Mac has no arm.
Did you see the analyst say on that pass it eventually got there.
Analysts like to say stuff like that.

It's mindless though because that was a touch pass that went right over the arms of 2 outstretched defenders and landed right in the arms of our receiver who had 2 defenders behind him.

That was the kind of touch pass that was Peyton Manning's bread-and-butter. If he throws that with any zip, one of 3 things happen: it's intercepted by the guys playing short, intercepted by the guys playing long, or it goes over our guy's head and out of bounds.

That was a beautiful throw that Mac dropped into our WRs hands.

If you want to know about Mac's arm strength, the 15 yard out to Tyquan thrown from the opposite hash is a better measure. It wasn't a rocket, but it was an NFL throw.

It is not usual for any player in any sport at any position to regress in year two. It is called the sophomore slump. In most cases it comes from higher expectations, in some it is complacency. Hopefully he has bottomed out and will start to recapture the calm and command that he dispayed as a rookie.
Is that what it is? Or is it that he doesn‘t play well in the new scheme? Idk.

Mac Jones was a 1st round pick. Bailey Zappe was a 4th round pick.

Clearly BB thinks Mac Jones has more upside just judging by draft position alone.

Do I blame him for starting the guy he thinks has more long term upside potential? Nope.

But has Mac Jones actually played better than Bailey Zappe based on his work today or any of his starts in 2022? Nope.

Mac Jones had a mediocre offensive game against the Jets. Less than 200 yards passing, 1 INT 1 TD, a pick SIX that was called back thanks to a questionable roughing the passer call, and converted 1 out of 6 red zone chances into a Touchdown.

Mac did just enough not to lose, but I don't consider him as the main reason we won. That credit clearly should go to our defense and our kicker Nick Folk.

After Belichick not only went with a six round pick QB over a first round pick QB who Belichick just gave a $100 million deal to and then trade that QB away last year and he benched Malcolm Butler in the Super Bowl, you have a hard time arguing that Belichick is going with Jones because he is a 1st round pick and Zappe is a 4th round pick.

Dmac can’t cover TEs but he’s still one of the best playing that deep middle.

I would be shocked if he felt that way. If Zappe becomes the starter again, it will be because he has completely lost faith on Jones not because he thinks Zappe is a legitimate starter.
It shouldn't be too shocking, he was already prepared to pull Mac after 3 series against the Bears. At that point in the game against the Bears Belichick had, at the very least, a suspicion that Zappe might give them a better chance right then.

Of course Zappe came out firing then regressed the second half. I don't know if one bad half for Zappe, that looked like the last 10-12 whole games Mac has played, would conclusively push him off that suspicion. And if not a suspicion Zappe is better now, maybe a suspicion Zappe could be a better QB down the line (and in that case, you're still comfortable starting Mac now).

If I was Belichick I'd be hesitant to drop my 1st round QB who showed flashes and got me to the playoffs last year too. Especially when I'm racing against the clock to beat Shula's record. 8-10 wins a year will get me there soon enough

We still don’t have a franchise QB we won on defense and the fact Wilson is terrible when pressured.
Wilson’s issues should be coachable.
Mac Jones having half of Chad Penningtons arm strength and not being able to read a defense and make a quick decision is a much bigger issue.

If Joe Flacco played we would have been killed.
Hell I think Mike White would have played better than Wilson.
Mvps of the game.

Mccourty.
Judon
Jonathan Jones
Cole Strange
Stephenson
Meyers
Folk!

Mac arguably has a better arm than Zappe. If Mac has no arm, neither does Zappe.

Why do people think that was a questionable RTP call? Looked like a good call to me. Can’t launch yourself at the QB and hit him high and think you’re not getting a flag for that.

The Bears and the league as a whole figured out Zappe because of one bad half and 4 ugly offensive series.

Yet the coaching is to blame for Mac's many bad games. It's not that the league and all of those teams figured out Mac.

Brilliant logic.

Guys, complain all you want about Mac not making plays.
Imagine if our QB threw 2 INT's while trying to throw the ball away!! That is what a QB who is not ready looks like.
He was running for his life and chucking balls away like they were grenades.

I'll say it non-stop until it changes - Mac's issues are 95% coaching failure.
Don't forget. the ONE series they went no-huddle, Mac was quick and accurate. It fizzled at the ~20yd, but they never did that again.
That's a purposeful coaching thing. They were keeping the cuffs on this offense.

It is amazing that this team will be over .500 with a win next week against a bad Colts team.

I wish Mac showed some of Zappe's pocket presence, pocket movement, and ability to find the open receiver. This game doesn't close the book on Mac. Or it shouldn't. I am happy to view this as his "knocking off the rust" game. He must show marked improvement next week and then again after the bye. I am not optimistic, but I would be thrilled to eat crow and to admit to being wrong.

Regarding the opinion that if Bill thought Zappe was better he would be playing...Bill is not immune to the weight of Mac being the 1st round pick last year. He really has to see what he has in Mac for better or worse. This is not a SB team. It's time to find out. Let Mac shake off the rust and show improvement over several games.

I wanted Zappe to keep getting all the reps and playing. But I understand why it's Mac's time for now.
Speaking of that Colts team….

Seriously have people watched Belichick over the years. Forget benching Bledoes and Butler. Remember when he cut Lawyer Milloy like a week before the season in 2003 and Milloy intercepted Brady week one? How many times have Belichick made roster decisions that made people think he was insane or stupid and he ends up being right.

Anyone who thinks that if Belichick thought that Zappe was the better QB for this offense and he wouldn't make the QB change, are kidding themselves. If Belichick thought Zappe was the best QB for this team, he would be starting. No doubt.

Last I checked he had one last season when he had 10 touchdowns.. you sure it's the qb or the a brilliant scheme to not involve a great TE...

He had 9

But Mac is much worse this year. So last year is irrelevant

I'll do the "look at me, I'm a good person" thing and say that it sucks to see injuries.

But not sad.

I think part of what will gauge Jones' performance is the film review. On the plays where he ate the ball and took a sack, or threw it away, were there open players he should've seen? Was he able to articulate the coverages he was seeing?

That's a big part of what will be important.

For all you guys whining that Mac doesn't have any arm strength, may I remind you that the toughest part of NASA missions is escaping earth's gravity. If you did the physics on what it took to get a ball to the altitude where the guy wire to the stadium cam is playing defense you'd stop whining about zip on the ball during the more terrestrial portion of its arc.

Sirrously, he did it all by himself,, at least at the qb position, and he got out with a W. I'm hoping it's a confidence builder.
