Game Day Thread Official Post Game Day Thread- Pats beat the Jets

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

I think ultimately, you and I and all the others who favored Justin Fields are going to be proven correct.

He's going to be the jewel of this class.

It's a shame the Patriots braintrust did not trust it

If Bill had played Stidham on the final day of the 2020 regular season and lost, he quite possibly could've had his choice of either Fields or Mac...

Per the interweb..

What is the Salary Cap? The salary cap is an agreement between the NFL and its players placing a limit on the amount of money a team can spend on player contracts (including the player's base salary and bonuses (such as roster bonuses, workout bonuses, operation bonuses, signing bonuses, and the like).

Coaches are not included

Last I checked Bill resigned as the HC of the NYJ.. he was HIRED meaning actually being paid he quit . And the rest is history That was I'm the 90s the rules have changed since then.. not giving up, there is nothing to give up..
Your argument was that Judge and Patricia were failed coaches, and now you don't admit that Belichick was fired by Cleveland so is also by that standard a failed coach. You can't seem to understand what got those guys their shots at NYG, DET and CLE was that they were seen as being good coaches, and when put in different situations they can do well. Josh McD was a failure in DEN, but came back to NE to be our OC on a team that won three SBs. Now he's 2-5 in LV. Seems clear that you link failure as a head coach to livelong failure in a different position, but if that's the hill you want to die on, go ahead.

Whenever you want to get out of denial and realize..
You are the one not admitting BB was fired in Cleveland, and that coach's salaries do not come out of the salary cap.

Just because someone is promoted to HC and fails doesn't mean they don't know sh#t, it just means they may not be HC Material.
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT JOB AND RESPONSIBILITY.
I'm a manager, I've seen people promoted to upper management and fail miserably because they weren't suited for it...AT ALL.

Not everyone is suited to being The HEAD BOSS.

Ok please educate ok cap space.. I'll listen to you.. since you know how cap space works..
I know that coaches' salaries have zero to do with it and don't count against it. If you DON'T, then maybe you need a remedial class in how the NFL works.

Your missing the point, then why isn't Flores back? Dabol or any SUCCESSFUL former coach that left, because you'd have to pay them with the cap where it is this season do you think the patriots really want to pay anyone let's be real here.. I'm not trying to be offensive or insult your intelligence I'm just using common sense logic,

Again the decision to bring back these failed coaches is largely in part that thier salaries are paid by their formers teams as long as that are named a coordinator.. feel free to look the info up. These aren't my opinions it's reported. If that's the case then I'll hire a plumber to paint my interior, I'll hire an electrician to do my roof..

It's foolish to think a defensive coordinator can help ascend an promising young QB , they have ruined Mac.
As others have already said, coaches salaries are not part of the cap. But you are correct in saying the Pats are notoriously cheap when it comes to paying any coach not named Bill Belichick. I've read that not too many coaches want to coach in NE. It has a bad reputation for over working and under paying. The Pats have the smallest coaching staff in the entire league. That honestly doesn't make any sense. If you're a storied franchise, go out and get the best coaches out there, and pay them instead of using newbies or old rethreads.

I love the story about Bill carrying wads of cash and handing out "green balls" to his staff, as a bonus to motivate/reward them. Guys were elated when they realized they could have a steak dinner that week instead of mac & cheese again.

This isn't talked about enough, but the coaching has really been lacking the last three years: constant OL penalties, too many men on the field, terrible ST plays, etc. Its not surprising. Small inexperienced staff and too much to do. The drain and poaching of our coaches have really affected the team. Bill may be great, but he can't do it all, despite what he thinks.

I just finished re-watching the first half and I noticed a few things...

The first offensive play where Parker got hurt was a bad throw by Mac. It was behind Parker. If he didn't have to fight back for that ball, he might not have gotten hurt there. Mac threw behind the receiver a couple of times in the first half.

Cannon did not have a good first half. He is the lineman who allowed Mac's arm to get hit on the INT. He also allowed defenders to get at Mac quite a few times which forced some of Mac's throws. It wasn't all on him though - several times he just got beat by a good move by the Jets lineman. That Jets D-line is good.

Ferentz did not look good on several plays. There were several plays where he was blocking no one as rushers were coming from both sides. We need Andrews back. Jonnu Smith didn't have a good first half as a blocker either.

Both of the holding calls on Strange were "make-up calls" that came immediately after big calls against the Jets. I re-watched both plays several times and while they could be called holding, the moves he made were the same ones made by every offensive lineman on every play. I hate make-up calls like that.

The unnecessary roughness call on Mac Jones' run was the right call. Yes, he was a runner, but the Jets defender hit him in the head after he had given himself up. Having said this, I doubt they call that if he was a running back - as if any running back would give himself up.

A few plays after this unnecessary roughness call against the Jets, Jones was hit pretty hard as he ran out of bounds just short of the 1st down marker. This was also unnecessary roughness - not because it was late (Jones was in-bounds) but because the initial contact with Jones was helmet to helmet. Also, the zebras "corrected" the spot of this play 2 yards back from where it was correctly spotted. I don't get why BB didn't call them over for clarification. Jones clearly went out at the 38 & a half yard line (the play occurred at the sideline - it was obvious) but they moved it back to the 36 & a half yard line for no apparent reason. It didn't matter in the end as the Pats got a 1st down in this series.

The roughing the passer call, while borderline, was a good call. The funniest part of it was when the Jets coach Saleh called timeout just so he could yell at the refs about it. Like they were suddenly going to change their call?? Dude, grow up.

Awful win. Go Pats!

Admittedly im a little slow...

but since when is a road win against a 5-2 divisional opponent, on a 4 game win streak, with the top rated defense in the league considered an awful win?

An awful win is when multiple injuries happen and they are out for multiple games. Winning on the road against a 5-2 divisional opponent who has a good defense is not an awful win.

So you don't have confidence in BB to hire OL coach but you do in Stopwatch Bob?
I don't expect Orchids of Asia gold card holder Bob Kraft to personally hire an OL coach, but I do think Matt's doing a horrible job with the OL that is not improving. Bill Belichick's experiment with Matt as his OC is okay, but he cannot do both. "Mr." Kraft should let his HC know he thinks he needs an OL coach.

BTW, I suspect a short HC from an AFC West team that has now blown three 17 point leads might be a good fit as OC in New England after he gets fired for Personifying The Peter Principle.

I don't think so. It was the right call. It wasn't borderline. The ball was clearly out and the guy leveled him. Yes, they called it "launching" which was incorrect but the call itself was correct.

Just might happen. LVR should have kept the other coach.

I'm pretty confident we'll have a tenured OC next year. JMD, BOB, etc.

Josh will not get canned after 1 year and BOB will get a HC job in college.

Why Bill would demote his pal Patricia? There is no chance that will happen. What will happen is Bill is going to hire an OL coach and Patricia will be the OC full time.

I think this is right. But I could see them also hiring an "offensive consultant" or something like that, who will be another more experienced voice and sit up in the booth or something. Probably some recently fired coach who the Patriots can get without having to pay much.

If they finish 3-14 he will because Mark Davis is a buffoon and Josh sucks.

Fatt Matt's role here is fluid. Who said it would be a demotion? He doesn't have the title of OC. BB can have him do whatever he wants.
