If this is the final game for Tom Brady the GOAT….

I hope he keeps playing and keeps adding to his records. One thing I've never cared about, that sportswriters always seem obsessed with, is how someone "goes out." They talk about it all the time. This or that guy should retire now. Go out on top. What a great way to go out. What a sad way for it to end. Blah blah blah. Who cares? The end is the end and not really that important to a career.

If Brady doesn't feel it anymore, then no problem. But if he does--he freaking led the league in yards and TDs this year! Keep it going I say.
the way Manning "went out" still angers me

Brees retired with a year left...teams can create an extra year on the books for quarterbacks in order to spread out cap hits, and we don't know what type of discussions he's had with the team. But if a team wants to create cap space for roster flexibility, the best way to do it is to keep an extra year on the books every season in order to kick the can down the road; this is one way the Saints were able to avoid severe consequences for like five years, continually extending Brees, knowing at some point he'd retire despite having an extra year left.

Brees was Incapable of playing the position anymore.

He's not going to retire and owe 15 million to TB.

He's definitely coming back in 2022.

But it's very likely (95%) his last year.

He would've played past 45. He got those two extra rings.

He will be inducted into the HOF in 2028.

He will be 51 at that time.

Can someone please answer what would happen to his 2022 salary if he retired. Would he just not get paid? Owe everything back?

I don't think he's done.

What's incredible is he's never had a losing season in his 20 years as starter.

He's not going to retire and owe 15 million to TB.

Damn, that one piece of information was all you needed!

If he wants to retire, he'll retire, and you won't see him in front of the 7-11 asking for change in a coffee cup to pay for it. (Update - or starting a go fund me.) He probably won't want to retire... it is hard to envision him voluntarily saying no to whatever is symbolic of training to him. That yoga trollop on the screen says "Namaste" Tom Brady does not say "Namaste on the couch." Not after a year when he is still leading the league in anything, and it's not like he was in decline.

Every big game's going to be emotional for him at this point, not that it wasn't before... but as with anything, who freakin knows.

I may be repeating myself. Forgive me.

But Tom Brady doesn't strike me as the type of guy who would retire when he still commited contractually to an organization.

I think he feels he owes TB his services because it's the "Right thing to do".

Now, would I blame Brady if he retired now? No.

And yes it's pretty clear Tom Brady will never be in need of money. Most athletes aren't in need of cash.

Tom Brady will also have broadcasting opportunities and modeling chances upon his retirement too.

Who mentioned the cap? The issue mentioned was TB12 branding. Brees was loved by national media. TB not. Brees could not pay well at QB anymore. brady played at elite level. TB12 post football brand image important to Brady.

OT here.

How many QB's could've done what Mahomes did with 13 seconds last night?

Brady
Rodgers
Manning

All I got.

Btw, I'm not trying to pump up Mahomes.

I'm saying it's really hard to make big plays with 13 seconds left.

It's a legit question.

It looked easy, but it’s a lot harder than it looks. The precise timing, the calm presence of Mahomes to not freak out. This is the same thing people have said makes Brady “a system QB” CuZ oF CoAcHiNg for years. Brady has straight up said that defenses aren’t very smart. It’s well known he loves the underneath routes in the final minutes of the game because defenders are so concerned about the big play.

That said, probably should take the Mahomes stuff to the other threads. There are quite a few. This is a Brady thread.

I am pretty certain Brady is back next year at age 45 and then it is 50/50 if he retires after that. Much depends on what he and Licht discuss in terms of team building this offseason. I would imagine Brady's #1 priority is Godwin getting signed which I expect Licht to do and them probably another one year deal for Gronk with incentives. They also need to look at getting another TE as Howard is done and Brate regressed this year. Other than that, the O is in really good shape. I assume JPP and Suh are gone but I suppose either could sign a cheap one year deal but Tampa needs to draft another Tyron and get younger there. They also probably need to look at a top CB in FA as well. All and all the team has cap to spend and is in really good position to make another run next season.

