In that OT, you have to play to win.

In GB territory, TD ends the game, on 4th down you can either go short for the first or go for the whole enchilada.

I like Zappe but the way Belichick played it conservative, Rodgers & Crosby aren't going to choke.
Eh, you could argue rodgers and already did choke. They gave us the ball needing a fg to win.
If we had forced another 3 and out, which we had done plenty during the game, and gotten another short field and kicked a field goal that time, I wouldn’t have thought it was crazy.

I do wish we played it differently too, but I get. Once you’re in second and 5, if you gain ANY yards on the run you’re in a spot where you don’t need to pass on third down and might be able to run on fourth if needed, too. I could have seen running for 3 yards on 2nd down and 3 yards on third down, ball game.
If we threw an incompletion on second and had to pass again on third, I could see plenty of “why get too cute and throw twice with a third string rookie when the run had worked all day?”

The next man up @ the scat back or 3rd down RB have been next to invisible since Montgomery went down.

Don't think Monty would've helped there either... The dude sucks now.

So the evidence shows they are definitely better with Meyers on Third Downs.
Evidence also shows NE has scored 11 more points/game with Meyers out
Week 1+2......(7+14)/2=10.5
Week 3+4.......(26+24-7)/2=21.5

I think it could have been a safe way to play for the win if you gain enough you go for it. Hopefully you just gain the 5 or more and get the first. And you can always still punt on 4th like we did anyway. It's hard to argue with taking a shot passing and obviously the case can be made the down to pass was 2nd down. I can only go with what I wanted in the moment and given it's a 3rd stringer I don't blame the coaches for just playing it pretty standard with run run pass. Clearly Zappe was limited and we better hope another week brings a whole lot more plays into the game for him.
I wanted run run run...and maybe run.

But you have to be creative., Not just a standard turn and hand-off.

Either step back to the side as they did very effectively, or a draw up the gut.

I feel right because the conventional way they did (do) it predictably failed.

3rd and 5 draw was what I was yelling at my TV.

Listen: I just saw a photo of the field and had a PTSD flashback to 1992. IF the Patriots lose AGAIN wearing those red monstrosities, I will hold YOU personally responsible. So muster whatever good juju you can between now and Sunday because you're on notice.
Victor (what an ironically inappropriate name!) Kiam wanted to win. He really did.

He had Flutie right in his hands. Got rid of Eason. Check. Got rid of Berry. Check.

Doug sat around doing nothing for six months before he finally gave up and went to Canada to play for peanuts.

Maybe if Kiam spent less time conniving with Billy to retain control. But you're right, what a sh*tshow. Rust, Olson, Millen.

Red facemasks are pretty cool, though.

Dude, just take a glance at the twenty year stretches of utter futility almost all the other teams belched up, and our hard times are put in perspective. We even had some decent wins sprinkled in that 90-92 trudge, not bad considering we had no quarterback.

Yeah, it was the kid's FIRST GAME.

He didn't even dress before Sunday!!!

I know it isn’t apples to apples, but the Pats are really not missing JC Jackson all that much this season.

Sometimes, you pay a lot less for something just as good or even better.

So Billy Sullivan wasn't the greatest owner. He still put an entertaining, often exciting and very good team out there, and the Patriots were an established part of the community for over thirty years.

I'm actually amazed today that Paul Gaston didn't destroy the Celtics' logo and uniforms.

True Apf
Agree 100%
And this time the Patriots organization put 100% effort on pat patriot return
They have done all at best
Let s admit it

Lions are going to try to run it down our throat. They're #1 at 5.9 ypc. They have three 1st round OLmen in Ts Decker & Sewell and C Ragnow. Even w/o Swift, they rushed for 145 against Seattle. Pats have allowed 199 & 188 rushing yds the last 2 games.

We're going to try the same, so it'll be a ground & pound type of game. O/U at 45.5, and I have no idea how to pick the score on this one.

Running = long drives = game ends faster. I don't expect the Lions will score as much as they have been this season, regardless of who wins.
