In my opinion what you are talking about and what goes on in the Tompa Gronka thread are still apples and oranges. I’ve spoken to a couple of Colts fan friends and more than a few Packers fans and they can’t recall anything similar with Manning and Favre, respectively.

Are the Patriots a legit Super Bowl contender this year? Unlikely, but I’m not the type to give up on that dream in mid May. Even if you are a Pats fan and feel strongly that they don’t have what it takes to contend this year, an unbiased fan would have to acknowledge that their roster is much more talented than it was two years ago, including a very successful 2021 draft, they have an exciting young quarterback who offers hope and they still have the GOAT coach.

If, despite all of this, you are can’t get it all excited to watch and route for the Patriots this year but are psyched for Tampa‘s season, you are not a Patriots fan. Period, end of story. Using a “terrible“ 2022 draft, when you haven’t watched the vast majority the players play single college game as an excuse to not be excited for the Pats season, is just an obvious cover.

So I say to the Tompa Gronka thread devotees: It’s time to come out of your football fan closets, fellas. We will respect you more if you admit who you are and where your allegiances really lie.

PS. I wholeheartedly second what others have been saying about you, @Ian. Thank you for what you do for this site. Dealing with a bunch of adult toddlers has to be frustrating (not talking about me, of course. I meant the other guys). ;)
Honest question. If you don’t like the Tampa forum why go in there? You’re quoting posts from it but you hate that it’s here. Makes no sense.

It's the people who don't like Brady who are the most obsessed with him. A small contingent of us Patriots fans follow him and wish him well, but there is a small(er) contingent of haters who are completely obsessed with him and mention him Every. Single. Chance. They. Get.

That’s what I don’t get. I love Brady. Favourite athlete ever. I try to watch as much Tampa as I can (tape the games if they play at same time as Pats). I don’t frequent the Tampa thread but if others do who cares. Ian put it in a different section, easy to stay out of if you don’t want to post there.

If those were the PatsFans monkeys they'd be flinging their poo.

LOL COJ, I have a few on ignore, and came here on the phone not signed in. One of the guys I ignore follows me around, despite months of me ignoring him, taking shots at my posts

So yeah, it's asymmetric... but who cares

RYGURA follows me around & dislikes everything I post. He disliked 15 of my posts in 18 minutes today.

Here is the kicker…. @Rygura has been a member of Patsfans since 2007, but he has Zero posts in 15 years.

It is probably a members secondary ID.

I think I know who you’re referring to.

I’ve had a 2-3 triggered posters that followed me and would be the first to respond to anything I posted. It was really bizarre. Thankfully, they aren’t here anymore. Also, I’ve observed there’s either rivalries between posters or poster A has to respond and try to humiliate poster B on anything poster B posts.

I've always found some comfort in the sure and certain knowledge the hater is far more disturbed by their hate than the hated.

I sort of fall on the same thing. If you don't like it, don't go in there.

I don’t. I think I have posted in the thread maybe twice since it was first created and have ventured into the thread fewer than 10 times. Those two quotes took me all of two minutes to find and I went there specifically to give examples in my post in this thread.

If all of the regulars there would just stay there and participate in the communal Brady fellatio, that would be fine. The problem is that several people who frequent that thread occasionally slum it if the main forum and spew consistent negativity about the Patriots, under the guise that they actually emotionally invested in whether the patriots succeed. .

Observation:

Anyone who invested in a cross section of crypto when Matt Damon told us to is down about 65% right now.

Fortune does not always favor the brave I guess.

That’s the real problem. I don’t go there, and I have no problem with it being there as long as it stays there. But the reason Ian created it was to give a place for Tommy ball washers to commune, so when they don’t use it and instead use the main forum to spew crap about BB and RK and the Patriots team they’re abusing Ian by not using what he gave them and they’re abusing the rest of us who don’t want to hear it.

Being emotionally invested in a team does not preclude one from calling them out when they f up royally.

If the only things one ever posts about the team are negative it raises questions about just how they are emotionally invested.

