NFL Free Agency 2022 edition

Thought this was an interesting Mike Reiss piece this morning. Summary:
Culture first: Projecting the New England Patriots' plans in free agency
- Thinks Pats will resign Slater, McCourty, and Hoyer (with McDaniels departure being a reason)
- Doesn’t think Hightower or any of the LBs will be back
- Thinks everyone’s underestimating possibility of Folk leaving, comparing to Vinatieri after 2005
- Expects Pats to make effort to bring Trey Flowers back
- Otherwise expects more typical free agency for Pats, dumpster diving through released players and also through non-tendered RFA’s — with salaries for those being much higher than in the past, expecting many more non-tenders across the NFL than in the past.

I thought Slater was retiring. Is it 100% that hes playing next year? Hoyer will probably have a job for life on this team thats not surprising. If Hightower is willing to come back on a team friendly deal I could see the team bringing him back.

@Miguel, why not include Wise in your calculations?

If they cut or trade him with a post June one designation, they’d approximately $3.75 million (after factoring in the dead cap number). They clearly like him but I doubt that they consider him to be off-limits for release or trade, if they can upgrade at DE.

Right in the article, Reiss says he has sources who say Slater has decided to play next year.

Nooooooooooooooo

They like the Rook with Leg. If his consistency is improving than Nordin could be the guy.

I believe OTC is missing that Wise’s salary is guaranteed. They’d have to post-June 1 trade him, which requires actually waiting until then (as opposed to the post-June 1 release designation).

This would have been a better year to splurge in FA. I really hope we can Trade Agholor to have $9 more Mill to play with. We have to get a Real WR on this Team better than Bourne.
You don't buy high, and this year would be buying high.

I guess I’m confused. We’re talking about cap hits though, right? Everything I’ve read since he signed the deal was that on the last year his hit is 15M. I just went and looked it up, and saw numbers ranging from 14.9 to-16M.
You really can't compare year 2 of a 2-year deal that pushed $5 into this year to save last year with an AAV of $15m.

You also try not to over pay, yet we did last year.
I don't share your opinion, and am betting the deals you'll see this year show that most of the people the Pats brought in were not overpaid.

You are really going all-out for the Captain Stone Miserable Puke Award, offseason edition, huh.

I think McCourty saves us money if we sign him before FA because he has void years.

How did the "Pats win SB" ticket you bought last offseason work out for you? You could've made a fortune had your delusions paid off.

Pocket change for me, my brotha. Thanks for keeping close tabs on me, though.

Mac Jones and some drafts picks for Watson shouldn't be seriously considered?? Watson is only 26, he's had a tremendous start to his career and he should be a top 5 (probably top 3) quarterback annually. He just had an entire season off so physically he's entirely fresh. What's his suspension going to be?... about 4-6 games? He'd be worth the wait. The division is probably Buffalo's next season anyway but Watson has you back in serious contention for 2023 and beyond.

Culture first? What a joke. How'd the culture work in 2020? Or the end of last season. Talent wins football games not culture. To that point, bringing back Slater and McCourty will not improve your chances of winning football games next season. Put your money elsewhere.

Bringing back Hoyer because McDaniels left?? That makes no sense.

And comparing Folk to Vinatieri in any sense is dumb.

And you and a couple of others here would say the same thing if they went and got Robinson or someone else this year.

Guys here were over-the-moon for Smith and Henry - don't trust me, go back and read the welcome threads for them. it takes time, particularly with a rookie QB. Watch the contracts this year: guys with Agholor's stats are going to get 15+
