Any thoughts on the tuck rule admission?

Let break down the "fumble into the end zone" thing for you.

Do you agree that the end zone is a special area of the field different from the rest of the field of play? Are there other rules that are different in the end zone that are different than elsewhere on the field?

A player who runs 99.99 yards and fumbles into this special area of the field carries with it a special infraction. You have to get the ball over the demarcation line into this special area in your possession. If you don't, since this is a special area of the field and not the regular field of play, a different, more serious penalty is applied.

Maybe you don't like the penalty. That's fine but the team committing the infraction should be rewarded for committing it.

Tell me where there is another rule where a team gets the ball deep in the other teams' side of the field and then loses the ball because it happens in the end zone rather than just outside the end zone. Name just one play where the result is similar. Where if it happens on the one inch line, the offense keeps the ball and if it crosses the plane that they lose the ball. Seriously, I cannot think of one other play just like that.

And in many cases, it is just a case of dumb luck if the ball bounces out of bounds in the end zone or outside the end zone.

If you don't like the rule, don't fumble the ball. There's a reason Belichick coaches NE players not to stretch for the end zone.

That doesn't matter. On a safety you get two points and there's a free kick. Name one other play where the result is similar?

If the rule is you have to stand on your head and spit nickles if you fumble out of the end zone, it is what it is. Take better care of the ball next time.

A safety is you getting tackled or sacked or losing the ball out the end zone of your own end zone, not the opposing end zone. That make sense. It isn't losing the football after driving down to the opposite end of the field and losing the football out of bounds in the opposing end zone.

And this "If you don't like the rules, take care of the football" crap doesn't fly on a message board. People here discuss and debate and complain about the rules all the time.

Belichick doesn't teach people to stretch in the end zone because he supports the rules. In fact, he is very vocal about a lot of rules he disagrees with. He teach his players to best play within the rules that are the books whether he agrees with them or not.

So does BB support this rule or not?

The call was correct at the time, because those were the rules. Brady thought it was a fumble, but it wasn't according to how the rules were written.

Brady just felt he got lucky, and he was, because if this had happened before the new rule came out, they lose that game. I'm not bothered about it, and I'm sure Tom doesn't lose any sleep over it but he probably gets that question a lot so he decided to comment on it.

As much as I loved #12 when he was with the Pats, he now seems to have morphed into another media w..re. The need for attention, any attention will do, outweighs common sense. This seems to be a trend among the rich and famous lately.

Young Brady was definitely more likeable than old Brady. I blame Gisele. :)

The ball probably should be either where the player fumbles the ball rather than where it goes out of bounds or back to the previous spot. I still don't get the logic of that rule that if you fumble ball out of bounds through the end zone that you should lose possession.
I've never had a problem with that rule but I have seen it discussed before, probably here on PatsFans.

I like the idea that if you fumble the ball out of the end zone then you deserve to be punished for that fumble. Giving the team another chance doesn't work for me. I look at it the same way as I do the OT changes. If you can't stop the other team, or you stop yourself, then you can't complain.

Surprised TB12 hasn't let anything slip about Spygate or tried to distance himself from all of that.

I think his relationship with Bill is mended now at least since the Bucs game last season so I'm sure he won't throw Bill under the bus or anything like that. At least not on purpose. But I still thought the more relaxed TB12 would have more to say about it by now. We'll see.

By the 90's, the game was more antiseptic, and the league watered down.

I'm not belittling the Bulls and Lakers, simply pointing out that if you didn't screw up (like Ainge did letting Posey go in '08) doing a threepeat is much easier today.

Nobody repeated once after we did in '68-69, until Len Bias dropped dead in his dorm the night we drafted him.

Especially when you see the ferocity of the competition, what the Celtics did winning eight straight world championships is the most impressive team accomplishment in sports history.

And that's not hyperbole.
I got the news about Bias from a police detail that I knew and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in a vehicle and as I passed him by on the morning after the draft he yelled "Len Bias is dead" as I passed him. I was in shock.

I feel blessed to have been able to witness Russell's career live. I understand that many current fans have never seen him play so they don't realize the impact that he had on games, but when a group of folks who never saw him play decided to rank the top NBA players of the last 75 years, they put him 6th. What a joke.

Russell won not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7, not 8, not 9, not 10 but 11 titles in only 13 years, and as you said 8 straight. That was on a team that never won squat until he got there and didn't win again until a few years after he left.

It's funny that you mentioned Danny Ainge here and Gerald Henderson in another post. Those were the only two players that I ever saw cry after they found out they'd been traded by the Celtics. It meant a lot to them.

I have real problem with it because it literally can be the difference of the bounce of the ball. If a player fumbles and the side of the ball hits the ground and it could bounce out of bounds in the field of play. The ball fumbles in the same spot and the nose of the ball hits the ground and it goes out of bounds through the end zone. Same fumble, different bounce. One gets the ball back. The other loses the ball and the other team gets it on the 20. I have a problem with that.