I agree with you, but I think you mean "Tampa Bay" in that abbreviation. Best not to pull that thread :D

He has stated that he would never want a Farewell Tour year. Too much distraction and truthfully not a Brady trait to have a big to do before every game all about him. I think this is it. As far as one more year left on his contract. Please. He signed a 2 year deal and has played it through. The extra year was to give the team cap relief for the current year.

OT is fine from my perspective. It is a tricky question. About 10 million plus quarterbacks or potential quarterbacks could have made the first throw to Hill if the defenses played the play in a similar fashion. Bills really just screwed up with such light coverage there. The second throw to Kelce was still a relatively easy throw by D1 college/NFL standards since Buffalo messed up their defense again but a few quarterbacks would have choked on it or maybe made the throw in a manner in which Kelce gets a little less YAC.

Now to be fair to Mahomes, those relatively easy throws may have only been available in part because of the fear Mahomes could throw a 65 yard pass to end the game.... That is kind of a team thing...the Bills respecting Mahomes, KC's offensive line and skill position players.

Now very few NFL quarterbacks could have had as good of a game as Mahomes and Josh Allen did. Mahomes had 3 or 4 really impressive throws in that game and he managed it great in terms of passing/running and taking what defense gave him. The Bills dealt with it okay at times but in general the Chiefs speed was a problem for them.

But if we are being honest, the two most amazing plays of the night were not by Josh Allen or Mahomes or even the Bills receiver who scored 4 TDs against mostly single teams. Allen had a bunch of really good plays and probably the 3rd most impressive play of the game when he scrambled and then threw the ball in the corner of the end zone into a tight window.

The two most impressive plays were by Tyreek Hill. He has world class speed and it shows. He is more than just a straight ahead speed demon that doesn't have football instincts.

Mahomes had a great pass on Hill's crossing route so he deserves credit for that but I doubt more than a handful of NFL receivers could have done what he did on that play in the open field. If they could it wouldn't been with such relative ease. Even the rookie Bengals receiver couldn't have made that play assuming he made the initial catch and defender fell down trying to tackle him. Pretty amazing.

And the punt return was even more impressive since he broke a few tackles and really only weird circumstances prevented him from taking that all the way for a TD.

Brady has talked in the past about wanting to honor his contract by playing that 3rd year. I think he has thought of next year as a real year on his contract and not a fake one. Based upon his public comments earlier in the year, fulfilling the final year of his contract is something he would like to do but based upon his recent comments not a showstopper if he feels now is the right time to retire. Even if he plays next year, he doesn't have to announce it as his last year or make a big deal out of it.

Guy just lost a game AFTER bringing his team back from 27-3 because his defensive coordinator is a blitz happy schmuck. Pretty sure he feels pretty down about football right now. I would not take anything he said since then at absolute face value. Nothing he said goes after what he usually say. It just seemed that it was more "real" this time.

I mean he really didn't say anything. It's all just conjecture. It's not like it's the first time Tom gets jettisoned from the playoffs. Based on this, he would've retired after the Eagles SB where he balled out at a record pace while the D sh**t the bed.

As far as his comments earlier in the year, alot happened late in the year that soured Brady. He also could have said that to keep from answering questions all year about is this your last year. Now for the first time in his career he is contemplating it with his family it would be hollow to say this is not his last year. How he answered questions after the game if he does not retire this year then next year is a Farewell Tour. Giselle has been vocal that he needs to spend more time with the family. Nobody knows but Tom but it is fun to speculate.

If Brady doesn't retire now then next season is a retirement tour- distraction, I don't think he wants that.

They can just extend him into 2023 to make it look like he has one more year to avoid that.

Well couple of things. The Bills played 100 percent horrible on that drive. Mahomes was not making tight window throws. His two throws. One was an open screen type pass where hill ran a long way the other Kelce ran out and nobody covered him. Another thing is they had all 3 timeouts. So with those things, it was not some magical thing as they made it. Bills really messed that up and I am not sure why.

With Big Ben retiring, there's no way Brady retires. That would mean they both get inducted to HOF at same time. There's no way Brady wants to share that moment w/ Ben. No way. Thanks Ben.
