purposes: HC, OC/DC, and everything else. The Vikings can block McCardell from leaving for any position short of OC.

Jefferson is in limbo while they look for a new head coach, so I’m guessing they’d allow him to seek other positions.

Caley hasn't shown jack squat with our TE's. You will never hear the words 'Guru' and 'Caley' in the same sentence.

Nick Caley was handed two of the best (at the time) TE's in the league as TE coach, and they massively underachieved as a unit
I'm not faulting Caley there I think he's far from the problem. Jonnu is great at cashing his game checks though.

Hunter Henry is not great but also not bad: Jonnu Smith hasn't shown that he can get open unless the Defense makes a mistake or forget about him. The screen pass to Jonnu got played out real fast.

One thing to consider with these "Bill is only interviewing guys he has connections to" posts, is that when you've been coaching in the league for almost 50 years, and you've had something like 50+ assistant coaches go on to other jobs in the NFL and college, there aren't going to be many people in the league that you can't play the Six Degrees of Separation game with.

I don’t think Jonnu was used correctly.
No he flat out stinks Jonnu has move TE written all over him but you never see him running a seam route go figure.

Jefferson getting an interview makes me believe these interviews will be legitimate. He's pretty well regarded. Some interesting names though.
