TB12 has said for 10 years he wants to play until 45. Then he suddenly retired at 44? I thought it was odd at the time; maybe he always intended to only play until 44, but that way people wouldn't give him a retirement tour.

I think its pretty clear Gisele basically forced him to retire, or he did it to try and save the marriage, and then when retiring didn't help he said screw it and went back to football.

I personally think he thought he'd be OK with retirement but within a few days/weeks of doing it he realized he was not, decided if he un-retired she'd be mad but eventually come around and be OK with it too, but totally miscalculated.

I personally think he wouldn't say "screw it" when it concerns his relationship with his wife and his kids, it's not like him to accept defeat on any front.

If we accept the bolded as true, then it is perfectly plausible that his wife ordering him to retire, and him meekly giving in to her commands, is the level of defeat he was not willing to accept.

It just seems to be an irresistible meme that she demanded that he retire.

It's clear from her statements that she wanted him to be more "present" for the family, but that comes far short of making a demand.

The statement we have is:

You're all over the place here. First you seem critical of the notion that she demanded he retire.... then you paint a picture where him un-retiring is the main cause of the separation/divorce. I mean, which is it?

Obviously, they are both adults. Neither can demand anything of the other. What they can do, however, is decide they are not willing to stay in the relationship if they have to make certain concessions.

Re-reading those comments by Gisele, it seems kind of odd she was so willing to publicly air those feelings. It gives an "after-the-fact" vibe that the marriage is finito.
