A Random Thought About Jones

I'm cautiously optimistic but concerned with the so called sophomore slump. Though it's possible Mac and the team improve in their 2nd year together, this is basically the same team. Opponents now have a better feel for what Mac can do with this offense. We may have seen a prelude of this in the last 5 games of the season.

Given how other teams are loading up on offense, it would take a remarkable improvement by both Mac and the offensive coaching staff (??) to put together game plans to win in a shoot out. I have my doubts.
I’d expect in Macs second year the playbook will be expanded. Opponents might have a good feel for what Mac did last year but I expect him to expand what he did last year.

The game plan will be to avoid shoot outs. This team is going to run the ball a lot, win time of possession and attempt to dictate the flow of the game like they did last year. Just because afc teams added offensive players doesn’t mean the Patriots are helpless to just stand by and watch teams score with their only recourse to be scoring as quickly as possible.

The defense finished 4th last year, and really only Jackson and a bunch of slow linebackers. I’d be surprised if the defense falls out of the top 10 this year.

So the patriots will combat good offenses with all 3 phases and many fans on the league will be confused as to why their more talented team isn’t beating the Patriots.

The one major weakness was the sideline throws. Yes, he threw into coverage sometimes and the deep ball wasn't on target sometimes but those things happen to all QBs and he will get better with experience. Focus on the sideline throws.

Correct, the teams in the last part of the season said they were going to force him to throw outside the #s and they had success w/ that strategy.
