Patriots Training Camp- Monday August 8th

Yip, was just joking around about all the Jones posts...

Oh gotcha, I thought you were getting annoyed that no one was posting about today's TC practice lol...

Yep, LB is a concern and has been for a very long time. I remember when Scarnecchia retired he voiced the opinion that the LB corp was in sore need of attention. Nothing has changed in the last few years. I understand Belichick was not a fan of those first rounders like Devin lloyd but Reiss's early analysis of McGrone, Uche, and Perkins leave me, well, mcgroaning.
This really shouldn't be a surprise the LB's are underwhelming at this point. Bentley as the starting MLB is pedestrian. It will be nice the day Bill get's a disruptive MLB who can fly coast to coast. I think Jennings will win the job on the outside.

The LB's have been one of the pleasant surprises of camp so far. The O-Line has been underwhelming.

So quick question will Preseason Game Two be the tune up game??

I'm kind of happy we play the Bills later in the year by then we'll know if we match up or not: BB please get Trey Flowers on board.

Time for the offense to take it up a notch.

Except if they cut Hoyer there's a 3 million cap hit that never comes back.

Butler and Bethel cap hit fit in better.
The cap hit exists regardless. As a vested vet he could be on the PS and there’s no limit to what they pay him. That’s his salary, even on the PS.

And no McMillan. Hasn’t he been getting some first team reps along with Bentley and Mack Wilson?

Other guys I perceive as having exceeded expectations: Thornton, Godchaux, LaBryan Ray
Not meeting expectations: Mac, Onwenu, Uche
Where do you get that Uche isn't meeting expectations?
Where do you get that Onwenu isn't meeting expectations?

If Hoyer is cut, the CAP HIT jumps by 1.24M. That's because of the guaranteed money he has.
If Hoyer is signed to the PS, he gets the PS pay. The league took out the ability to pay them different contracts than the set amounts. If Hoyer were promoted, he'd get a game check based on the pro-rated amount of the vet minimum he's eligible for. And that is additional money against the Cap.

Need more LB's in that First Group very disappointed in Ronnie Perkins based on Draft status and hype.
You're disappointed because Perkins is learning to play the game out of a 2 point stance and learning defense he's never been in?

Perkins was getting kudos earlier in camp. Just because the Pundits aren't hyping him doesn't mean he's playing badly.
Worry about Perkins if he's being sent out only with the 3rd stringers in the 3rd pre-season game.

That last cb on the roster is going to be interesting. Is it Wade, J. Williams, Butler, Bethel, Bryant?
The Pats may carry 6 CBs not including Bethel. I just don't see Bryant making it. He was outclassed badly against McKenzie and Davis last season. Contrary to PFF, Bryant was responsible for 2 TDs.

This year there is a shadow roster where three veterans are allowed to move back and forth from the practice squad for the first few weeks without going through waivers or being counted on the 53.

I think Butler and Bethel are candidates.

Where did you see that it was only for 3 veterans and only for the first few weeks?

I know that the PS is still at 16. I know that they are allowed to have 3 veterans of more than 3 years experience. They rest have to meet the 3 year rule.

If injuries don't make the decision for us, then I expect the 6th CB would be Butler if he's good enough for a spot, otherwise it would just be 5. The only real point in having 6+ CB is if you really, really don't want to part with all of them, because they won't all get on the field.

As for Bryant, I think the selection of Marcus Jones might have been the end for him. Maybe BB sees a role for each of them (Jones gets returns, Bryant gets to be backup slot CB and FS), but it seems more likely that Jones just handles both of those roles in one roster spot.

Yeah, I think we're on the same page here DaBruinz, don't want to see him get any meaningful snaps after last year's performance.
