Re-watching this after seeing it live and man, Ferentz is really not playing well at all. Having said that, this Colts D, like the Jets D last week, is very good and can make a backup center look worse than he really is. As bad as the Colts offense was, their defense is really good. I was frustrated with the play calling but it was good to see them beat a team they should beat.

I get that Bailey isn't all pro right now, but on that shanked punt in the first quarter, he was up against the back of the endzone and Cardona gave him a bad snap. It was low. Combine that with the wind and not a lot of time & they're lucky all they got was a shank. I don't blame him 100% for that one. You could see him adjusting his kicks for the wind. On the kick after the shank, he did this weird, low line drive that looked like a deep pass. I think he did that because of the wind.

Why is the default running play right up the middle? It just doesn't seem to be working. 1st & goal at the 2 and the entire stadium knew it was coming. The guy behind me said, "Here comes the run up the gut for a 2 yard loss". He was wrong. They lost 3. Then they did it again for no gain. Then the sack. Then they even got a false start on the FG attempt. That was a horrible set of downs. Yes, the crowd booed. I don't think they were wrong.

Word is that the Colts D were calling out Pats running plays before they happened. They're not disguising what they're doing and teams are going to tee off on that if they're smart.

My quick takeaways:

1) The defense needs to be consistent. They can't continue to play games like this one week and then be like a deer in the headlights anytime they face a somewhat mobile QB. Not sure if it's the scheme or personnel or both, but more consistency needed

2) Special teams was mostly very good, outside of some horrible punts by Jake Bailey. That dude needs to get it together fast. Brendan Schooler on the other hand has been a revelation on special teams and isn't getting enough praise imho.

3) Our passing game sucks at the minute. Mac Jones has tunnel vision, seems jittery and can't get into a rhythm because of how poor the OL is playing. It's like he wants to take deep shots and is holding the ball waiting for guys to get open, but our WR's don't really seperate. Mac needs to calm down, and take what's given rather than waiting for things to develop. I would like to see Thornton utilised more, whether on deep shots or end arounds or slants or whatever. That God given talent he has needs to be utilized in some fashion. It's tantamount to negligence to have a 4.26 WR out there mostly blocking

The defense looks legitimately better the past two weeks. Physical, assertive, downhill, not letting play be dictated to them. They still lack talent at spots but the coaching/mentality/physicality is so much better than I've seen it in some time.

BB's defenses (in the past) always had a knack for hitting you where it really hurt, taking away the easy stuff, and sort of playing from the front foot, with leverage. Hadn't seen that in awhile but I've seen a lot of those traits the past two games (post-Bears). I'm genuinely encouraged by this newfound approach. It's only two games, though; let's see if they can carry this through the rest of the season.

It didn't help the Indiots one bit yesterday, but I have noticed at times during the season that the opposing D appears to be ready for plays.

It didn't? They shut down the Pats' running game yesterday.

Show me a current oline ranking then, that shows Pats at bottom.
After yesterdays performance that’s where they belong. Whether or not Mac Jones is the long term answer at QB remains to be seen, but the OL, the coaching, and play calling he’s getting is atrocious. Belichick needs to find a real OC this coming off-season.

They’ve had all offseason. It’s a fools hope this far into the season.

They made substantial changes on offense in 2018 and won the Super Bowl.

2-1 in the division there's an outside chance that we may be division winners with better offensive play calling/QB play/OLine play
Bills are not a guarantee to win the division.

The Bills weren't good today. At all. Jets made Allen look like Josh Allen circa 2018.

trouble picking up the new system I guess?

Bourne spent the whole summer sulking because of it. Realized he was pretty much backup to Meyers and didn't like it. His play right now is a direct result of half assing it in camp.

It has often looked like the opposing D knew what was coming.

Josh just might be available.

Sort of like the playoff game against the Broncos win Von Miller was getting a great jump on every snap because Stork was tipping the snap timing….something that the old quarterback and the old coaching staff didn’t catch.

On many passing downs we aren’t seeing the true intention of the play design because the OL can’t give Mac the time to allow the play to fully develop. The key to the rest of the season is not the play calling. It is the play of the OL. Bring scar back as a consultant for the bye week, pay him whatever he wants and figure it out.

Finally, for those of you who are blaming Mac for their struggles on offense, I hope that you watched the Bucs-Rams game. Poor OL play can implode an entire offense, regardless of the quarterback or skill position players.

I really hope this is the only season we have to put up with Patricia. Mac and the offense regressing this much is an embarrassment. It’s been an issue since the beginning of training camp.

Maybe, but in SF he was this careless with the ball consistently.

Last year was the exception.

BB should be telling all components of our putrid offence i.e. Judge, Patricia (plus other coaches), Mac, the O-Line, the receivers etc to get busy in the bye week and fix the hot mess that is our offence. If they can't then the bench is that way for the players, and the door is over there for the coaches.
