McMilan played 11 snaps but was invisible. When we don't have Barmore and or Dugger on the field, it's a totally different defense and not for the better. Just unacceptable.
True indeed, however to defend that offense we still had plenty on D to do so.. let's be honest at this point McCourty is out there for his intelligence not his physical ability anymore.. 3rd down was the problem..

From what I've been reading this morning the Bears almost copied the Ravens offensive gameplan with running Fields like they ran Jackson. We weren't able to stop Lamar and we weren't able to stop Fields. Just really bad. I'm almost never at a loss for words, but I don't know what to say here, just really, really bad and they need to improve quickly.

We also played from ahead most of those games with the running game going.

Running game wasn't going last night and we were playing from behind. And zappe was shut down in the second half and threw 2 picks and had 4 tipped passes. He didn't exactly cover himself in glory.

Meyers isn't too happy either.

Sounds like Meyers may have been talking more about the crowd booing Mac and chanting for Zappe.

Rewatched the 3 Mac series, and it was just a combo of everything terrible. Penalties, < 2s to throw a lot of the time, barely missing TT twice for big gains, DHarris drop, Runs and screens for no gain, and obviously the rotten cherry on the top...

Burn the silver pants. Bad luck.

Look..the entire league knows the Bears SUCK..their QB is a joke. I'll bet they don't score more than 14 next week. What they did tonight SHOWS that our team has a fatal coaching structure flaw. Poor tackling, poor coverage, poor play calling, and just a sense that this staff does not know what the hell they want to do. Anybody think they'll suddenly put it all together in NJ next weekend? Fat chance

I think they win the Jets next week,, it could even be a sound win, but I agree with your statements

It’s hard to believe with all of our safeties we couldn’t find a way to contain him.
Very. The seemed like they were in No Mans Land all night. Out of position constantly.

Lamar is just a beast, and his offensive line and skill position players are far better than what we saw last night, here's what I'll say, injuries, wrong angles, busted coverages on 3rd down conversions.. Mobile qbs always gave us issues even when we're winning.. the safety play really failed us as well. Defense will show some pride next week.. especially front 7..

Mac's INT was one I would regularly laugh at when another QB did the same thing.

But, guys, I thought that all the speed at linebacker was going to make them better against the run this year...

Whoops. Turns out you need talent outside of raw speed. They still have no answers for mobile QB's which is what ultimately killed them last year. I know people are salivating over this years draft and it was good but they did nothing to beef up their run D (specifically against running QB's) and that was on display last night.

"Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said the plan heading in was to platoon the quarterbacks, and Jones wasn't benched due to performance. Belichick added that Jones would have returned to the game if the score didn't get out of hand, and he doesn't plan on having a platoon system moving forward."

That's some hot BS right there. BB pulled Jones because he was terrible. That was not part of the plan. In BB we trust, right?

To me, this is one of the biggest takeaways from the game. We seem to be a different defense going against mobile qb's as compared to ones that stand in the pocket. Not having Barmore was huge, Dugger missing most of the game was huge, but don't understand why all the issues with those mobile qb's.

Things fell apart after that Meyers fumble. They lost all momentum and the Bears steamrolled our defense. Until the end of the game Zappe didn't have much fault on the result but in the end was bad. Not sure how they handle this situation now.

I was in favor of starting Zappe yesterday. Now maybe things are a little messed up too much, maybe Mac can handle better the pressure of the growing pains given his background in Alabama, Saban, etc

I also want to add and I know some of you have said I am picking on him, but Myles Bryant has to get off the field. He did have that gift interception, but that was Judon who tipped the ball right to him. I could have caught that one. Bad things seem to happen, and teams always seem to target him on 3rd down, let's go with the youth movement and add Marcus, Jack, Jonathan Jones and Mills. I wouldn't mind seeing more Wade either when he's healthy over Bryant.

Look, it was a @#$%y game, but there were lots of reports before hand about Bill hinting at playing both QBs. It ended up working out spectacularly bad, but that's not to say it wasn't the plan.

You know who’s been bad recently & played a role in yesterday’s loss? Jake Bailey. Might want to consider signing someone else if that continues.

If they sh!t their pants against one of the worst teams in the league at home, I don’t have much hope that they can beat NY on the road….
Divisional games are always more intense. I don't see us losing to the Jets whom just lost their stud RB and a starting OL. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose though with how all these upsets keep happening around the league

BB lied. He does this sometimes to protect the player from media BS.

Everyone knows BB put Zappe in b/c Mac sucked.

If Mac went 6-6 for 65yds and a TD he would have continued to play.

If Zappe sucked when he went in, Mac would have started the 2nd 1/2.

If the score was 24-24 in the 4th Zappe would have stayed in there if he was playing well. BB saying Mac didn't go back in b/c the game was out of hand is also a lie.

BB is letting this play out. This is an open competition. He sees no need to tell the media this which is fine.

That is the other thing with Zappe. When you live by the play action, you die by the play action. If the Pats cannot run the ball effectively, they cannot sell the play action and that has been a large part how Patricia has been getting separation for the receivers with Zappe to allow him to make plays. You take away the play action and Zappe doesn't look nearly as good.

I am not sure why he doesn't use play action with Jones. Probably because he trusts him to get the ball to the receiver in tighter coverage. Unfortunately, with Jones' current demeanor, I don't know if they can trust him. Against the Jets, they will need to use more play action with Jones.

But despite what the Zappe crowd thinks, the team is still behind Jones.
1. Not sure why you continue to ignore this, but Zappe had zero experience with UC PA plays before joining the Patriots. So, the PA was definitely not used to help him since he had no prior experience with it. The fact he's been able to perform the PA at the NFL level is actually a compliment to his fast learning ability.
2. Mac had several unsuccessful PA plays last night.
3. Both QBs had deep vertical plays, Zappe was more successful, by far.

Stats with same # of attempts.
