DeVonta Smith's got skinnier legs, and he's surviving. I'm still not optimistic about him long term, though, but I'm glad I'm being proven wrong so far. I guess because BoneyT's on the Pats, I have my rose colored glasses on. That being said, I really hope they don't put him on the line again to block like the Giants preseason game. No sense putting that square peg in the round hole - just asking for trouble. Keep him out of there so he can occupy a CB and a Safety.Yep; BoneyT's legs make Shawn Crable's look like Schwarzenegger"s from the Twins movie in comparison.
Didn't realize that recovering from a shoulder injury precluded one from working on thighs & calves...
My guess is Thornton will be activated by Saturday. They wouldn’t have designated him for return if he wasn’t physically ready.Yea, this must be a move to free up a spot on the 53 but for who?
so, you want Mac to come in if Zappe needs to come out? Not me? I want Mac to be inactive. My guess is Thornton will be activated by Saturday. They wouldn’t have designated him for return if he wasn’t physically ready.
The Pats are roughly $2.6 million under the salary cap after IRing Cajuste and signing Cannon to the 53. That’s not much with 3/4s of the season still to go. Swapping Thornton for Hoyer on the IR will not cost anything against the cap.
When Thornton returns, he’ll be the 6th WR on the 53. And, Kendrick Bourne would likely be 6th in the pecking order. When Meyers and Thornton return, I think the Pats will revisit the idea of trading Bourne to clear cap space and a roster spot for Collins or, maybe, Ty Montgomery coming off the IR.
I was thinking Gilbert.

You're correct, but IRing Hoyer seems a little drastic since it puts him out 4 weeks, so I thought they may just add Gilbert to the 53 as permanent backup until Mac returns. Unless it's to make room for Thornton like KS says. You are probably right, but I think either one can be called up 3 times? Maybe both will be call ups this week?

It seems to me like they probably think Mac will be good to start by next week and could take the field as a game manager this week if Zappe got hurt for some reason. Then they go the next 3 games after this week with Mac + Zappe, probably just keep that setup til the bye week and then evaluate how Zappe's doing at that point, and if they feel he's handled the primary backup role fine, leave Hoyer on IR.You're correct, but IRing Hoyer seems a little drastic since it puts him out 4 weeks, so I thought they may just add Gilbert to the 53 as permanent backup until Mac returns. The only reason I might agree is Patricia will drop Bailey back to get killed even more than he already will.We better not fall behind by more than a score: two scores = insurmountable.

I'm not going to repeat what I say a million times...about play selection...not calling a pass...
I would have preferred a 3rd and five run.I would have liked to have seen a naked bootleg.
I looked earlier this week, and this is his 6th concussion (at the very least). There was one where he had terrible memory issues shortly afterwards. I was really rooting for him, but he should really just hang it up. Terrible luck his whole career with injuries.I think someone, maybe @captain stone?, said it did not look like a viscous hit (and it was on grass). I agree, so Hoyer might be one of the susceptible guys to a concussion, or he might be older and is not interested in CTE for the rest of his life, so in either case the Pats IRed him to be careful. It is not like Hoyer is a savior or anything.
Let's hope it is for Thornton since he does not have a practice squad elevation possibility - that would be nice. Then Collins and Gilbert can be elevated as practice squad guys.
I'm still wondering how Wilkerson's doing. I feel like he was going to break out this year.

The best OT we’ve ever had and only behind Hannah as the best ever Patriot offensive lineman. Mankins is 3rd on my list.Boy I miss Big Bruce he made those lean years palatable he was a very good player not many DE's got by him.
