Probably because Kraft gives him a budget for coaching staff ($25M) and after he takes his $20M cut, there isn't enough to pay experienced coaches so he hires his kids, inexperienced assistants, and friends of BB.

The puzzling thing is that McD was purportedly getting paid way more than other OCs so once he left, there should've been money left on the table. Unless he took some of that for himself under the "I'm calling the O plays" myself argument. We don't need no stinking OC.

Looks like I was being too harsh on Bill, he only makes $18M/yr.

Apparently he hands out cash tips to his assistant coaches that he calls "green balls" (not to be confused with eight balls) when they do good. Not sure this doesn't reinforce they get paid squat, but at least when they do get some extra green balls, it's got Bill's name on them instead of Krafts. Wonder how many green balls Little Steven got. Is this considered taxable income or gifts. What a weird story.

My NFC hate goes back to the beginning of the AFL and how the existing NFL treated the AFL. They avoided them for many years and only agreed to play the SB because they had the Packers dynasty available to clean things up. It worked until the Jets and KC shut the NFLers up.
Since interleague play began the AFC has dominated head-to-head everywhere except in the SB, where the AFC could have taken the lead if Brady stayed with the Pats and not moved to the NFC.

Maybe it has to do with the financial structure of the team. It's possible that Kraft gives Bill a total figure to work with. Coaching is way overrated anyway.