Well, if you want threads to stop being derailed (a major issue, IMO), institute temp bans on the parties after a warning. Then give them a longer ban if they do it again in the same thread after the ban and then perhaps a permanent ban after that.

The problem comes when Team Brady folks come over to the main board to troll. People like crawhammer and SB1. That’s when I go to the Brady forum and troll them back. Then they complain and I get in trouble.

@Ian

If you put someone on ignore, I assume you can’t see their posts. Can they see your posts? I would never use it unless it covered both

Is there a list of sites we can use?
I think we should be able to post from a variety of sites because sports writers views are not the same.

Do we ban ESPN because Brady did not fall off the cliff? Weren’t they also the home of Craig Mortenson and the deflate gate story?

What about Peter King?
He didn’t like our draft
Is he ok?

Sportswriters post opinions & they each have their own opinion. Who decides what is legit ?

Didn’t we learn anything from Bidens appointing truth czar Scary Poppins ?
I wasn't a believer in using the ignore option at first but I use it now. I like it.

How does calling Pats fans "Tommy ball washers" help the situation? Ian actually created the separate forum because of the friction between both sides. Unlike you I visit both forums and trolling has been a two way street but has eased up quite a bit. Ian knew what he was doing.

Are we still getting banned from GDTs for being angry at our team or is that off the table now

This is not a take-sides political post...it's about something else.

I drove up to see my sister in NH yesterday and passed a house that had hateful Biden signs all over the front lawn and another with F*** Joe Biden (spelled out - in a neighborhood full of kids), Let's Go Brandon, and Trump 2024 giant flags.

I did my typical sigh, but the thoughts stayed with me. How sick in the head, how full of irrational rage, does a person have to be to spend all kinds of money and energy to put a permanent primal scream up in their neighborhood, and about something (someone) that really hasn't made much of a difference in their day-to-day life in any way, shape, or form? I know people like this - several ex-friends, because it just wasn't worth the energy to listen to them anymore. They go to work all day, listen to hate-radio back and forth, then come home and rush to put on Fox or OANN to hear some out-of-context or blown out of proportion OUTRAGE perpetrated by an evil libtard (in some town no one ever heard of) or some illegal brown person or some stupid teacher or whatever.

They go to feed their addiction. I've said it repeatedly here, whenever Felger and Mazz are brought up: anger lights up the brain same as porn, and it's addictive. And that drug is the formula of hateful, as opposed to informative, talk radio and cable news (the side of the argument is irrelevant). The fighting is the point. The fighting gets the clicks. It's the unconscious desire feeding that fix for anger. And it's destructive to the addict, their family/friends/social circle...their Thanksgiving gatherings.

The same thing is going on here, and with all sincere respect (seriously), Ian, you're not going to stop it with Block or Ignore functions. The formula works for a while, then burns itself out, or settles into an echo chamber of misery, because the people seeking informative discussion just can't deal with it any longer.

In any case, I wish you all well. It was a fun few years here. I don't watch cable news at all anymore. I don't listen to F&M or any of the controversy mongers at all anymore (and hint: the vast majority of fans don't listen to them, either), nor do I engage in the irrational and hateful social media political wars - in the limited time I spend on social media at all. I'm happier. I'm more informed now than I was when everything had to have a side to hate. It's kind of ridiculous that this analogy is apropos to a fan board for an unbelievably successful sports franchise.

And it's a damned shame, because this site wasn't like this at all until the last couple of years, and is worse this year than ever. The curmudgeons of yesteryear, for all their screaming schtick, were informed and made good arguments or were hilarious (Joker, Captain - I love those guys), but first and foremost THEY WERE FANS, actual fans, who would complain about something specific in threads about that one issue, but otherwise support the team. Now the place is full of either trolls from other team's boards, fans broken beyond repair by Brady leaving, or just people who need the fight fix.

Ah well...

Quoth Eminem,

"F*** it 50, smash him, mash on him, let him have it"

Oh I kid because I love. Anyway... see you, if you're going. Just wanted to use the setup before it's too late.

Great Post imo

Ah well...

Way to derail the thread. “This is not a political post,” but let me spend two paragraphs bashing conservatives…
